Chapter 8 - Cultivation is so hard!

"System, will the missions be refreshed after I accept and complete one of them?" Shen Ying asked.

"The missions will be refreshed once one allocated mission has been completed!" The system explained to Shen Ying. It was really reluctant to explain anything unless Shen Ying asked.

As Shen Ying looked at the missions, she immediately abandoned the mission of getting a mentor first. One has to know that a Rotating Core high tier cultivator was very hard to find, even in Lian Empire.

The only one that she knew of was one of her brothers, who could have possibly already started cultivation while he was in their mothers' womb. He had already reached Body Building high tier when he was born.

As she contemplated the other missions, she felt that Mission 1 was literally the only viable choice for her, even if sparring was a difficult thing to do. It was more likely for her to be able to spar 100 times than to beat a Spiritual Foundation cultivator at her level.

"What are general points?" Shen Ying addressed this question to the system. Even though the system had said that completing missions could help her, if did not mention anything about points.

"General points can be used to buy items in the redemption shop, and can also be sued to upgrade the system for gift packs and new functions!" The system enthusiastically replied to Shen Ying.

Hmmm, so it will be better to have more general points then? Shen Ying contemplated more and more about which mission should she complete, especially after looking at the rewards for different missions. Even though some missions were not viable, she could possibly find a way around it, especially if the mission offered mind bending rewards.

"Could I see the description for the Cut Time skill book?" Shen Ying wanted to know what sort of reward was waiting for her if she chose the hardest mission.

"You will be able to browse the mission rewards, as the God of Fate will not trick the user of the system. Equal effort will lead to equal rewards." Following what was said, the description of Cut Time popped up.

[Cut Time Low Skill Book: Qi is the origin of the world itself, which means it can be used to even cut time. Time around you is slowed around a 1m radius, but you will not be affected by this restriction. A huge amount of Qi will be required to activate this effect.]

Shen Ying shook her head. Even though this skill looked to be very useful, the part where it used a lot of Qi put her off. Her cultivation level was simply too low for her to think about using this type of skill. It was not worth choosing this hard mission.

Mission 2 for defeating a Spiritual Foundation cultivator. She knew that Si Xiu was a Spiritual Foundation cultivator, but she was probably going to hold back while fighting against Shen Ying. Not only that, if Shen Ying faced her whole might, she would be killed instantly.

She needed to find a Spiritual Foundation cultivator at the lowest tier to maximise her chance of winning. It could be easily done, but the thing was that at Body Building tier 1, she could not even beat a Body Building mid tier with her skill that needed a lot of Qi.

Her body was average for a cultivator, and she could not advance her cultivation at an insane speed with just her body. The progress she had was mostly fuelled by the Qi that the parents had put inside the manual.

Still, if she did progress far enough to defeat a Spiritual Foundation cultivator, then she would be able to achieve a lot more with the high general points that were awarded by the system.

Money signs glittered in her eyes as she explored the possibilities of becoming strong in a short time and completing Mission 2. Eventually, she still had to sigh and admit defeat. The only way she could become strong in that time was through the system or pure luck. The system relied on general points, so she could not use it. She was also unwilling to gamble on luck. She wanted to be the master of her own fate!

She did not hesitate this time, directly tapping on Mission 1. [Mission:Spar 100 times(0/100)]

The other missions popped out of existence, with Mission 1 growing bigger and bigger, until it had taken over all the space for the missions.

Now that Shen Ying has chosen her mission, there was nothing else for her to do with the system. She opened her eyes, but the taxi ride was still not over. Si Xiu was still in a very deep sleep, and the taxi was still driving.

Shen Ying looked through the glass windows, but there were only roads upon roads, with some vegetation sprinkled within to keep the view fresh. With nothing to do, Shen Ying decided to start cultivating.

The mantra of Unshaking Cultivation was to "Toppling is for the weak, only the strong will remain steady on their feet." To cultivate this technique, it was necessary to channel the energy of the world, through the cultivator's feet, all the way through out the body, until it reaches the head and exhale the impurities that laid within the body.

Even though this was the method that the manual had stated, Shen Ying knew about a better method of cultivation. It was to open up her meridians, which laid at particular points. Only by opening all the meridians, would someone be able to successfully build their spiritual foundation with ease.

She knew where the meridians were, so she would have an easier time using her Qi to unload the blockages. The energy from all around Shen Ying started to slowly move towards Shen Ying's feet.

When the slow energy moved into Shen Ying's feet, she could feel a prickling pain, as if blood was being drawn from her. She gritted her teeth, not intending to alert anyone in the taxi that she was cultivating.

However, as more energy built up in Shen Ying's feet, it felt like a boiling sensation. Shen Ying leaked out a few tears from her eyes, as the pain was seriously overwhelming.

She finally understood why her father did not let her cultivate. If this was just building up the Qi, what happens if she tried to open her meridians? The amount of Qi she had absorbed through her feet was less than half she had sacrificed to summon wraiths.

How did cultivators even manage to put up with such agonising motions? Cultivation is so hard! I want to go back home!
