Chapter 14 - Abusive Father

Elias did not take long to recognize the man that had grabbed Klaus's shabby form β€” deciding to see what the Mikaelson patriarch would do to his son. Elias watched as Klaus struggled in his father's grip but restrained himself from helping his friend.

By this time, the sky had become pitch black the only sounds heard were of Klaus's screaming. Elias watched and followed as his father dragged him deeper into the woods and away from the village. Elias followed Mikael far behind him, making sure to cover any sound the leaves would make as he moved by moving at the same time as Mikael not that it mattered much. Klaus's yelling seemed to drown out everything else.

Mikeal, who had been silent the whole time while grabbing Klaus and dragging him in the woods, finally spoke to his least favorite son. Mikael let loose a snarl as Klaus desperately struggled against his father's grip yelled at him, "Will you stop it already child your womanly yelping will scare off the prey that you will be hunting."

Elias, who had exceptional hearing, was surprised to hear what Mikael had said. He had always known that Klaus was someone with a weak heart unable to hurt a fly, but could all of this really about him not being able to kill an animal. Elias decided that maybe he had overthought the whole thing. This entire struggle was just the simple act of a father passing on his experience to a son who didn't want to learn. Elias deciding he had no stake in this was about to leave, but something made him stop. Call it instinct, but Elias knew there was something more to this.

Klaus, instead of being calmed by Mikael's words, felt acute terror instead. Klaus always knew that his father was a little unhinged, but after Mikael found out he had made friends with Erik's son, he began to fume. Mikael had heard the story of how Erik's son was able to fight one of the were-beasts. He was even able to drive it away while his father was distracted. Mikael was, of course, jealous of Erik for having such a strong son while he had such a weakling. Mikael, not wanting to fall behind Erik, decided that it was time for Klaus to grow up.

Klaus, after a moment of depressing silence, began to beg his father, "please don't make me kill another human. Father, I don't want to become a murderer."

Elias was a little depressed at this point. Why did he have to be, right? Why couldn't it have been some innocuous activity like hunting rabbits? Elias decided that if he had to, he would help Klaus, but only subtly, it was a good thing Elias had learned magic today, or he could only create political trouble for his father. Mikael was the largest landowner in the village, after all.

Mikael decided to ignore his son's pleas and carried him to a torch-lit area, and then Mikael finally let him go. Mikael looked at his incompetent son, and with ice-cold blue eyes his massive form cast a shadow over Klaus, who at this point was still recovering from the rough trip there. Mikael's blonde shortly cut hair shone brightly by the fire lit scene.

Mikael's voice turned cold, reflecting the disdain he had toward his weakest son, "Klaus, this is your last chance to prove your self to me. I have collared a Beast Child around your age in these woods. You will kill the beast boy, or I will kill you." Mikael, who was wearing his hunting coat and sword decided to unsheath his sword to scare the boy.

Klaus was startled by the threat but quickly ran off into the wood before his father decided to kill him.

Elias, who had been watching this entire display, couldn't help but feel that Mikael was one of the cruelest Norsemen, and that was saying something. Norsemen were severe and strict with their children even beating them when they fell out of line, but they would never threaten their lives like this maniac. Elias just shook his head and saw Klaus's form running off into the wood and decided to find him before he managed to impale himself on a branch.

Elias's shadowy form moved fast enough for Mikael to hear his movement but not see his form. Elias quickly outpaced Klaus, who was not able to see at all where he was going. Elias asked, "Why are you running like that?"

Klaus was startled at first but then became worried. Klaus who had just found out his father wanted to murder him was happy to see a friendly face but knew he couldn't let his father kill one of his only friends outside of his siblings.

"What are you doing here, Elias? nevermind, it's not that important you have to leave now before my father tries to kill both of us."

Elias looked at Klaus and felt touched that his friend was considerate enough not to try an rope him into his problems, but Elias could handle himself.

"Klaus, don't worry about it. I saw Mikael grab you and followed you here. I am here to help. Don't worry; it's not free. You owe me a few favors, and I expect a life long friend of you in return."

Klaus, who was startled by his friend's directness, put aside his worry, happy not wander in the dark all alone, and said, "Deal."

little did they know how long their lifetimes would be.
