Chapter 1 - The meeting

I was abandoned at birth in front of a church and was taken in by a small group of nuns. When I turned ten I had already grown to detest their ways of living, always afraid of the unknown, which had included me.

Though I did love each and every one of them, I disliked how they wouldn't allow me to go beyond the hills. They claimed that there was a devil that would eat any child that traveled into his territory there. I wasn't one to follow the rules and was very fond of disobeying them. So as soon as nightfall came, I traveled downstairs to the first floor, and carefully tipped across the floorboard making sure not to make them creek, for if I did I would be caught and would surely be scolded.

When I reached the back door I opened it and just stood there gazing up at the full moon. I stood still for the longest time just basking in the moonlight, then dashed across the field into the woods and over the hill. Everything was so different at night, there were plants that seemed to be small moons, and they were glowing everywhere. I squatted down and looked at the glowing flowers with amazement in my eyes. I hadn't been there for a long time when I heard something move off to the left. Curiosity got the best of me and I crawled to its direction, the bush moved again and out came a snow-white bunny. I yelped in surprise meant but soon turned to amazement. I gingerly picked up the small bunny and began to pet it.

"What are you doing here?" a strange voice called out.

Stunned I turned around abruptly. Standing before me was a man cloaked in black clothing, even his hair was black; the only thing that wasn't was his piercing red eyes'. They seemed to be gazing right through me. Yet it didn't scare me though it seemed as though it should have.

"I'm petting this little bunny. Do you want to pet it too?" I smiled and tilted my head a little while staring at him.

He just continued to stare at me for a while the whole time pondering what to do next. While he was staring I went back to petting the bunny, humming "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"

He finally broke the silence with a few words, "Haven't you've been told not to venture off into the woods because there is a devil that lives here?"

"Yes I have but I'm not scared of him because I have yet to meet him, I was always told to never judge someone whom you don't know. Yet those silly nuns say such mean things about him, they don't even know his name!"

He went quiet which caused me to glance in his direction. He was standing there in shock.

"What is wrong? Are you ok?" questions just seemed to pour out of my mouth.

He answered each one with patients. I had been outside for quite some time that even the sun was rising. I stood up abruptly and began to walk away but not before shouting out, "I'll be back tomorrow, so let's meet up again. Okay?"

He waved goodbye at me saying one word, "Yes."
