Chapter 88 - Chapter 87 Fear for one's own magic

The children stared daggers at her as they protested.

"But what about the three of them?!" Rex said, glancing at the hallway where they disappeared to.

"Yeah, what about them Professor? We just wanted to see if Airi's okay!" Mythica agreed.

"Sit down!" She ordered all of them. They hesitated at first, but her aura overpowered them and they were all forced back down.

Pouting and displeased, Amili can only sigh as she looked at their faces.

"No matter how many of you will come, none of you can change anything." She was in doubt whether to continue, but she said to them anyway. "Airi....that child...was already dead inside..."

The children gazed at her with bewilderment. "What do you mean? Rex asked her.

"It was as simple as it sounds. Both Neon and James were fools to think that their child can handle everything they throwed at him."

"Er.....isn't it bad to speak ill of the dead?" Aspen said awkwardly, as he heard no hesitation in her voice.

"I was merely speaking the truth" Amili stated. "They were fools to overestimate the boy. They knew all too well that the child is mentally week, and yet they recklessly committed suicide without even thinking of what might happen to him next.

The student's continued to stare at her, confused still as she continued. "Ever since Airi was younger, he rarely talks and was cold towards others -- you all know that -- as such, they never let him get out of their watch. Wherever the child was at, either Neon or James will keep a close watch on him."

"Being honest, keeping watch on Airi wasn't a very hard thing to do since he was an obedient child and had always stayed by their side. He was also very quiet that only his parents would understand what he wanted."

"But why do you think it's necessary?" Amili asked as she stared at them. None of them answered and she continued. "Airi was above the rest of you. He was a total genius. If they would be stricter, they can polish the boy's ability and make him a perfect child, and Airi would be on par with Kishi an Kira's abilities. However, his emotional state was way too weak that controlling his powers would be near impossible."

"But because he loved his parents so much, the two of them are the only ones who can control his power. And because of it, he developed self-insecurity that he feared to be with too many people, afraid that he might endanger them all. The incident six years ago proved how dangerous he can be."

"But he isn't the only one who accidentally casted a large-scale spell when we were younger, right Yang?" Yin disagreed with her.

"Yin got a point. I myself, unintentionally granted all the wishes of all the people in Dandelion kingdom, and Sugar turned the whole kingdom of sweets into a large candy! How is Airi different from us?" Rex said

"You were also there that day, weren't you?" Amili looked at Rex. "...yet you only knew that Airi killed a lot of council soldiers. But what you don't know is the aftermath of that spell he accidentally casted. The corpses of those who died didn't disappear like it would normally do, but it decayed."

The children were stunned to hear her words. It was the first time they heard a dead person decaying 'cause it normally does not happen.

"The forest where that incident happened, took place south of the guild's territory. We never expected it to turn that way, but that whole forest became covered in thorny roses, and started sipping out the magic and life of every living thing there. Currently, none of you noticed, but that same forest was now nothing more but a dead forest covered in vines of roses and was still being sucked out of life. The dead was the same and their magic was sipped away, and slowly decayed back to the earth."

As she continued, terror was seen on the students' faces.

"Airi, though, unintentionally found out about that. He grew to fear his own magic even more so than before. As a result, he stopped coming to play with the rest of you, in fear that he might bring harm."

She leaned over the desk and earnestly looked at them as she spoke in a serious manner.

"None of you understand that however. He knew that the only ones that will remain unaffected by his own powers were his parents, so he tried to make up for his loneliness by relying on them much more."

Mythica asked her a question. "But...he changed, didn't he? It's because Sugar talked to him, that's why..."

Amili sighed. "Naïve...Sugar merely made him realize the solution for his problem. She made him think that if he would be friends with everyone else and if he would be close enough with all of you, he thought that whatever happens he will not accidentally bring harm to any of you, thinking that he'll subconsciously protect everyone from his own powers." She explained "It was somehow effective though. His self-confidence and social skills improved a lot and he became able to fully master his magic. Still, his dependency towards his parents remained unchanged. His belief that only them can harness his dangerous magic was still there, even after all those efforts he placed in order to protect all of you, he knew well that even if he wouldn't bring any harm to you, but what about the other people? His family, his friends, aren't the only one that should be protected."

"Airi was afraid. He knew well that even the simplest mistake could kill a lot of people. Now that his parents were gone, the ones his relying onto to help him whenever he needed were not there with him anymore. The impact on the child was quite large. From that very moment that Neon lost her life, it was over for that boy...There's no bringing him back..."

"But don't you think your giving up way too easily?!" Mythica protested slamming on her desk.

"Myth, that's not what she meant..." Miha told her, understanding Amili's point, but Mythica refused to back down.

"What do you think she meant then?!" She said, as Yin and Rex agreed to her.

Sighing, Lune began. "Can you vow that you'll be the one, or perhaps any of us here would protect all the people around him from his fearful magic, when he himself can't? Or perhaps control his magic. Can you do that?"

The children were rendered speechless. He was right, they can't promise that. Because if they could, would Airi be afraid to make that same mistake twice?

Magic isn't as simple as casting spells. Magic is a complicated and a frightening matter. With the appropriate type of magic, nothing is impossible. Mere humans can fly, would be able to manipulate nature itself. With enough power, one can destroy the whole world no matter how big it is with a single spell. And if it can destroy, it can also create a whole new world, and Harmonia is one example.

But because of everything magic could do. It was feared. And as a result, once a new and unknown magic suddenly appears and begun to pose a threat, it was being dealt with almost immediately. If it was confirmed that that new magic can't controlled or perhaps be of use the way most wanted, the only solution is to get rid of it before the problem gets bigger.

That, is one of the cruel rules of magic. Even the individual himself who wields that magic would not protest and will just accept his fate.

As Amili explained everything to them, Kishi, Kira, and Bubblegum reached the mansion of the Rosaroses.

Without sparring a single second, the three of them immediately made their way to Airi's room. On their way, they were met by many of the family's servants. None of them however dared stop them on their tracks, as they themselves wanted to bring their young lord back.

By the time they were about to reach Airi's room, the head butler bowed at them.

"My young prince and princesses, I' am afraid that the young master does not wish to see any of you. However, I dare say I deeply worry, our young lord hasn't left his room for a week now and skipped all his meals," He said to them sincerely in an elegant and polite manner. "I would be utterly grateful that you had come at last. I hope that you could convince him. Though I 'am well aware that this lowly servant is asking so much from you. After all, the death our Lord and Lady is too much for a child like him to handle. He may not be able smile anymore after all that had happened."
