Chapter 67 - A New Place, A New Form

Gordan opened his eyes and saw that he was on a strange beach in the early morning. He felt alittle odd and when he stood up he had a hard time keeping his balance. Which made him wonder if he had gotten taller or somthing. Looking down at his hands Gordan saw that they had turned into claws while maintaining the black and red colors. He opened his mouth and felt his teeth which seemed to have gotten sharper and longer. As his hand felt down his face he landed on somthing strange half way down his neck. He quickly felt the other side of his neck and found that the situation was the same.

Gordan took several uncertain steps forward to the edge of the crystal clear ocean to see what in the world he looked like at the moment. It took his eyes a minute to adjust but as soon as they came into focus he saw why that was.

"When it said it was just going to do things randomly it really wasn't kidding."

His skin had turned an ashen grey and his hair snow white. there were red markings all over him which seemed to be some type of tribal marking set. His pupils were slightly pointed and his eyes had changed from green to a deep red matching the markings. He saw that he now had a pair if small horns poking out of his forehead as well. The thing that he had felt on his neck were gills which weren't active at the moment but he guessed that they would activate if he was submerged in water. As he didn't have much more to do he stuck his head under the water up to his shoulders and tried to see what would happen. After a couple of seconds his throat closed up and his gills opened emidiatly beginning to operate. Gordan pulled his head out of the water satisfied with the results. Though it seemed that there was a small amount of time in between transformations where he would be unable to breath.

Other than the most visible changes such as color and height Gordan felt like he was a bit different, almost as if he had extra parts to him that he didn't have before. He also noticed that the stone on the back of his neck had maintained its location though something did seem to have grown over it a bit more. He decided to turn his attention back to his face and inspect his mouth. His tongue seemed to be a bit more narrow and lengthy but the real kicker was the change in his teeth. They were razor sharp and jagged, it made Gordan seriously concerned about his future ability to consume non meat based foods well.

He had to wonder where exactly he had been sent that made it necessary to change his appearance so drastically. It also brought up the question of if he would be able to revert back to his original form. Right now it didn't matter, what did matter was the fact that his pack and sword had somehow disappeared completely. He couldn't help but freak out slightly as it had contained the fir that he had received from the Winter March king. Suddenly an emergency notice popped up and he opened his screen to find all of the items that he was missing listed in bold lettering.

[Iteams will be stored until the user has need for them, warning: There is a max amount of items that you can hold at once in the system. -Curent total_50-]

Gordan scratched the back of his head in slight confusion. It made sence that the screen could hold things since he had personally seen it swallow the teleportation item before, but this was just a bit weird, so he decided he could deal with it later. At the moment Gordan's top priorities were, to locate a sorce of food and to find out where he was. It was obviously a tropical region due to its weather even at the beginning of winter.

Gordan frowned as he realised why the system could have potentially changed his appearance. The only place that he could remember which had such clear water and perfect weather, were a set of islands which were located on the border between the human and monster nations. He didn't know which would be worse, being on the human side with his appearance, or being on the monsters side with all that he had ever done. He decided to ignore the thoughts and instead focus on his other priorities.

Gordan was able to walk around the island within a couple of hours which ment that it had to be on the smaller side of the islands that he had been to in the past. It seemed to be completely deserted though which was nice since it ment that he didn't have to deal with anyone while he was testing his abilitys. Once his research of the islands outer shore was finished he looked toward the trees which were a bit inland, as he started forward another notification popped up only this time it was slightly different. It was in the corner of his vision which was a bit annoying. But the content of the message could be quite useful.

[4yr. 11mo. 30d. 21hr. 30min. 10sec.]

It was quite convenient for him to be able to see the date without any mistakes, if the time had run out without him knowing it that could be rather inconvenient since he had no idea what the rules of the game were in the first place, so he needed to be cautious about how he did things from this point.

=Sigh=

He decided to ignore it for now since it really didn't matter at the moment anyway. He began walking toward the forest line, when he heard a faint sound of oars coming from the water behind him and he decided that he could save the exploration for a later date. Having an unknown group on the island could prove to be rather difficult. But then again he still didn't have total control over his body and his walking was still a bit shaky, so he opened his screen and pulled out the fir that he had been given and draped it over his shoulders. As long as there wasn't an individual without magic affinity there wouldn't be a problem, even though it was quite a small chance he wasn't going to rely on the fir entirely. Conveniently there happened to be a rather large rock near the sea where the boat was coming in.

While he was waiting he flexed his hand out and found that he was able to bend his fingers backwards which was kind of weird and also confusing. It made him wonder what his joints looked like at the moment, and it was almost tempting to cut into his hand to find that out. But with somthing coming this way, he could wait a bit longer to do that. He hadn't really used the first two plus hours very wisely having observed rather than actually focusing on the mutations which had occured on himself. He was also still upset about his house burning down, as well as losing the people that had been with him again. Overall Gordan had experienced better days than this one. The oddities of his mutation were more of a sorce of intrigue than of fear so that was a slight upside which was easily balanced back to natural by the fact that he was on a strange island that could be in monster territory, which might turn out to be inconvenient if his identity got out. He messed around with his hands for a bit longer until he felt a strange sensation in the back of his mind which made him turn his head suddenly and see that a small boat had pulled up to the shoreline.

The strange feeling was quite interesting to him, it was almost like the moment that they landed on the shore he was able to tell that they had. Thinking about it he also wondered why he had made the assumption that there was no one on the island even though he had only seen the outside of the island. It almost felt like an instinct, and he was almost sorry that he had emptied his mind since it seemed that the system thing had totally gone crazy with some of the mutations on his body. It begged the question of how far it had gone, then an idea came to him and he opened the screen and looked at the small set of notifications which had somehow grown significantly. He looked at a random comment and sighed in disappointment.

[How many mutations can this body take before it starts to break down? Well I have time so I might as well check and see.]

He had to wonder if they thought of him as some type of lad rat or somthing. Also who was they in this context? That was also quite worrisome to Gordan, he would have to read the rest of the notes later, but for now he figured it would be better to see how things were going with the strangers.

They were monsters which made Gordan want to jump off a cliff. Monsters almost never left their side of the boundary and ever since the great wars, all ties between the two sides had been completely cut off. Which ment that he was most definitely on the monsters side of things.

The group consisted of four individuals, three adults and one child. They all seemed to be of the same tribe, they looked almost human but they had deep blue hair, twisted horns like rams, claws, and jagged teeth. It was one of the most common type of monster that could be found tward the edge of the border. And while they were called monsters it didn't mean that they were like mindless beasts. Monster was in this case just a term that was commonly used to describe the species which was similar to humans in intelligence but as far as abilitys and appearance they were different. The difference wasn't always that extreme but it was enough to make humans veiw them as oddities. Things were always like that, oddities usually weren't viewed in a positive light.

He noticed that the three people looked like they were alittle bit freaked out for some reason, and the kid was looking around for something. The idea somehow seemed to be interesting to him, and the people didn't seem hostile to him. He stuck the blame for such feelings on whatever mutations which had happened to him during that unknown amount of time. The thing that bothered him was how the three people seemed to be so nervous. It didn't make sence that they should be so nervous like that while the child looked to be so calm. Gordan decided that he might as well come out from behind the rock and at least see what the people's intentions were. He was also slightly interested to see if any of the group would be able to see him.

He stood up suddenly and slowly walked over to the beach. It wasn't until he actually got a good look at them that he realised that his vision was much better than it had been in the past. He also noticed that the child had some strange markings on its arms that looked like they were for religious purposes. As soon as he got close to the group the child fell back and looked at him in horror letting out a scream of fear.
