"Take this as an example," said Livi, "a person's pet just died and he asked the Life palace for help. Why do you think that person would ask his pet to be resurrected? Of course, it's because that pet holds great position in that person's heart and he did not want it dead."
"Even after one hour, or exceeding the Life magic's limit, the person could offer a living sacrifice of the same value in his heart. In a way, it means he had to choose between two things that were both and equally important to him. Wealth and glory do not matter here anymore. We're taking about life and death here. For example, his offspring or his treasured pet. Or perhaps his own life or his pet if it's that important to him.
"Still,..." Pausing for a moment, the playful smile in Livi's sleek face vanished. "...offering a sacrifice in exchange for a dead person's life is considered a taboo. Going past the limits of Life magic is considered going against Clover and someone would eventually pay the price for it. If I'm not mistaken, anyone in the involved party could be accursed and would suffer for the rest of their life."
He looked at them all and smiled. "That's why, as the Life palace's prince, one must bear with the responsibilities and know the value of life. I'm not allowed to kill or bring life back as I desire just because I could do it. So, I'm only showing it to all you once, and you better pay attention."
"Umm...Livi, how are you going to show it? You're not going to kill anyone, are you?" Rex stared at him foolishly and ask.
"Of course not!" Livi retorted feeling wronged.
And just when he was pondering about it, Sugar dashed into the library carrying a dead canary carefully in her hands. She happened to overheard their conversation earlier so she decided to show the poor thing to him.
"Would this work?"
Livi stared at her for a moment before looking at the savagely killed canary in her hands. "how long has it been since it died?"
"Well, I just went out to fetch food for it and when I came back, that bastard Kin already killed it! But I suppose it's only been thirty minutes or so."
Seeing how the canary didn't start to disappear yet, his doubts vanished. Kin, who was seating nearby was startled and attempted to stop them but was ignored.
"No! Don't!"
Livi reached out to caressed the poor creature's head, taking a deep breath, he started to mutter enchantments silently. However, before anyone could understand what was going on, blinding light flashed across the whole tower. The radiance leaked out even through the windows making all who passes by look at the tower's direction with the intense surge of magical energy and light they felt.
After quite some time, the light faded and slowly, everyone opened their eyes. But before anyone could get back to their senses, the students were startled by the sudden chirp they heard.
The canary that was previously dead, was now full of energy and was singing happily. Even the feathers that was plucked out was restored. The canary was back to how it used to be without a single scratch.
They were all astonished. Just as he said it, he brought back what was previously dead. The Sacred magic is indeed something not to be underestimated. After witnessing the power of the upper and lower realm of three of the Sacred empires, they without a doubt, knew that it is only a matter of time before they all rise again.
Reviving just a little bird exhausted him so much. Livi's vision started to blur and he could barely open his eyes. He could feel himself falling but something stopped him from falling in the ground. Opening his eyes in shock, he saw Kishi sitting beside him.
The latter didn't say much and just let Livi lean on him. Because of that, Livi can't help but smile.
"Thank you."
He might have known it before, but Kishi is indeed a kind and caring fellow despite his aloofness. But perhaps, it is because of his sense of responsibility towards his sister that he developed such kind of personality.
From the depths of his heart, Livi felt warmth surging in. For as long as he remembers, he was always alone. He was always locked up in that dark room watching the two of them for a very long time. It's not like he hated it, but he did not like it either. Back in the past, he was contented just by looking and never did he imagine that here he is right now, experiencing the warmth he never felt before in the coldness he got used to.
"I'll take a short nap..." He said as the darkness gradually enveloped him as he slept.
Kishi, who was looking at him from his periphery, sighed. "Stupid."
Most of them were stunned it took a while before they could react. Especially Sugar, who was dancing around overjoyed as the canary sung a tune for her.
"Don't even think about it, Kin!" Aspen snapped when he saw anger flashed in Kin's golden eyes. "They spent a lot of effort to resurrect that bird, so as an elder, don't even dare lay your hands on it."
"But, but...."
"No buts! he sighed. "Just let it pass, it shouldn't be that bad to do so, right?"
Kin grumbled in disagreement but didn't argue any further. "Fine! Whatever!"
"Cheer up! At least their having fun." Said Asa with a chuckle.
"Shut up! Traitor!" Kin rebuked.
At the center of the lounge, Celes can't help but gape at them. She was with Myth, Miha and Kira. The three of them were having their little fun as they played and braided Kira's long and silky white hair.
They were not sitting too far with either Kin's or Rex's group so they heard and seen everything that occurred. Celes was so startled she froze when they suddenly discussed about the magic that was rumored to be able to control life itself and she was even more shocked to witness that it was true. It is just hard to imagine that such thing could be true.
"I-impossible..."
"You say that because you haven't been exposed to so much magic yet." Miha spoke "Look at lovely Kira here, she wasn't even surprised when Sugar's canary was brought back to life despite witnessing it for the first time. Isn't that so, Kira?"
Curious and deeply surprised, Celes looked at her with bewildered expression and asked. "Magic is capable of that? Is there even something that is impossible for magic?!"
Myth giggled at her question. "There is magic that could reign all magic, there is one that could manipulate all elements at will, in other words, able to move the seas, the wind, the earth, the thunder, and everything! Like just what you've seen, there is also one that could control life! If you say that those kinds of magic are fearsome then, what about a magic that could do all those things without paying any price?!"
"Wait! There's that kind of magic?!"
"Oh, come on Myth, you're over exaggerating it!" says Miha.
"Exaggerating it? No, I am not! It's true, there's a magic that could grant all wishes no matter what scale, weather it's bringing back life of granting unlimited wealth!"
"Granting wishes?" Celes tilted her head in confusion.
"Didn't you know? The dandelion kingdom's magic allows the blessed to grant wishes."
"Myth!" Miha shouted in agitation. "The magic of granting wishes is much worse than Enchanted, Life or any other. It's because its cost is worse than the worst! That's why people always say to be careful of what you wish for because a mistake may cause you to regret that forever. And also, don't say things you're not supposed to so carelessly."
"Sorry...But I'm not lying though."
"Myth..."
"I guess it's pretty normal though." Said Kira. "Sometimes, magic can be so dangerous it becomes forbidden. Livi might get in big trouble later when Haya finds out that he used life magic to resurrect a canary. Airi and the others will receive scolding later too."
"Don't worry Kira, we're not involve so were perfectly fine. No need to bother about those stupid boys." Giggling, Myth snuggled her.
"But...Livi and Airi..."
"Like I said, no need to bother. It's not like something bad will happen to them. At worse, they might get banned from deserts and get grounded. But that's that. So, let's not get involve with them. Don't you like ice cream? If you get banned from deserts too because you care about then so much, who knows what might happen."
Kira was unconvinced but she just decided to keep silent. Celes, however, stared at the boys in awe. She can't help but wonder how this much highly regarded magic be cramped up together like this in a single class and much more, in a single group. They were also mostly born in the same year it's hard to believe such thing could happen coincidently. She wondered.
