Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Seeing a Ghost in Broad Daylight

The situation was urgent, and after he finished speaking, the young man anxiously looked towards Ling Mo. It was Ling Mo who had answered when he called out, so he vaguely felt that among these few individuals, it should be this unremarkable-looking young man who called the shots.

"Where is your camp?" Ling Mo frowned and asked.

The young man probably didn't expect Ling Mo to be considering these issues under such dangerous circumstances. Usually, when people encounter a survivor team, they stick to them like glue! He proactively invited Ling Mo and the others partly out of guilt, and partly because he was somewhat surprised by their combat abilities.

Although there were not many zombies on the way towards the side door, there were invariably a few that popped out to block the path. The young man originally thought these people might either be unable to resist and would turn back to escape or would pay a certain price.

But to their surprise, this seemingly fragile group—two girls, two teenagers, and one young man—had incredibly strong combat abilities! These scattered zombies didn't affect them in the slightest! Such a group was obviously not a burden, but very much worth recruiting!

"Ginkgo District! How about it, do you want to come back with us to the camp?" The young man asked somewhat eagerly.

Ginkgo District wasn't far from here, just needed to detour through two streets to get there. But it looked like this group had just left their camp, why were they planning to return so soon? In such matters, Ling Mo did not have the intention to hide or hedge. He asked straight away.

The young man hurriedly said, "You've misunderstood, we left two days ago, gathering supplies nearby, and today we planned to take the risk to search for things here, but it turned out this place really is a Dragon Pond and Tiger Cave. Now that we've hit a snag, we plan to return to camp immediately to avoid further casualties."

I see... Ling Mo nodded, then looked back at Ye Lian and Xia Na. Xia Na was emotionally stable at the moment and appeared no different from Ye Lian. However, for safety's sake, Ling Mo subtly controlled Ye Lian to take a duckbill hat from the backpack and put it on Xia Na.

This little movement did not catch the young man's attention because, at the same time, Ling Mo was talking with him.

"Alright, then we'll follow you back to camp."

"That's great! Let's go." The young man showed a hint of happiness. For the camp, the addition of newcomers generally meant two things. One, another mouth to feed, and two, an extra hand to help. In the eyes of the young man, Ling Mo's party was clearly the latter; such people were welcome anywhere.

The team had no objections to Ling Mo and the others joining temporarily, most of them even nodded at them, welcoming them. Observing these people up close, Ling Mo got a more direct understanding of the team. There were both men and women in this group, all looking not too old; even the oldest didn't seem to be over thirty, and the youngest seemed to be around fifteen or sixteen.

Although they had just gone through a life-and-death struggle, their expressions were not frightened, but their foreheads were all covered in sweat, looking very tired. The only one with a heavy expression was a girl around twenty, with red rims around her eyes, but no tears had fallen.

While proceeding with this group, Ling Mo heard the young man whispering a few consoling words to the girl and learned that her brother had just delayed the zombies by jumping from the building; he took one step too late and was pulled back through the window in front of her, probably nothing but a skeleton now.

After giving up the plan to scavenge for supplies, the group detoured to a narrow alley from the main street. Originally, Ling Mo was a bit puzzled, but seeing that the young man leading the way was very familiar with the route, he gradually eased his concerns.

The zombies in the alley were not many; the alley sat between two districts with walls on both sides, and apart from a few discarded vehicles, there were basically no obstacles. After about five or six minutes through this alley, the group turned onto a street that wasn't so wide, and more zombies started to appear on the road.

The group fought with an orderly method, and with Ling Mo occasionally helping to relieve their pressure, they didn't take long to pass through the street. Soon, they arrived at Ginkgo District. Unlike the upscale residential area opposite the No. 3 Middle School, Ginkgo District was also a high-end property, but it had just been completed and there were not many residents, which also meant the environment was relatively clean with only a few zombies within.

At the entrance, a small number of zombies could still be seen, which was entirely due to its geographic location, near a bustling commercial street...

The camp mentioned by the young man was an apartment block with elevators within the district. The apartment's gate was well constructed and provided a certain degree of defense. Though it would be useless against a large horde of zombies, it could still hold off a few. Moreover, there were people guarding behind the gate. Seeing the young man bringing back a few strangers, they just gave Ling Mo and the others an extra look with a scrutinizing gaze and did not say much more.

"All of us here take turns on duty, and we have lookouts on the upper floors. If something goes wrong, we'll organize to evacuate or hide," the young man said, seeing that Ling Mo seemed somewhat curious, and offered the information.

They went up to the second floor via the safety stairs and entered a residential unit. To Ling Mo's surprise, no one lived there; instead, a woman with glasses helped them take off their backpacks. She then took out a notebook, checked the items the group had brought back, and made detailed records.

"Please wait a moment," the young man told Ling Mo, then went over to take off his backpack. Ling Mo stood at the door and watched for a while, realizing that the group had brought back quite a lot. Besides various types of food, there were also a mess of medicines, clothes, and even some women's products.

After the woman finished registering, she let the young man sign it, and then signaled them to leave. The supplies were then sorted by the woman into categories and moved into the inner room. Ling Mo watched from a distance and noticed that the bedroom had been converted into a warehouse, the storage visible through the occasionally opening door was substantial.

With a smile, the young man came out: "Uhh... I didn't have the chance to tell you earlier, but I actually don't have the authority to let you join. We have to ask our Boss first. But you can rest assured, our Boss is a really good person. I'll take you to meet him now!"

Ling Mo nodded indifferently, his gaze suddenly sharp as he tentatively asked, "What was that just now?"

"Oh, it was just registration. Our people are divided into three teams, and each team takes turns going out to scavenge for supplies. When we return, we have to register what we've found and the team leader has to sign off on it. By the way, my name is Li Yu, I'm the leader of the second team," Li Yu's eyes gleamed with a touch of pride.

After the others left the warehouse, they returned to another residence, while Li Yu took Ling Mo and the others up to the third floor.

Ling Mo was quite interested in this so-called Boss. After all, to establish a survivor camp in such a short period of time, the Boss's methods must be quite extraordinary.

Before meeting the Boss, Ling Mo had many speculations in his mind, but he never expected that when the door on the third floor was opened, what appeared in front of him was a girl who seemed somewhat frail.

But that wasn't the point... What really made Ling Mo's eyes widen and left him dumbfounded was that he actually recognized the girl!

That little girl from the neighbor's house, Wang Lin, whom he thought had died in Wang's Sword Shop!

When Wang Lin looked up at him, Ling Mo almost blurted out subconsciously, "I'll be damned..."
