Chereads / She's mine / Chapter 8 - First Night

Chapter 8 - First Night

When Sun stepped out of her bathroom, she was shocked to see, a different set of clothes on her bed. They looked like pyjamas, and they were really cute. She put them on, and pulled her hair into a loose ponytail. She slid her feet into a pair of flip flops and left the room. She spotted the stairs and proceeded towards it, as she got closer she saw Ming sitting on the chair, he had a pair of glasses and seemed to be really busy, so she tiptoed down the stairs, trying not to make any noise. When she was downstairs, she sat on one of the chairs and begun looking around. The design was really simple, almost too simple. There weren't any pictures or paintings anywhere, she didn't see any other person in the house either. In the hospital she had a flower vase with flowers in her room, but nothing of such existed here. It was just dull. "Bored?" her thoughts were interrupted at the word. "Mhm" she nodded. "Music?" Ming asked again in the same fashion, he didn't even look at her. "No" she answered. "TV?" He asked, still not looking up, "No" she answered again, but this time she continued, "I'd hate to distract you" and this made him look up at her. "Ok. Hungry?" he asked and she shook her head. Unable to figure out what she wanted he looked back at his book. "I have questions" and this made him look up sharply at her, "No, not about my past. You'd tell me if I needed to know. I trust you." The last sentence softened his heart, but also stung it. "Ask" he said.

"Do you live here alone?" Ming nodded his head. "So, who was he? the other guy" she asked. "He is Zeda. We are good friends" he answered leaving out details. "So you put the clothes on the bed for me" and Ming nodded. With that she had run out of questions she could ask him. Then it hit her, "Don't you have any other family?" Ming looked up, his family, wasn't much of a family. His mother left while they were little kids, his father was never around and his brother, he was so different from his brother it made them seem like strangers. "I have other people I'm related to by blood and nothing else" he answered coldly. "Oh, I'm sorry" she apologised feeling bad for asking. "Don't apologise, you're not at fault" he said. "At the hospital, you said you were my step-brother, are you really?" she asked narrowing her eyes, "No" his response was quick, "I can't tell you what relationship I have with you" he continued and looked away. She nodded and understood that it must be tied to really painful memories. "How much pain did I endure in the past?" she asked visibly sad and the image of her face stung his heart. He wanted to hug her and stroke her hair and tell her it wasn't painful. But it was very painful, too much pain for one person. "Too much. And I'm so sorry about that" He said as he stood up. "I'd show you to your room" he said holding the book and closing it. She nodded and stood to follow him. He led her up the stairs and to the door next to his, he opened the door and she went into the room. There was a huge white teddy bear on her bed. She turned to look at him, "I thought you'd be lonely here on your first night, so I got you that. If you don't like it just put it under the bed or something" he said. "No, I love it", she smiled at him and hugged him briefly before going to the bed. "Goodnight" he said as he turned around and shut the door behind him and went to his room.

Ming tossed and turned in his bed. He couldn't sleep. He just kept thinking about Sun. She wasn't stupid, she'd realise sooner or later. But his major concern wasn't her. What will happen if the main cause of her pain found out she was still alive. He'd stop at nothing to kill her. Ming was thinking about his brother. He could never understand why he didn't just divorce her. He would have been rid of her. He's brother was something he could never understand. After turning in his bed for close to an hour, he stood up and decided to get a glass of milk from the kitchen. As he walked out his door and into the hall way, he felt an urge to go to Sun's room. He shook his head, hoping to rid his mind of the thought. He didn't want to disturb her sleep.

He walked to the stairs and down to the kitchen. As he arrived, he ran into the butler, this greatly startled both of them. He narrowed his eyes at him, "you?!" The butler was so scared he dropped his gaze to the floor and bowed several times apologising over and over. "What are you doing here?" Ming asked. "Sir, I just received some groceries, so I thought I'd put them away" the young butler answered still bowing and facing the floor, his voice was shaky and Ming knew why. "You may leave when you're done. Just don't allow such an accident occur with the young miss" Ming said leaving and walking to the refrigerator to get his glass of milk which he carried with him in the direction of his room. The butler seemed to have disappeared into thin air, and once again there was no sign of life in the whole house. When he reached the stairs, he saw Sun at the top of the stairs. He stopped in his tracks, but she didn't move either. He continued up the stairs and as he approached her, he noticed her eyes were open and tears where flowing from her eyes. He became more cautious and took every step with more care than the last. He was just a few steps from her, when she moved like she had been pushed and began falling, he ran to her and caught her. He shook her violently and she wailed. She was crying like a child, he embraced her tightly and she clung to him. She cried a lot and he just held her. He couldn't understand why she was crying so much or why she fell. Did she trip on something? He was so carried away thinking about why she fell, that he didn't realise he had dropped his glass of milk. He just stayed there patting her head and thinking over everything that just happened. And it triggered a memory, the day she fell. Everything had happened the exact same way, he was at the bottom of the stairs and she was at the top crying. He didn't want to approach her, and he wished he did. He didn't think Tai would push her. He winced at the thought. He was such a fool and Tai was an animal, of course was capable of doing just that.

After some time Sun calmed down and he lifted her from the ground and took her to her room, gently placing her on the bed. He sat across from her and she wiped her tears with her palm and tried to smile.
