Duan Cai whistled to himself as he walked along the sidewalk through the city. The day was bright and the air felt great to him. It was a very calming feeling to feel the nice breeze of air against his skin. He hated being indoors because it felt like being caged to him and when it came to being outdoors it helped in giving in a sense of feeling free. Even back in his world he had always been the type to remain out in the open fields as he played his violin and sang to himself. Ever since he came to earth he had never had many opportunities to indulge himself in things that he preferred to do because something else was always in his way since he was now in the body of a mortal.
Slowly Duan Cai's steps started to come to a halt as he eyed the boy in front of him who was knelt close to the ground with a beautiful blue violin. Something about the violin felt like it was drawing him in and he could not resist staring at it. He was not sure who the boy was that was knelt beside it, but he clearly caught sight of Duan Cai staring as he sent a warm smile in his direction. Behind that smile was something that he could not place as it felt like the boy was not in the slightest bit curious as to who Duan Cai was.
"Beautiful, right?" His smile never left his face. "I'm Aki Kitsune, but you can just call me Aki."
"Sorry for staring." Duan Cai replied back as he realized his eyes had not left the violin yet. He quickly shook himself back to his senses and sighed slightly to put a friendly smile on.
"Do you want her? I never use her anymore so I'm sure someone who actually has the desire to would appreciate her much more." Aki slowly slide his hand along the violin as his eyes remained on Duan Cai. There was a hidden glint behind them as if expecting something from him.
"I..I dont-" Duan Cai started to reject it as he turned his head in a different direction as he thought about walking away. It felt like warning bells were going off in his head and for him that was something he rarely felt towards someone else. He was a deity so the beings that could send him warning signals to be careful numbered in a very small group.
"I'll tell you what! The local park is just over there," Aki popped a sucker into his mouth and pointed in the direction of the local park with a smile as his eyes still remained on Duan Cai. "Why don't you take this violin here somewhere nice and try her out.. If you don't want her you can just give her back to me afterwards."
"Who are you?" Duan Cai's eyes flickered with a golden glow as he could feel something off about Aki Kitsune, but he could understand why he also felt the boy was familiar. It felt like he had met him somewhere before.
"Simple... Aki Kitsune! That's what I am. That's who I am. That's simply all there is to me!" Aki crunched down on the sucker causing it to shatter as he got up and paced himself towards Duan Cai with a smile on his face. His hands gently shoving the violin into Duan Cai's embrace.
Duan Cai's sole joy in life had always been to play the violin so as a violin was being shoved into his arms he was extremely careful to not damage it. There was something about it that just sparked light inside of him as he felt something familiar finally in his hands. He had not held a violin once since his reincarnation on earth.
It took a bit of effort from Aki but eventually Duan Cai caved into taking the violin from him and headed for the local park. Sitting down in an open space with crossed legs as he let out a long desired sigh of relaxation. His mind fading as his eyes closed for a moment. Everything about the instrument gave him a homely feeling as he began to play. The sounds were calm and beautiful giving off a heavenly feeling to everyone within distance to hear it.
Music was one thing that Duan Cai desired in his existence and it was one thing that he knew more than anyone. The sound of the violin began to give off slight golden light strings in the air around him as he played. His body enveloping in a beautiful light that made him seem other worldly to those who gazed and watched him in awe. All the mortals around him felt as though they were watching a beautiful angel, a fallen deity, or simply put they felt like heaven had descended in front of their very eyes in that moment.
Little did Duan Cai know because he was so engrossed in his playing that aside from those watching him Aki Kitsune was watching him from afar as well. The young man was holding another sucker in his mouth with a smile on his face. There was a mysterious look in his eyes that one would not be able to decipher even if they tried to. If there was one thing Aki knew more than anyone it was that he was good at getting things to go the way he wanted. Making people work in ways that he desired was something simple in his eyes.
"Ah, Duan Cai.. I knew you'd not be able to refuse your own desires that easily once a desire was within your grasp," He spoke as he crunched the sucker in his mouth before walking away. The empty stick from his sucker being tossed to the ground behind him. "because a god can not easily give up on their own desires."
That day Duan Cai played for hours in the park causing dozens of people to grasp focus on his music. He had become a focus of attention for the mortals who had never before heard such heavenly music played in their lifetime. Duan Cai had not even realized how long he had played, nor the fact that he had gained so much attention on him until he had long played and accumulated everyone's attention. The attention he had gained was positive from what he could tell by the time he had snapped to his senses, but it was attention that he had not planned originally getting.
