Sheloah looked at her comrades as they crouched, hiding from the zombies. She sighed. "This is tough work than I thought it would be."
Her comrades only looked at her. Josh looked below to take a closer look and Tyler took the chance to look at his phone to give Alice a short text.
Veon went closer to Sheloah. "What now, leader," he said as he emphasized the word "leader".
She just rolled her eyes at Veon's sarcasm but he still spoke. "Your family's coming, right? If he's coming, Sir Jim might follow soon," he added and they suddenly heard someone's voice.
"Did someone mention my name?"
Speak of the devil.
They all looked back and saw Sir Jim. He smiled at the students and gave them a peace sign. The four raised their eyebrows at their teacher when he made the gesture. But what amazed them was how he came to their location quick.
How?
They observed him. His axe was bloody and there was a hint of blood on his clothes as well. Maybe he prioritized his escape, too, rather than attacking zombies.
"Sir, we can't proceed," Sheloah said out of the blue, now relying on the judgment of their teacher. Their teacher nodded then suddenly she came up with an idea. "Can you be our bait? So Veon can get the key of the service car," she added and their teacher's eyes widened.
These kids!
Sir Jim pointed at himself. "So I'm the bait?" The students just looked at their teacher.
'You just heard me! Why the hell ask me again? Don't you want to help?'
Sir Jim just shook his head as he chuckled slightly. "The teacher is being controlled by their students. Fine. I'm yummy anyway," he said and the students were suddenly taken aback.
'How can he joke around at a time like this!?' The four thought in unison.
"Just do what you can to attract the zombies," Veon said and Sir Jim nodded.
He pointed at the highest point of the roof. "I'll be screaming there as you do your thing. I'll be attracting zombies out of your way," he said and they nodded.
"I hope they won't be forming a mountain of zombies like in World War Z once you make a noise," Josh said and their teacher looked at them, feigning fear.
"Don't scare me!" The students slightly laughed at him. It is a possibility.
Sir Jim went to his location and he started screaming. "Being a Math teacher sucks!"
The zombies looked at him and the students were taken aback when they didn't expect Sir Jim to be complaining about his profession.
"Being a teacher of that subject sucks because students blame me when they don't understand a single thing when it was their stupidity and lack of effort's fault!"
"Ehe…"
The three boys looked at Sheloah. She was one of the students who found mathematics difficult and when she really could not understand something, she sometimes blamed the teacher.
'I'm sorry, Sir Jim.'
He really dared to complain about his profession now that the zombie apocalypse had started! Well, school ended, anyway… and this is one outlet he could do to release his stress.
They started walking on the roof going towards the guard's house. They took this opportunity since most of the zombies were now going towards Sir Jim's location. Their teacher's shout of complaints still continued.
They reached the end of the roof and once they jump down, they could already reach the guard's house.
Veon looked at Sheloah. "I'll go," he said and the three were surprised.
"What are you saying? We won't let you go alone," Sheloah said as Veon shook his head in disapproval.
"At least, only one would die. I won't say I would really die… but what I meant is we would only be risking one person. Besides… I would be the one driving. So I have to get the key while you guys guard me," he said and they now understood his point.
"Sheloah, use your gun if you have to," he added and Sheloah nodded at him. They had no choice but to follow Veon's suggestion.
"Tyler, go back up Sir Jim. Use the gun I have." Veon then gave Tyler his gun when he noticed that there were now quite a lot of zombies going towards their teacher's direction. Now Veon only had his knife left with him.
He looked at his comrades. "I will run towards the guard's house. If I see some things we could use other than the keys, I'll get it," he said as they all nodded at him. They could only follow what Veon had come up.
"Hurry up. We'll back you up," Sheloah assured him as Veon jumped, running towards the guard's house, becoming a vulnerable target to the zombies.
There were now zombies that noticed him. Sheloah got her gun hidden under her skirt and she started shooting the zombies near Veon.
"Please… let him be safe," Sheloah whispered to herself and Josh did what he could to help her attack the zombies.
