Lucas Dow's POV
I was looking at the woman that gave me to wear something that was more fitting for this century. I was looking at her before she glared at me and I was chuckling.
"Why are you staring at me?" She asked before I was tugging at my toga. It was uncomfortable at first but I will get used to it. I sighed.
"I don't know if I can do this," I said as I was looking at the sky. It was bright today and I wondered where Chrysi Gynaika was.
"I don't know about you but I have to go to work," the kind woman said as I was stopping her by holding her hand. She was surprised before she pulled it quickly that I can even register she did it.
"No touching. I have a fiancé. It will not do good for me and my family to see me touching others," she hissed at me as I was holding my hands up.
"Okay, sorry," I said before the woman was brushing her wrist. I cleared my throat as she turned to look at me with her death glare.
I've gotten used to it after a few hours in her company.
"So, will you tell me where are you working?" I asked as I was looking at her. She scowled at me before she was sighing.
"There," she said as she was pointing at the enormous building on the acropolis. I was blinking a few times before I was trying to grasp what she was saying was real.
"As for what?" I asked as I know that women barely have any significance in Ancient Greece. Or maybe it was concealed by others to show that women were not capable of doing anything.
But they were wrong, as always.
"I am a maid in the palace. And I am going to be late if I keep talking to you," she said before I was following her to the palace. Maybe I can get something inside the palace. I was following her footsteps before she stopped and scowled at me.
"Do you have to follow me everywhere? I gave you a toga and a tunic so I think that will be good enough," she said as she was looking at me murderously. I smirked.
"Well, I might as well get a job in the palace as well if you're working there," I said before this woman was rolling her eyes at me. It reminded me of someone that I know.
"Are you serious?"
"Dead serious," I said before I was looking at the woman. She was thinking about something before she was sighing as well.
"Fine. But you have to stay close. I don't want you to wander around. It was not safe," the woman said as I was smiling behind her when we were making our way to the palace.
And of course, I was not following her order.
I was walking behind her before I was looking at an ajar door that has sounds coming out of them. I went to take a peek inside and I was looking at the men that were clashing swords with one another. I was stepping inside the room before I was looking at the fight that was happening.
"Fight! Fight! Fight!" The men were shouting before I was smirking at them. They were cheering as the loser went down on the floor and the winner was raising his sword.
"Who's your champion?!" He asked as he was looking around the crowd. The crowd cheered as they were shouting their name.
"Julius! Julius! Julius!"
I don't think I saw this person in real life but he was looking familiar. I might have seen someone that has his bloodline but right now, I think my ego was getting the best of me when the winner said next sentence.
"Now, who will be willing to fight me to claim as champion?" He asked around as the crowd went quiet. I can hear the needle dropped and it echoed. I was looking around before the winner was smirking like an arrogant bastard he was.
"As I thought—"
"I will fight you," I said as the crowd was looking at me. The man in question at the center of the ring was putting his sword on his shoulder before he scanned me up and down. Then, he smirked.
"Are you trying to tell me that you, a skinny, puny man, wanted to challenge me, the ring champion?" Julius asked me as I shrugged.
"I would not boast if I were you. You don't even know me," I said as I was looking at the arrogant asshole.
"Well, be my guest then. Get ready to get your butt kick by me," Julius said as the crowd was cheering at him. I smirked before I was looking for a weapon that I can use. There were swords collection on the side as I went to pick one that balanced in my arms.
"Mind if I take one of this to use against you?" I asked as I was taking the bronze sword that was small compared to the one that was in Julius' hand. He laughed at me as he was calling me into the ring.
"Enough talk. Let's see who was the strongest between us. I must say, I am the personal bodyguard of the prince, so you might hurt a bit later," he said, still thinking that I was only a puny skinny man.
Okay, first of all, I am not skinny, I am lean, muscular and toned. But unlike guys around here, they were beefy and muscled. But I was not that kind of guy.
"Let's begin," I said as I was in my ready stance before I was holding the sword in my hand and Julius was smirking at me.
"May you survive to see your beloved," he said as I was smirking at him.
"I am doing this because of her," I mumbled in English, which I know that they don't understand before I was moving forward and thrust the sword in my hand at Julius.
Only time will tell who was the winner.
And surprisingly, it was not that hard. I was looking at the man that was moaning in pain on the ground before I was wiping the sweat on my forehead. My legs and arms were numbed before the crowd was silent.
"What the hell was going on here?!" Someone shouted before I turned to look at a young man, maybe the same age as me as I was looking at his silver eyes.
I was amazed to see his stormy eyes before I know that I have the same eyes as his as well. He looked at me as he was looking at the man that was on the ground as well.
"Julius, what is the meaning of this?" He asked the man before Julius was groaning in pain again. I was throwing the sword at a man that was on the bystander. I was dusting my hand as I was looking at the new man.
"I defeated him in the ring so I was the strongest man now in this ring. Are you trying to challenge me now?" I asked him before he was arching his eyebrows at me. Then, someone was whispering to his ear before he nodded as he was looking at me.
"I see," he said as he snapped his fingers and Julius was not around anymore, moaning in pain. I was looking at the dispersed crowd before the newcomer was coming at me. He was critical but I tried to hide my feeling by being stoic right now.
"What's your name?" He asked me as I was looking at him.
"My name?"
"Yes, you have defeated my guard and put my name to shame. So, I will recruit you for being the strongest man in Attica right now," he said as I was blinking my eyes at him. But then, I laughed. I was wiping my tears before I noticed that the man did not laugh.
"What's so funny?" He asked me as I was clearing my throat.
"Nothing," I said before he scoffed at me.
"'Nothing, my prince,' That's what you should be saying when you're in the presence of the sole heir to the throne. And considering that you were now my bodyguard, I will demand you to call me as such," he said before I scoffed.
"I did not even ask to be your guard,"
"Alas, you defeated my bodyguard. So by default, you are now my bodyguard. So enough of this nonsense, you will come with me to meet my betrothed now. Come on," he said as he was walking outside the ring and I was following him. As much as I don't want to, I cannot help but wanted to know who was his betrothed.
We were walking around the long hallway as I was looking around the palace. It was grand and magnificent when the natural sunlight was coming inside the hallway and making it looked like halos inside them.
We stopped in front of the giant door before it opened and we walked inside. I was looking at the prince's behind before I was scowling at him. I can easily take him out but that would disrupt the history timeline.
"It's time to go," the prince said before I was looking at the princess that was adorning a deep purple stola with a white tunic underneath it. Her hair was brunette and long with loose ponytail behind her. It seems that I knew that from somewhere. And my hunch was correct when the princess turned to look at us.
It was Arianna Contos and she was shocked to see that I was behind the prince.
More shockingly, now I know who was the alter ego of the Woman in Gold that I have been chasing around.
