Chapter 6 - We Might Need a Bigger Brick

Just as Eisen was starting to think about bricking himself and Mos to death again, every one heard the tell tell 'Whoomp, Whoomp, Whoomp' of helicopters. The only problem was… this was the future. Nothing ran on fossil fuels anymore, the only people who even had access to it were in the highest most permanent versions of the government.

There were two main areas anyone could go into if they wanted to go into the public service area of government. Or more plainly put; politics. The Service branch, and the Private branch. The Service branch was the main branch everyone knew about, in fact if you weren't high enough in society, it was the only branch you knew about.

If you were high enough in society to know about the Private branch of the Government, you were high enough to have the shit scared out of you every time you thought about the Private Government.

The Public Government's job was to create equality for the highest number of citizens as possible, not in outcome but rather opportunities, their main job was to keep greedy people in check. To make sure the rich couldn't use the poor as slaves or worthless.

The Private Government was to provide safety for as many people as possible, which usually meant protecting the weak from the strong. The reason they scared the shit out of everyone was simple, they had taken life long unbreakable vows to be honest, upright, and just. A side effect of this vow meant they had immunity from all laws. Their vows, made them an embodiment of the laws. If they had evidence of any crime there were no cops, there were no courts, no bribes; just death. That was if you were lucky. If you were unlucky you'd get to spend a long time being pumped full of nasty chemical compounds, …well, let's just say tortured. At least until they were satisfied that all crimes had been brought into the light and all wrongs had been righted.

There were numerous families in the beginning who had tested the waters for the upper echelons. They no longer existed. Not even in books of history. When people forgot about them it would be as if they never existed in the first place. If that wasn't enough to scare you. Well congrats, you were either the baddest or dumbest motherfucker in the solar system, officially.

Mr. and Mrs. Gin started to get scared, they were obviously not stupid; and thus respectful and scared. There were only a few reasons the Private Government stepped out. But it was almost never good.

"Mr. and Mrs. Gin, Eisen, Good day. You can call me Agent. I have come today for a very sensitive issue. Don't worry too much none of you are in trouble. I'll have to trouble the Doctor and Nurses to leave though. I suggest starting the paperwork so that these fine folk, might go home if they so choose."

"Yes, of course, Agent. We'll start the discharge paperwork. Please take all the time you need. Just ring us with the button if you need anything." The Doctor was sweating bullets, damn! 'What locusts have you brought to my hospital. OUT,OUT,OUT!' Of course he'd never have the guts to say these things out loud even if you gave him 100x the guts. Hell he thought about slapping himself just for thinking these things, as he backed out of the room.

"Mr. and Mrs. Gin, I need you to sign these NDA(Non Disclosure Agreements). I have some sensitive information to impart and an offer to make if your willing. The explanation first if you will." as the Agent started to sit in preparation for a lengthy explanation; and the questions that would inevitably follow.

"Let's start with the simple things, Eisen there is special. In more ways than one. Even we don't know the full extent of it within the Private Government. All we know will be shared, obviously you signed the NDA and understand if any information is released from either of you. Both of you will die, and the Government will raise Eisen in your stead." Mark and Lydia were sweating buckets, they couldn't believe that their child had some how brought the attention of the Private Government. He wasn't even modified. Just 100% pure born human.

"No doubt you're thinking how can our baby be special, he's pure born, no genetic mods… right?" Agent chuckled a bit as he laid their thoughts out bare.

"This is indeed what we are thinking," Mark readily admitted as much "are you telling me that he's special because he hasn't been modified?" Lydia started to get a sick feeling as she thought through the ramifications and implications in that one little question.

"Indeed, it isn't well known. Only parents of natural born children who are of a high enough standing, and the children themselves who reach adulthood away from their families are sought out and informed of this information. Not even the Public Government is aware of what we are about to inform you of." The agent looked carefully at Mark and Lydia to make sure they were tracking along with the conversation and actually understood. If they didn't really understand it would only bring about endless troubles in the future. If they didn't understand it would be better to kill them for the safety of everyone on Earth. It was that serious. With that in mind Agent continued.

"I am sure you are aware around 80 years ago the government had to step in and place limitations on the genetic modifications done to children in order to protect them, and us. What is not know is that the modification limitations were not successful in the way that the government meant them to be and had far larger implications for the continuation and evolution of the Human race. When the government stepped in they meant to limit the amount of modification done in total rather than limiting what people could modify. This in and of itself was a success however there were unintended ramifications. As a unborn child goes through these modifications there are limitations placed on the actual DNA of an unborn child. For example if their parents chose to make the child stronger than normal; the child would be able to continue to break through his strength for the rest of his life. At adulthood his str stat might be around 40, while his int and speed stats might be around 15-20. If he continued to work at it his str stat could in theory continue to rise. For arguments sake let's use false numbers to make it understood easier. He might soft cap at 60 str, making any improvement very difficult, and he might hard cap near 75 str. At this point improvement would be impossible in most circumstances. But, his spd and int stats would never increase after reaching physical maturation. This is an unintended side effect of limiting how much and what parents can alter in the DNA of their children."

Are you understanding everything, Are you following everything, we can take a break if you need some time to think." Agent really wanted to make sure they understood. He hated it when he had to purge families just because he couldn't figure out how to make them understand the significance of this next part.

Mark and Lydia looked at each other then turned to look down at Eisen and smiled gently.

'Oi, System do you know what the hell this bald fruitcake is talking about?'

*Affirmative, Mos has extrapolated from the medical database that the hospital has unlocked for public access. This conjecture points to the truth of this matter.*

'So what is his point, this long winded bastard is making me tired!'

*His point is that since Eisen is natural born from two modified humans Eisen has all the strengths and no weaknesses of other modified humans. Eisen's DNA does not lock Eisen's growth like Eisen's parents. Eisen has the ability to evolve Eisen's DNA with hard work; unlike during Eisen's previous life where the average adult had stats in the range of 5. Even Olympians might only have 7or 8 in one or two stats, but they would never be able to exceed this. Even these levels would cause the human body a great deal of damage getting to and sustaining.*

'So to put it is laymens terms, I can evolve my DNA in whatever way I want as long as I work hard enough, and my DNA won't soft or hard cap as he put it? I can become stronger than anyone as long as I put in the effort?'

*That is basically correct, but don't forget about the other children like Eisen.*

'This is seriously broken, like game cheating final boss destroying broken.'

"Do you two follow everything so far?" Agent really hated this job, but some of his dumber co workers didn't bother with all the tedious modicum and just killed the parents outright. The only problem with the Laws and the promises they had made was that as long as it wasn't black and white it was up to subjection. To a limited degree anyways. There had only been 3 deaths within the Private Government within the last 100 years, and all of them were about this one job. It was extremely annoying.

Mark and Lydia had their own thoughts on the matter, but they thought that they had a grasp on it. So motioned for Agent to continue on.
