Conall Reid's POV
"well, that should do it," I said as I looked around the room. All of the people that I don't want them to know about our next step has fallen out of their conscious minds. I can feel that Katrina's eyes were on me.
"what did you do to them?" She whispered as she looked at me. She looked at me horrified.
"don't me you poisoned them!" She exclaimed as she got a few steps backward from me. Sighing as I looked at her. I don't even think that she thought I would be that cruel.
"Come on, you think I would change the past? I just put them out for a while so that it would be easier for us to go looking for the emerald," I said as I looked at Jack, who was sleeping soundly on the couch, as I looked side to side of his face.
"what do you even see in this guy?" I asked as I can sense that my blood boiled. Katrina arched her eyebrow at me.
"and why you want to know, Mr. Reid?" She asked as she looked at me. I turned to look at her before I just shrugged. I don't want to expose my emotion too much as I know that it would be more awkward if she knew.
"nothing. Just out of curiosity of my scientific mind," I said as I got up and went to look around the painting room.
"How do you even know where the emerald is? I thought the duchess has it," she hissed as she looked at the sleeping duchess. Wait, don't tell me-
"no, I just heard them talking last night when the duchess run out of the ballroom. I heard that her good old friend will be receiving the emerald today. And I guess, it will be on this visit. I saw someone was taking something from the car that we rode and it was guarded heavily," I said as I crossed my arms as I looked around the room, trying to form the maps of the house so that I can locate where was the emerald might be.
"Great, now we have to search around the house for that stupid gem?" Katrina exclaimed as she was grunting before she went to the wall. I looked at her as she was acting strange around me today. Has she got up from the wrong side of the bed today?
"What's wrong with you? I thought you want to go back to the present day as you don't want to be stuck in history where your ancestor was here," I said as I was pointing at Lady Kuznetsov. She turned to look at me as I was going crazy.
"Okay, first of all, I don't even sure if she was related to me," she said in her defense. I thought she might say that.
"well, auburn hair, golden eyes, yeah, I think you're related but in the distant bloodline," I said as I was crossing my arms in front of my chest. Katrina scoffed at me.
"Secondly, we don't know if the emerald is here, or that guards just wanted to distract the bandits that might be lurking around this estate," she said as she pointed at my chest.
I arched my eyebrow as I can sense electricity that made me jerked a little bit. And I know that it affected her too. She cleared her throat before she went to move to the other side of the room, to be as far away from me as she can be.
"We don't even know if they are the good guys or my father's people. Remember, Reid, those people might be lurking as we were speaking right now," she said as she was crossing her arms in front of her chest. I can sense that my blood was going to my groin as I remembered our kiss this morning. Katrina looked at me as she was blushing hard. I knew that she was thinking the same thing as me.
"let's not waste our time. We need to get the emerald now," she said as she was moving across the room to get a closer look at any hidden door behind the paintings. I went to look as well. There was nothing. I sighed as I looked at Katrina.
"I think it might be on other room that this estate has," I said as I took her hand inside my hand and we went outside the room and looked for another room.
"did you make the servants sleep as well?" She asked as she was walking at a fast pace beside me.
"I don't know but I hope they would not stumble inside the painting room," I said as I was trying to open a door beside the painting room. It did not budge.
"it's locked, which means, it might be something important inside it," I said as I looked at the door.
"Allow me," Katrina said as she bent down as she pulled a bobby pin inside her hair.
"you have bobby pin, they did not invent that yet," I said as I looked at her. She turned to look at me with a duh look.
"Yeah, well, it's essential for every girl, okay? Of course, I have a spare," she said as she was unlocking the door. I went to look around the hallway as I don't want anyone to suspect anything. then, I saw a servant that was coming this way when we were trying to break inside the room.
"Shit!" I exclaimed before I pulled Katrina up and hit her back on the door.
"what the hell-" was the last thing that escaped her mouth before I took her mouth again, for the second time this day. I was kissing her before she was kicking as she was trying to escape from my hold. Then, she succumbed to my kisses. I know, I had that touch whenever I kissed a woman, they would all fall into it, including Katrina.
"Hmm," she moaned as I was tilting the angle of my head and opening little of my eyes as I saw the servant was taking another way to get to the other side of the hallway.
"get a room," he mumbled under his breath that I can hear very clearly. I pulled away from the kiss as Katrina was dazed by my sudden kiss.
"Nice job," I said as I opened the door and pulled her inside with me.
Katrina Kuznetsov's POV
Stupid, stupid, stupid Reid. How dare you play with my heart like this?!!
I thought as I was following Conall from behind when we were inside the room. I don't know why but whenever he touched me or kissed me, just like how he did to me after I unlocked the door, it left a fire burning inside me and I don't like it how it made me feel.
"Okay, I think I know where it is," conall said as he leads me through the darkness with a torch that he magically had.
"Where did you get a torch?" I asked him as I was following him closely, whispering to his ear. He turned around to smirk at me. I was going to slap this guy anytime soon.
"Relax, if you can have your bobby pin, I can have my Faraday light with me," he said as he was wandering inside the room. It was dark and murky but we don't want to disturb anyone that might be suspicious of this locked room that has lights coming out from them.
"Are you sure this is where she kept the emerald, Reid? Cause you know they might be waking up now," I whispered again as Conall picked something from his pocket.
"relax, I make sure that they have enough dose to sleep the entire day," he said as he turned to look at my horrified face. He chuckled sexily as I gulped when he was putting on his sunglasses.
"What are you doing, wearing that in here!" I hissed as what the fuck did he do to wear sunglasses inside the dark, murky room.
" it's not your typical sunglasses, it was an infra-red vision glasses. And yes, I have it with me when we landed in this time," he said as I was holding to his blazer. I felt like we were thieves in this room right now. Not that I don't use to, but it kind of awkward when I have a partner with me, which was Conall Reid.
"Okay, let's see," he said as he was scanning the room as I stood behind him. He scanned and scanned until he hit it on me.
"Nice choice, Katrina," he said as I just realized what he did.
"You jerk!" I hissed as I pushed him away and he just chuckled before he continued to look around.
"come on, emerald, where are you hiding?" He whispered as he looked around. I scoffed as he did that.
"Yeah, like it can answer you back," I said before Conall exclaimed Eureka! Seriously, my mouth and their consequences.
"what? Did you find it?" I asked as I hold onto his arm. He was still as he looked at the secret door across the room. I was about to go in but he stopped me.
"Wait, there's sensor around the room," he said before I arched an eyebrow at him.
"sensor motion was not invented until the 2000s," I said before he shoved me the infra-red vision glasses. I looked through it and they did have sensor motion.
"But how?" I asked as I looked at Conall.
"well, the only explanation that I can give is that someone beat me to the time travel," he said under his breath. He gripped his hands into a fist as I looked at him. He sighed before closing his eyes.
"can you get to the other side without alerting the sensors?" He asked as he looked at me. I smiled before I put on the glasses.
"Watch and learn, Reid," I said as I jumped and did a somersault. The lasers were in front of the painting that looked like someone from the 1500s but I don't see its kill switch. I jumped and hang on the chandelier and saw that the kill switch was on the other side of the room, far from the door.
"Great," I said before I flung around the room, hopping from wall to wall before I somersaulted and landed next to the switch and killed it. The laser was off and I took off the glasses. I looked at Conall who was in awe. I smirked at him.
"Now, shall we get it before someone spotted us?" I said as I walked toward the secret door with Conall behind me.
