Prologue
"Thank you for your work, director"
Hearing that I glanced towards the voice, only to find a member of the crew.
"Yeah, you too"
I answered back calmly and moved my steps towards my car.
Everyone around me was busy packing up the set and whenever they walk past me, they will thank me for my work.
It was a kind of life I had imagined when I was in the film academy.
Living a life as a director, directing actors and getting respect and appreciation from the public.
It was a dream come true for me but, was I happy?
No, I wasn't. It was not this dream I had imagined, the life I was living was fairly different.
Although I was a director, I was just a small time director. I only made advertisements and TV promos.
The actors I direct are some small time actors who think that they are big stars since they got an advertisement.
They are hard to deal with and if sometimes, I got an actor who had acted in movies, he will act as a king and for him, I was irrelevant.
Getting appreaction from people, I will surely get it if they know me. Being a small time director, hardly anyone know me except my remaining relatives.
Sometimes, people don't even remember the ads they have seen on TV, how can they remember the people that made it.
My dream has been stuck here in the advertisement industry.
At first when I had gotten my first advertisement shoot, I was very excited thinking that I will quickly leap into the film industry and make my own films after this but reality was different.
One way or another, I am stuck in the advertisement industry for years.
It wasn't like I was a struggling director, I was fairly respected in the advertisement industry.
I have tons of advertisement waiting for me to shoot but I wasn't satisfied with just shooting advertisements.
'I wanted to shoot films, real movies'
It wasn't like I had never done anything to leap into the film industry but the film industry, no the whole entertainment scene is based on connections and powers.
Although talent is also a essential thing but if your talent is not top-notch, you can't overcome connections and powers.
I have standed outside the investors office for hours just to meet them, just to show them my script.
But everytime, I was rejected. They didn't even saw my script and rejected me.
For them, I was one of the countless small time directors looking for a chance to make it big.
For succeeding in entertainment industry, you need luck, timing and opportunities.
No anyone can succeed in the entertainment industry, those who can succeed are only the cream of the crop or people with connections.
As I having those thoughts, I reached my car. My car wasn't a expensive brand. It was a local car which I bought with my savings.
Although being a advertisement director isn't something I liked but it pays well.
I mean, several people came to the entertainment industry to become stars, not because they wanted to be famous, most of them are after money.
Entertainment industry is a huge money bank, If you do everything right, then you can easily become one of the most richest person.
'That's why actors are so rich'
My thoughts suddenly went on to the actors when I started driving my car.
Actors are the celebrities who earns the most. They earn even more than those idol groups.
If you are a popular actor, you can easily earn money if you just make a cameo in a drama or a movie.
Although being an actor wasn't easy, it is a job that is worth all the troubles.
One of the most important thing for an actor is to choose a good script.
If you cannot produce good and interesting scripts, you can't survive in the industry.
Choosing scripts is a job that is very hard, many actors scripts are chosen by their managers.
An actor receives dozens of scripts per day. For a struggling director, if an popular actor wants to do their script, it can become a selling point in front of the investors.
'I also sent my scripts to some actors'
Although there wasn't a reply, I did send some scripts to some popular actors and actresses.
There wasn't a reply and I assumed that there also wouldn't be a one.
Many times actors would choose the scripts the manager choose for them.
Sometimes, the actors would not like the script, it is the work of a manager to convince them.
That's why being a manager is a hard job. A manager will at least think to quit their job 4-5 times a day
I only know these things because I have several friends in the industry.
Some were managers, some are reporters and I even know some team leaders in a entertainment company.
In entertainment industry, contacts and connections are very important. You don't know which will help you when.
Ring!* Ring!*
As I was thinking about those things, my phone started to ring.
As I glanced towards my phone, it was an unknown number.
I accepted the call thinking that it was about another advertising project.
-Hello, are you Ren, the director who sent your script to SM investors.
"Yeah, I, I am"
It was a call from a investment company I have sent my script to. It was the first time that I got a call from a investment company.
I was a little nervous, and a bit excited.
-Well, considering that we would like to discuss some things.
"Discuss?"
Although I sounded confused on the phone, I was literally jumping with joy inside my heart. There's no way I didn't know what they are implying.
-Actually, Our boss really liked your script and he wanted to invest in it.
"Really! I can come anytime, I am free"
-That's great! Can director Ren came to the investment company before 4 P.M.
"Yeah, I will be there...."
*Screeeeeeeeeeeech—!!*
*Craaaaaaaaaaash!!*
Before I can even begin to properly end the call, I was stuck by a massive force, a truck. My car was smashed and my phone was probably destroyed. I was probably blown away.
I wonder what the person on the other end of the phone would think listening to the crashing sound!
I wanted to think about that but I wasn't in a situation to think like that. I was probably dying. This was the end of me.
At that moment, something flashed by me, it was my emotions, which were mostly regrets.
I watched my life past be me. My parents who died in a accident when I was just 1 year old, my uncle and aunt who raised me, my cousins who abused me and my career of 20 years, my dreams and all regrets.
'Is this the end? Then what about my dream? Will I die like this! No, I wanted to at least direct my own movie!!
* * *
*Sirens wailing*
The ambulance was dashing through the road, towards the hospital.
"Blood pressure going down!"
"Use the defibrillator! Quickly!!"
The inside of the ambulance was frantic. The lowering frequency of heartbeats and the efforts of the emergency doctors were tear-jerking. However, whether he knew it or not, Ren's breath was getting dimmer.
'If… If I could just… start again...I…I will surely rule the….entertainment….industry.
Those were the last thoughts of Ren, a small time director who will later become the entertainment king.
