Chapter 10 - Wasteland

The ride was quiet, not a word from Evan, Sadako or Avery until they reached the walls leading into the wasteland.

Luckily Shirone set up a route of safe passage for Sadako and her friends. If it weren't for that they wouldn't have had a chance in hell of escaping.

They committed an attack on the castle inside the royal kingdom after all. Despite the fact that they weren't there for melocious reasons, they were now fugitives none the less.

Sadako looked up at Evan, tears in her eyes and her lip quivering. She desperately wanted to say something but no words left her. In the end she shook her head at Evan and began walking ahead.

A wordless conversation also between Avery and Evan. They set foot onto the hot yellow sand outside the walls of the city.

Their mission was partly successful at least. Avery dangled the necklace that held the key to Neodeka.

Back in the throne room Sadako and Avery were both incased in stone. Goliath had the key out just to taunt Avery with it.

Sadako had used her ability to hit Goliath with a huge object. Even while turned to stone her telekinesis was effective.

When Goliath's focus was cut short the stone crumbled away. This was the action that left Sadako and Avery a brief moment to make a break for it and make an impossible escape.

None of this before Avery snatched the key from his supposed father, Goliath himself of course.

-------------------

"So I held up my part boss. I just hope you guys can really save Blair like you say."

Avery's eyes gleamed in the light conveying a certain seriousness.

"If Sadako says she can do it, then it will get done. I swear."

"Yeah? I bet you wish you could hold up to your word."

"What did you just say to me?"

Evan's brows quickly burrowed into an angry arch.

"What well with the missing kid and all I'm just saying yaknow."

Blood speckled the air, Evan had slugged Avery a hard right hook. Avery fell to the ground, red dripping from his lip. He wiped it with his fingertips, looking at it reflect against the light with a single chuckle escaping him.

"I'll give you that one buddy."

In some strange twisted way, Avery might have been trying to help Evan just then.

The wasteland was definitely not a place to be for long periods of time. The three were walking for hours, the burning sun beating down on their heads.

"Let me see the map and the coordinates."

Evan was beginning to act almost frigid. He couldn't even look Sada in the eye, he knew she would hate him.

Sadako's heart broke when Saika was taken right out of her arms.

Back then there were soldiers that busted through their wooden door completely shattering their peace of mind. They opened a scroll stating that Evan and Sada were fugitives harboring the king's born child.

Evan began shouting after a soldier hit Sadako in the face and grabbed Saika from her. The man just hit Evan in the back of the head, knocking him completely unconscious.

Sada was weak after giving birth, her power had been fading during her pregnancy. She was growing brittle during that time.

Sadako could barely even stand, yet somehow she found the strength within her to fight off 3 armored soldiers. She burst through the door only to see the horse drawn carriage speeding off.

She screamed at them, falling to her knees as the sky rained on her. Drenched from head to toe, she begged for the soldiers to give her baby back.

Sadako would have done anything.

Just like that time Evan had been worthless in the situation, he now failed to save Saika twice. He could hardly bear to think of it. He felt like he was the worst father that ever lived.

"Just as I thought.."

Sadako sighed.

"What?"

Evan circled around to face her. He knew her heart was shattered, but he needed to be the one to pick up the pieces.

"We're here. These are your magic coordinates or whatever."

Sadako replied. Evan looked at the map and the he looked all around him.

"That doesn't make sense, she said that Cera would be right here...Wait, when did she say she was coming? She said 3 days…ohshi-"

"Who?"

"The girl with white hair that I told you about!"

"Oh. You mean the 'time traveler' who took my baby?"

"Our baby!"

------------------------

"This sounds a little personal, I'm just gonna go over here so let me know when you're done or whatever..."

Avery walked away while kicking sand left and right.

"I don't know okay? Sada I want Saika back. You think I wouldn't trade my life for hers if I could? I would in a heartbeat."

Sada avoided looking into his eyes as he spoke to her.

"I know…I know you would…it's just so hard, waking up everyday knowing it's another day I'm missing of my child's life…"

Sadako fell into Evan's chest, she was honestly barely holding herself together. Tears streamed down her cheek. Evan held her face to his, wiping the wetness from under her rosy red eyes.

"Look at me. I promise to you that we will get her back. You WILL hold your daughter in your arms again and she's going to love you sooo so much."

"You think so…"

"I KNOW so. And when she gets older we can tell her how much we went through to get her back. And when we do she'll know how much we love her too."

A slow clap suddenly started in the distance contributed by Avery.

-----------------------

The three set up for the night, it would most certainly be a very long 3 days to sit in one spot.

Not long after settling down there was stomping reigning from the darkness. The temperature had dropped to an insanely low degree.

Avery suddenly set the surroundings ablaze with fire, lighting up everything in sight. From the flames came an enormous troll running towards them. It wailed and swung at them, bearing bloody tusks.

"Whoa!"

There was a barrage of huge glass shards flinging through the air. The troll took two more steps staggering before falling into a pool of green oozing liquid.

"Well, that was interesting."

"Yeah It's going to be interesting for three long days."

"Three days? You know it takes at least a month to get to Selina right?"

Evan and Avery went blank in the face. An entire month in a dangerous open desert with monsters, sand storms and zero shelter.

It almost sounds worse than their time on Neodeka.
