Katrina Kuznetsov's POV
"This will not work, Reid. What are you planning to do if we got caught for stealing?" I asked him as we were twirling around the dance floor for our second song together now.
"will you just relax? I got it handled. And by the way, you might want to consider looking very closely to that emerald and the Grand Duchess' lady in waiting," he whispered as he spun me before dipping me as I looked at him.
"can you just get to the point?" I said as I was losing my patience. He pulled me up again before he moved me toward the side of the dance floor. People were crowding the floor as we might get out of here without getting noticed.
"Shit, it's the Duke," I said as I went to warn Conall. He turned to say something before the Duke interrupted us.
"Katrina, Conall, I would like you to meet my sister-in-law, Lady Danielle. Her late husband was my older brother, Henry," Jack said as he allowed the new duchess to meet us.
"Well, hello there. I heard that you saved my brother's life. I am very grateful to you," she said as I bowed to her and Conall, like a real gentleman, kissed her hand.
"It was nice to meet you, milady, but Katrina and I will have an early night as it was intense to save our lord here," Conall said as the duchess just laughed at us.
"Come on, don't be silly now. We have to get something to drink together," she said as she pulled Conall to her side.
"I like you, come. Let's get drunk until we cannot remember!" She shouted as she dragged Conall away from me. Jack went to my side as h just looked at Conall and his sister-in-law.
"well, now that we are alone, shall we?" He said as he offered me his hand. I smiled as I knew that I would never get someone like Jack even though he was from a different time and he was Conall's ancestor.
"Thank you, Jack but I think I might need to get some sleep," I said as I added a yawn for effect.
"then, allow me to carry you to the bedroom then, Katrina," he said as he still offered his hand.
"Fine, but not for too long. I don't want your potential wife to be angry," I joked before he looked at me as I had offended him.
"look, jack, I don't hate you but…" I said as I looked at Conall who was still up for a drink with that duchess before they laughed at something that they were talking about.
"But you love him, didn't you?" Jack said as he sighed that made me looked at him.
"I understand that look and feel. You can never tell your feelings and you will never be with that person anytime in your life, even though there's nothing that holds you back anymore," he said as he looked longing at the duchess. I noticed that look and I guessed it was the same kind of thing that I looked like when I saw Conall for the first time.
"very well then, enough chit chat," he said as he took my hand into his, "shall we go? You must be exhausted," he said as he walked me toward the bedroom. I stiffed a yawn as I don't want to be unladylike.
"yes, I think I am about to collapse," I said before we went out of the ballroom and went to my bedroom as I was feeling sleepy with every step of the way.
Conall Reid's POV
"Well, aren't you having fun now, Conall?" The duchess asked me as she was leaning onto me after a few drinks. I don't drink much but being Scottish has some advantages when it comes to consuming alcohol. I wouldn't try to recommend to do this for people who don't know how to handle their alcohol.
"so, are you having fun?" The duchess asked me as I was smiling at her.
"yes, milady," I said as I was holding my scotch. I don't think I want to get drunk in the past as I need to protect my identity.
"Oh come on, you just have that? Let's pump it up. You need to try this beer. It was the best in Scotland, right here in Edinburgh," she said as she shoved me a mug.
"no I don't think it would be a good idea," I said as I was pushing it away. She looked at me with her blue eyes.
"Don't you dare push away my mug! You should be honored," she said as she was trying to shove the drink into my mouth. Suddenly, someone took the mug and drank in one shot.
"Urgh, that's a sting. Come on, Danielle, leave the poor lad alone," Jack said as he hit the mug on the counter. The duchess pouted as her brother-in-law whispering something into her ear that made her cheered up again.
"Then I should get going. I don't want Lady Kuznetsov waiting for me," she said as she went out of the counter bar and disappeared after some series of doors and Jack took her place as he ordered some whiskey.
"What's that all about?" I said, trying to make conversation when Jack was drinking his whiskey.
"Well, you know women, they loved when you said about dresses and tiaras," he said before he leaned on the counter and sighed. I looked at him as he was deep in thoughts.
"what is it? You looked trouble, my lord," I said as I was trying to be formal to him. He waved his hand in front of me.
"Please, call me Jack. You saved my life," he said as he was laughing before he went quiet all of sudden.
"It's just that, I proposed to Katrina tonight," he said as I stopped in my action. My blood boiled for no reason. I tried to calm down and heard him out. Jack laughed as he sipped on his drink.
"But, unfortunately, she has someone else in mind," he said as he took one shot of his drink.
"Well, he's a lucky guy then, I guess," I said as I took a sip of my drink. Jack laughed as he put his drink before patting my back.
"Yes, he is," he said as he looked at me. I arched my eyebrow at him before he went away from the bar.
"What's wrong with him?" I said as I shook my head before I finished my drink and I felt sleepy. I moved away from the bar and my way back to my room. I think I needed it was a really good night's sleep.
In the morning, there was so much noise as I was grunting in my sleep, trying to block out the noises.
"Stupid machinery," I said as I knew the technology in the 1950s was not that quiet as the modern ones. But who was I to complain? I got myself and Katrina into this mess, I need to deal with it. then, there was a knock on the door that made me grunted into the pillow even more.
"Conall, open up. Time to get moving," Katrina's voice was coming from outside of the room, from the other side of the door.
"urgh? Early in the morning?" I whispered as I got up from the bed and went to open the door. I opened it and saw Katrina was wearing a cute yellow dress and she was restless. She turned around to look at me before she shrieked at me.
"Conall!" She exclaimed. I stiffed a yawn as I rubbed my eyes.
"What now?" I asked as I looked at her. She was covering her eyes.
"You're not dressed properly," she said as she was turning her back on me. I looked at my condition after I got up. I was just wearing a boxer and I smirked, knowing that Katrina never been naked with any man. That made my heart beat fast.
"don't tell me that you never been with a man before, Katrina? I thought you're so badass," I said before she turned around and pushed me inside the room before she closed and locked, might I add, the door before she turned to look at me. I looked at her casually before I put my hands on either side of her. She eyed as she meets my gaze.
"What are you doing?" She asked she was moving backward that made her back hit the door.
"Conall," she whispered as she put her hands on my chest before she looked at me in the eyes.
"Katrina," I whispered huskily as I knew that she was anticipating something as I was moving closer and closer at her. She closed her eyes as she parted her lips and I can sense that our hot breath mingles.
"Conall, are you up? Daniella asked you to accompany us to meet Lady Kuznetsov. Come downstairs in about 30 minutes if you're interested. oh, and tell Katrina as well. Lady Kuznetsov wanted to meet you guys, my savior," Jack's voice was booming from outside that made Katrina jumped in her place.
"yeah, will do, Jack," I shouted as Katrina was looking down on the floor.
"then, I guess we have to wait then," I said as I was smirking at her.
"What are you even…" was the last thing that came out of her mouth as I claimed her mouth and she just shut up.
