"You're not protecting her this way."
Not listening to him, Kishi turned his head away and paid no attention.
Displeased with his attitude, Livi sighed helplessly. "You really won't give me a straight answer huh?" Kishi did not even look at him though.
Helpless, he sighed yet again as a lone firefly landed on the tip of his finger. "You either don't want to give me an answer because you don't care whatever happens to her, or you simply don't know yourself." He said, blowing the glowing bug away.
"I don't believe you'll just abandon her that way. And you probably don't hate her that much that you would choose to leave her and face a punishment worse than death for breaking a simple promise."
Livi turned to look at him and only then did Kishi looked back at him. "It's not too late to go back to how the two of you were before you know."
Kishi stared at him before looking at moon again, resting his chin on his arms. "I won't." He simply replied. "I don't want to hurt her, but I don't want to kill her myself even more. I will willingly stay away and watch her from a distance if it means I could prevent her from dying. I just can't imagine seeing her dead by my own hands."
"I didn't know." Livi said with hushed voice. "I didn't know you could be so selfish as to let her suffer just to keep yourself clean."
His words were harsh and as sharp as knife but Kishi didn't mind. He wouldn't care what the other's think of him. To him, he believed that Kira will be fine even without him. After all, she was no longer alone and made a lot of friends already.
In the past, their world, there was only the two of them and no one else. They did not care about the other people. As long as the two of them were together, that's enough. Yet now, ever since they roamed free on the outside world, there was no longer the two of them. There was just so many people trying to enter their world.
Kishi felt like their world cracked into two, and the two of them were separated to different side. Although their hand remained connected, he can't help but feel that her side was too far away. It was bright and she was surrounded by so many while he remained in his empty side alone.
This feeling made him believe that his dearest sister was no longer alone and would probably be happy without him being there anymore.
It was really sad, but he was also glad. At least, he doesn't need to worry about her anymore. She will be fine on her own, without him there she would be happy. That's what he believed.
Even if he wouldn't be able to stay by her side and hold her hand, looking after her from a distance was enough for him.
Livi thought otherwise. He finds him naïve and foolish. He said he wanted to protect her, but he's only hurting her. If that poor and frail girl reached the limit of the pain she could take, He's afraid that she might perish in the end. After all, one needs will power to live, especially for them whose power is so strong they could be devoured by their own magic. They need to have a strong mind and resolute resolve in order to survive.
However, for her, she only wanted to live for her brother's sake. She wanted to live on so that he might not feel alone. But how long could she believe? How long could her faith on her brother last when he seemed to have abandoned her already? If she says she's tired of living, she would surely die. In the end, it was his fault for not giving his only sister the strength she needs to go on. It was his fault for foolishly believing that she would be fine without him. Would she be able to find another reason to live though? When she herself believe she existed for his sake and his alone.
She was still a young child who is frail, powerless, and weak. No matter how much pain she goes through, what could be worse than the pain in her heart. What could be more painful than losing your reason to live. If she were ever to die because of bloodless suffering, if she died because she gave up on living, wouldn't it be the same as him killing her? Indeed, but he doesn't understand that. He refused to understand. He was just too stubborn for his own good, he fails to see the big picture in front of him.
Livi thought that he was too selfish. He acted like he doesn't care about himself, as if he was selfless when in truth, he is being utterly selfish. He only care about what he feels not considering the feelings of those around him.
"Fine then. If that's how you think, I suppose I can't change it. However,..." before he left, he looked at him with a serious expression and warned, "...don't say I didn't warn you."
With that, he left, vanishing in the air.
...
By the next morning, everyone woke up early to start their new day.
Unable to sleep well, Kira woke up early. After she got dressed, she opened the door to down to breakfast.
As she opened the door, she bumped into Airi who happened to be passing by. Startled, she immediately greeted him.
"G-good morning."
"Oh, Kira, good morning." He replied with a smile.
Since the two of them already met, they decided to went down to the cafeteria together to get breakfast.
"Did you get a good sleep?" Concerned, her cousin asked her.
"Not really, I couldn't sleep."
"Are you alright then." He looked at her anxiously. "...you seem pale."
She looked at him and noticed the worried look on his face. Afraid to worry him even more, she denied. "I'm fine. Don't worry about me."
Truthfully, she was feeling a bit under the weather since she woke up. She was afraid to make everyone worry about her so she acted as if she were fine and nothing's wrong. Her appearance betrayed her though.
She was pale even for her porcelain skin. Her eyes looked tired and lifeless. Her rosy lips were dry and almost to the point that it lost its color. Because of it, she cannot fool anyone, especially Airi.
She was not good at lying. Ever since at birth, even if she tries to hide things from those who took care of them, she always told everything to her brother. Alas, she couldn't hide anything.
Airi stared at her even more anxiously. The words 'I'm fine', he always hated it for it always tells something entirely opposite. Especially this girl whom he knew was very sickly. With no one to take care of her during the times they were at school, what if she caught a cold? What if she was sick? What if she's scared? He felt displeased the moment she tried to hide something from him. He was worried for a reason and he wanted to take good care of her while their looking for a way to fix things.
Forcing a smile, he told her, "Kira, don't lie to me, alright?"
Kira looked at her for a moment and apologized. "I'm sorry." She just doesn't want anyone to worry about her. She doesn't want to trouble anyone and be a burden. That's all.
Shortly after, they reached the dining hall in their castle like dorm. As usual, it was filled with students who woke up early to get their breakfast and was eager to start their day.
The E-class students went to their classroom after finishing their breakfast.
During class, her girlfriends and Livi would inquire her condition every now and then. As for Kishi, he remained indifferent to her still and did not bother to even look at her.
The same thing occurred for days until almost a week had already passed since they came back.
After their lunch break, they proceeded with their afternoon classes. The teacher did not arrive in their etiquette class yet and the ballroom was filled with a lot of students not just the E-class.
It was also then when Kira suddenly collapsed and almost fell head first to the marble floor if Livi weren't by her side when it happened.
"Kira, are you okay?!" Her wan face looked really tired and contorted in pain. She was also clutching his clothes really tightly as he held her closely to his chest.
Airi, who was chatting with Kishi, Lune, and the trio of tricksters, saw the commotion and hurriedly rushed over. The same goes for the girls.
"Kira, are you alright? You should go to the infirmary first or head back to you're not feeling well."
Kira stubbornly denied them and struggled to stand up as she staggered. "I'm fine, no need to worry about me."
This statement clearly exasperated her cousin again. "Kira, you're not fine! Don't push yourself so much when you can't handle yourself. Have you looked at yourself in the mirror? You look terrible! Go take a rest if you need to and stop torturing yourself!"
"I told you...I SAID I'M FINE!!"
