Chapter 1 - How, Exactly?

The class president, Dean, closed the door of the class. The moment he closed the door, a lot of people were now in fear with the sight of the guard's blood, splattered on the classroom window. When a lot of people screamed, the people in the next classroom started screaming as well. Soon, everyone in the school started screaming. It seemed that the contamination had spread quickly.

"What are we going to do? We're going to die!"

A lot of people started to complain and Sheloah's tolerance level started to disappear. She stood up as she banged her hand on her table and it got everyone's attention.

"Will you guys stop! As if complains could stop this situation. Stop your whining," Sheloah said and their classmate named Edward, suddenly spoke.

"Stop our whining?" He scoffed. "Do you want to die," he added and Sheloah slightly grinned.

Sheloah punched Edward on the face and everyone in class got surprised. Sheloah was surprised herself since she had never done something this aggressive before. She realized that her loss of patience got a hold of her. She hated people who were hot tempered especially at times when something got serious.

"We will all die if you let panic control your judgement! Now please… would you all be quiet," Sheloah said as she sighed. "I have a plan. Draw the curtains so they won't see us." She then started walking upfront, taking the initiative since she felt that nothing could happen if none would speak up.

Some of their classmates just cooperated and they drew all the curtains of the windows present in their classroom. Veon stood up then sat on the teacher's table. He was willing to listen to Sheloah and would be willing to volunteer to anything she has in mind. When Sheloah was now in front of everyone, all of her classmates and the teacher looked at her. She took a deep breath and her face started to look serious.

"I know some of you would think who the hell am I to decide on becoming the leader of this class but listen to me. Nothing will happen if no one will volunteer to speak up so I will take charge for the meantime," Sheloah said as her classmates started to calm down to listen to her.

"There's nothing we could do now. What we didn't expect to happen already happened. If you want to live, we have to do something about it. This is a survival. I hope you all understand." Sheloah then got a chalk from the board's ledge and started writing.

She wrote the word 'zombie' on the wall. "You all know what this is, right," she asked as she underlined the word. Her classmates nodded at her and Sheloah continued to speak.

"We don't know much about zombies but from the knowledge we got from playing games or watching movies and animes, let us try to apply what we know for this situation." Upon hearing this, one of her classmates raised their hand to ask a question.

"Apply them? How?"

They all now looked at Sheloah who was taking charge. Sheloah then walked slowly towards one window and took a peek on what's happening outside. "From the games that I played, I noticed that zombies can use weapons and they vary in speed," she said as she observed the zombies outside.

There were some zombies running. The others were just standing, too, and some were even walking. A lot of people were running and shouting; escaping from their vulnerable situation. A lot of their schoolmates were being turned into part of the undead army.

'Why did this happen in our school? How did this happen? Just because of a dog bite? What is with that dog?'

Sheloah shook her head slightly to calm her thoughts then she went back in front of her classmates. "I observed what was happening outside. It seems that the zombies really vary in speed," she said and her classmates then started to discuss quietly among each other.

"How are we going to escape," one of her classmates asked and Sheloah started writing on the board again.

"There's one thing proven from what we saw from games, animes and movies." Sheloah wrote the word 'noise' as she spoke. "Zombies react to noise," she said finally as she underlined the word, emphasizing its importance. She got the complete attention of her classmates.

Their adviser suddenly spoke. "What should we do, then?" They then realized that even their adviser had no other choice but to depend on the youngsters for being knowledgeable about the situation at hand.

"First of all, we should try our best to keep quiet. One tap of a pen, they would react. We are going to plan how we are going to leave this room first," Sheloah answered then the room fell silent. Everyone now understood the situation they are in.

Sheloah now had the position of being the leader of their class. She hoped that whoever is knowledgeable about zombies, could help her in making decisions and plans for the class. She then looked at two of her friends, Tyler and Josh; a fellow gamer and otaku as well.

"Tyler, Josh, join Veon. We will lead the class for the meantime," she said and they all nodded at her, willing to help her in whatever plan was devised.

"I thought of something," Sheloah started and everyone's eyes were on her. "For now, the safest place that we could go to would be the rooftop," she added as she wrote the word 'rooftop' on the board. "But since we are here in the ground floor, the access to the rooftop would be in the school's new building." The moment she said this, her classmates then started to discuss to themselves in a whisper.

"How can we go there," their class president, Dean, asked and Sheloah drew on the board.

"We are going to travel there by running on this building's roof," she answered but what their teacher said got them thinking.

"But, Sheloah… how can we do that when there are zombies around," their adviser asked and all of them went silent.

How, exactly?
