Chapter 3 - Little Children

Prince Xavier sat at his desk doing paperwork. He was informed early that morning that his wife had gone into labor. He couldn't care less but his father is expecting a healthy and thriving child. Xavier would do anything to appease his father from his constant pestering. He thought that his father, the king liked Princess Avela too much. To the point of marriage even when they had peace treaties with the Battula. As well as her resolve ignited something in his old man. He sighed as he could not focus.

A knock on the door announced the presence of a nurse, "Sire, the Lady has given birth."

"Ah, come in," he called in the nurse. The nurse opened the door and stood quietly. "Should I go see baby?" The nurse only nodded. Xavier stood and followed the nurse with his guards trailing him to the Palace of Glass' birthing wing. As he was about to step through the door, a tremor shook the ground. The nurse sped up faster, leaving the Prince behind. The shaking ground intriged Xavier but decided to look into it after he settled things here. Navigating the hallways and rooms through the palace until he found the room he wanted. Opening the door Xavier could see the doctors surrounding a bed. It was eerily quiet in the room, giving an ominous feeling. Xavier stepped forward, parting the doctors only to find the dead body of his wife holding a bundle. The Prince could see the blood Avela coughed up and the resignation on her face. She knew what was happening and was content with it.

Xavier turned towards the doctors, "What happened?"

The head attending doctor replied, "Ah, the Lady died just after naming the babe." Xavier raised an eyebrow. "What's the name?"

"Blake Layla, Princess of Froth and Battula," a nurse replied. Ah, so it is a girl, Xavier thought.

The doctor dismissed the room after giving orders. He pulled Xavier aside, holding the child, "Your Majesty, if I may, I believe this child is blessed."

Xavier looked at him, "Blessed by who?" The doctor only shook his head. He handed the babe to Xavier, "It is your responsibility to take her to the Green Palace and let the nannies take over. Since her mother is gone she needs the care of a woman." Xavier nodded, taking the bundle from his hands. He looked into her eyes and saw a mixture of his own eyes and her mother's with a blue ring. They were astounding and beautiful to look at. He walked away with his daughter and strided over to the Green Palace. Despite it's name, the palace was marble white all around. There were a couple kids out in the front lawn. They looked at the approaching prince with awe before bowing in respect. The ruthlessness he was known for stroke fear in the little childrens hearts. He walked inside the doors and was greeted by many nannies all bowing in respect.

"This is my daughter. Her mother passed and she is in need of a place to stay, for I can not keep her," Xavier announced to the shocked looks he got by holding a baby. A nanny nodded and took his child from him. She turned and went upstairs to find a room for her. Xavier seemed content with that and left, leaving the dumbfounded nannies behind. They snapped out of their daze and went back to their jobs, thinking about the new arrival. The older ones took to setting up the princess' room. The nanny who took the princess was assigned to be her attendant and was tasked to raise her.

"Ah what a cutie you are! And your eyes..." the nanny cooed, "My name is Clarisse. What's yours?"

A nanny who was at the birth answered, "Blake Layla of Froth and Battula." Clarisse smiled, "Such a pretty name for such a pretty girl. The name fits perfectly for a beauty born in the night." Both nannies nodded along. The name was a perfect match as they would later realize when the Princess grew much older. After the room was set up, Clarisse put the little princess, the name she started to call her, to bed. Enjoying the moments and fantasizing about the future with her to come.
