Chapter 78 - The Sailor Named George

Many years ago, George had been the son of a simple fisher who had taught him how to sail a boat through any type of weather

He had a simple life, but those days were his most fond memories of all. One day when he was in his teen years, he and his father were out fishing, he had noticed that his father had been acting strange for the past several days but he had just put it as stress. That day his father sailed them out to a deserted island and told him to wait for him to get something from the boat. In the end it turned out that a certain pirate crew was in need of a person experienced in sailing their waters, and given that George's family was quite poor, it wasn't hard for them to be convinced to sell their child to the pirates, after all they had other children that they had to worry about as well. So George became a pirate and served on the crew for over twenty years earning the money that he needed to by back his freedom, and after doing so he stayed on the crew to save money to support the family that he had gained while aboard the crew. When he had been on the crew for nineteen years they had acquired a new member who would later become George's wife, her name was Sam and she had been thrown into a similar situation as George himself only she was a diver by profession who had beed brought on board to raise the sailors efficiency when it came to swimming in depths which had become quite the problem since most of the ships that they fought against would sink before they had time to gather all of the supplies. After gaining his own freedom George had saved up the money he needed in a mere three years before getting married. Afterwhich they spent the last two years earning as much as they could so they could get out of the business and start a restaurant on the seashore, but when George learned of the child he decided that it would be best if they got out as fast as they could. When asking the captian he had been given permission as long as he survived the last mission. The hope that George had felt in that moment was almost more than he could take. All he had to do was one more job and then he could escape this horrid life which had been forced upon him all those years ago.

"So then I guess that makes you George?"

George felt like all of his hope's had been shattered in one fell swoop as he looked up at the monster who was standing over him. The creature towered over him and had a disturbing pattern painted over his face, the creature's smile made George's blood run cold. He swallowed the knot in his throat and tried to nod his head in response, but he couldn't make his body move at all.

"Why does it matter what his name is? We are here to kill all of them anyway right?"

The thought of all of the crew being killed made George think of his wife and he forced himself to move. He fell to his knees and began to plead with the monsters in front of him.

"Please, even if you are going to kill me and the rest of the crew, please leave my wife alive, she has never taken part in any of the raids and she was forced to teach the rookies to dive that is all."

He had his face to the ground in fear for his wife and unborn child.

"It's not like you have blood on your hands either, do you George? Sure it is partially your fault that some raids have gone over so smoothly, but you have been helping the survivors as much as you could from the shadows, haven't you?"

His skin turned pale as he looked at the monster in front of him. He couldn't understand what was going on, one of the monsters seemed to want him dead, but the other one seemed to be trying to keep him alive, was it some kind of trick or something? He couldn't tell, but if he could save his wife he would do anything.

"What do you want from me? I am only a sailor I cannot offer you anything of value, what good would I be to you. Don't you monsters hate us?"

Gordan tilted his head to the side and the cat creature looked at the human who was still looking at the floor in fear. The cat creature walked over and put its paw on George's shoulder which made him look up at the strange creature.

=Meow=

The cat creature shook its head confusing george even more. Gordan picked up the cat and began to pet it absently.

"Not all monsters inherently hate humans you know. Just most of them, From what I have gathered you have been trying to get out of this line of work ever since you had gained your freedom so I don't know why we can't come to an understanding about something."

The way that the monster spoke scared George because it made him feel like he was about to be ripped apart if he didn't agree with the monsters words.

"Y-yes, depending on what the agreement contains that is. If this will jeopardize my family then I cannot agree even to save my own life."

Gordan waved his hand in a dismissive gesture.

"Don't worry about it, I have no intention of harming your family if you cooperate with us on this matter."

Bjorn couldn't understand what was going on with this random human, but if the guardian was willing to keep him alive he would do the same for now.

"What could you want from me?"

Gordan patted his shoulder reassuringly, and then held his hand out to George who was still on the floor.

"You are one of the head sailors, who happens to he in charge of the ships maintenance. I want you to place one of these in each of the ships and that is all that you have to do. Simple enough right?"

In his other hand he held five small square stones which were black and smooth. After helping George up he handed the stones to him, closing the pirates hand around the items.

"Also make sure that both you and your wife have these with you."

He pulled out two thin threads and tied one around George's wrist, he lay the other in his other open hand with a pat to his shoulder once more.

"Why are you doing this for me?"

Gordan looked down at the person who was staring at him questioningly. It wouldn't make much sence if one didn't know what the goal was, but this method was the best way to get rid of the problem completely, and insure that no one survived. It would make it so much more convenient to deal with any potential loose ends. As long as the pirate did what he was told he would be able to escape this ordeal without a hitch, Gordan was quite happy that he had overheard all that he had, since it seemed that george had been a rather popular topic that day and so he had gained more than enough information to pick him as the best target.

As they were walking away from the pirate Bjorn walked beside Gordan still confused about why he chose to not get rid of the pirates then and there.

"Why don't you just kill them all now? They don't even realise that we have infiltrated their base so it would be easy for us to get rid of them all in one fell swoop."

Gordan walked up to one of the ships and reached out his arm to touch it gently. Emedeatly sparks began to fly and he quickly removed his hand from the boat. The sound alerted some of the pirates who were near, prompting them to come over and investigate. But all that they saw was a small cat creature which was chasing a mouse across the deck, and they decided to go back about their business before the boss caught them and acussed them of slacking off.

After they rounded the side of the boat Gordan took the fir off of both of their shoulders and put it back into the 'Screen', when he had finished Bjorn was even more confused as to why the people were seemingly unable to see them even though they had been right next to them.

"The ships are coated in a substance which reacts to anything that has not been designated as either cargo or a crewman by one on the crew in order to prevent any suprises. Plus the crew is split up all over the island at the moment getting the last bits of preparation over with."
