Chapter 73 - To the Last Man

Gordan stood up and laid the cat creature on the ground, before walking to the edge of the beach and stretching out one of his hands tward the sea. The water around the ship started to bubble and rock the boat back and forth, before the surface over the water suddenly erupted with jets of boiling water shooting through the sides of the ship ripping it to pieces. The people on the ship fell into the boiling water and were instantly burnt to crisps. Some of the people latched onto the pieces of the ship which were still intact enough to be useful, but the boiling water began to seemingly eat at the wood of the ship until the pieces slowly began to sink under the surface. Soon there was only one piece of wood remaining, and on it there was a lone individual frantically using spells to cool down the water with little success. Gordan drew back in his hand and the sea brought the wood to the shore at his feet. He picked up the person by the back of their neck and walked back over to Beorn and the cat creature, throwing the person at Beorn's feet he let the cat creature jump into his arms.

"You can question this one to find any information you deem important, but when you are done I need to interview him myself, to finish the job properly."

He walked a bit away and then turned around to wait for Beorn to prosses the information that he had just received. When he did, he picked up the person who was by this point unconscious from over use of magic and from the pain of the blistering ocean. Beorn took the lead and led him to the village where the others were waiting to see what the noise had been. They had rightly assumed that it must be the pirates but after there was no more movement they had begun to wonder what had happened, and then Gordan and the two others came into veiw and the villagers all let out sighs of relief. Gordan stayed on the outskirts of the village and let Beorn enter to explain the situation. At this point in time Gordan had no desire to get involved with another village, since the memory of the past one was still so fresh in his mind. He instead decided that he would go find some food for him and the cat creature to eat while they waited for the village to deal with their part of questioning the person he had brought them.

Unlike the island he had landed on in the beginning, the island that he was on now was almost connected to the mainland, separated only by a small canal which divided the two. The island was also quite a lot larger than the one that he had been on before, and contained more wild life as well, which made finding food a simple task, but Gordan instead desided to look for some herbs around the area, since it seemed to be rich in that sort of thing

If he could find the herbs which he was looking for he would be able to make his food much more delectable than just eating the food plainly. This also ment that he would have to hold off on finding the meat until he was able to get the materials that he was looking for.

While he was searching around the area he found some of the herbs that he was looking for, but at the same time he ended up at the canal which separated the mainland from the island. He saw that there were more ingredients on the other side so he took a leap over the canal landing softly on the other side going back to his collecting his herbs and spices. He lifted up his head from the small patch that he was hovering over and smelled the air. Something smelled off, but he couldn't tell what it was, so he decided to investigate. The cat creature on his shoulder also seemed quite interested in what the smell was so he saw no reason to ignore it. He figured that it would take until the morning for the village to interrogate the person, and if any attack was made during the night, the contract would alert him before the situation got out of hand.

Walking cautiously through the trees Gordan followed the scent to a raging waterfall which looked like it could tear the skin and flesh off ones bones just by touching it. But the scent was coming from behind the waterfall so the two of them ventured forward. When they approached the waterfall Gordan raised a barrier around him so that the water would hit the barrier and just wash down the sides without any problems. Crossing over was easy enough and the two of them found themselves in a dark cave which was hidden behind the waterfall. Gordan wandered what could have gotten into the place other than a person or monster using magic of a higher degree.

The answer soon presented itself as they came across an individual who was huddled over in a corner of the cave sleeping restlessly. Gordan snapped his fingers and a small flame appeared in front of them elluminating the area so that they could get a clearer picture of the person who seemed to be barely breathing. Gordan leaned over and cast a small spell on the individual, witch would be able to help them at least stay alive. As he waited for the person to wake he noticed that they were holding a small piece of stone in their hand. Gordan gently took up the piece and examined it carefully. There were small letters ingraved into the side of the stone, written in a code which had been used during the great war to relay important messages. Which made Gordan curious enough to translate it and read whatever the message was.

-The general and the king are in a fight again. The kingdom is aware of your deteriorating health, but you are needed back at the capital to help balance the situation. This message is classified, and considered a class five order which should not be ignored under any conditions, other than death.-

Gordan finished reading the message and gently placed the stone back in the unconscious persons hand. He wondered what the whole thing could be about but then again it didn't have anything to do with him, and he knew that it would most likely be for the best if he kept out of the problem entirely. While waiting the cat creature suddenly jumped down and sat next to Gordan with its eyes closed tightly, like it was consintraiting on something. Gordan noticed its paws start to suddenly grow slightly larger and then the rest of the cat creatures body grew another size as well. Gordan smiled and patted the cat creatures head after it had once more opened its eyes panting for air.

"Nice job, you broke through the first layer in less than twenty four hours, can't say that I've seen anyone do it quite that fast before. Congratulations."

As the cat creature was purring happily at its accomplishment the person began to stir in the corner which drew both of their attentions once more.
