Immediately that word spilled out of the boy's mouth, an alarm went off. The loud siren blared ominously from all angles. A few Ngamés had a scared look about them. Others just looked around. They felt there was no need to panic cos Humans were no match for Ngamés in a fight. The guides began shouting orders. Two of them wanted everyone to fall back while the others shouted for everyone to move forward. This confusion brought about some moments indecision and delay. Everyone pulled towards the five guides that ordered that they march on.
In the distance, army wagons and trucks were throttling at full speed towards them, cutting them off from the front. It looked like a battlefield already. Ngamés were running towards the army. The army trucks stopped a mile away and soldiers began jumping out with rifles. They began spreading out at the bark of an order, taking up positions, rifles aimed and ready.
Colonel Sebastian Lyon stepped out of a wagon, sweeping his gaze across the whole scenario. His grotesque moustache danced up and down as he grinded his molars. He was not familiar with a sight like this. Seeing people running on the other side of the force field looked surreal. There had been stories of people living outside the Great Wall, and these stories mentioned that these people weren't humans but something else. Some sort of freaks. He had never encountered one of them, just stories told to either scare or excite children, which was illegal in itself. The government kept a tight lid on these matters. Col. Sebastian said something to the captain beside him, the captain in turn, yelled to the troop, "Hold your fire!!!"
Col. Sebastian was eager to see what these beings were capable of. He pulled out a PA system from the vehicle.
"I would advise that you do not come any further. Turn back and return to wherever you came from. If you do not heed this warning, I will order my men to open fire on you."
Col. Sebastian was hoping they'd be stubborn and keep coming. One of his men, an on field analyst, checked his laptop and reported that in ten seconds the first of the Ngamés would reach the force field. Col. Sebastian nodded and waited.
Someone got to the invisible wall and froze in mid stride. The scene was unbelievable. To an onlooker, the trapped man was frozen by something invisible except his facial expressions. His eyes were darting about wildly, and bulging out gradually as if he were being squeezed. A loud scream escaped from the man's mouth before he was comminuted. The wind blew tiny particles away from where the man was a few seconds ago. Similar scenes started happening all over. Ngamés were being trapped for a minute in the force field before disintegrating into pulverised particles and blown into the wind.
Everywhere except one place. Somewhere to the Colonel's right, people kept coming towards the army in a single file. Women, men, kids.
"Sir, over there." the captain pointed. The Col. looked and asked the Analyst,
"What's happening over there?"
"It appears they found an opening. That part of the force field is very weak, it is the only reason why they are able to get through." the Analyst answered.
"Close it"
"Negative sir. Cannot be done from here. Someone has to go do it manually, sir" the Analyst answered. Col. Sebastian spoke to the captain who never left his side.
"Cobra, focus assault on northeastern side!" the captain barked to the regiment. A section of the troop shifted their aim towards the Ngamés running in a single file.
"Open fire" the Colonel said coolly. The captain reechoed the order and the guns started firing. The first guide leading the way took three bullets before crumbling to the floor. The second was an Enforcer and he had some people running ahead of him. He quickly overtook them to the front but not before two more persons died. The Enforcer did his best to shield those running behind him with his body. Another guide shouted for everyone to spread out.
Dioha noticed that some few persons, who tried to spread out before getting to a tree that had a red marking on it, got caught in the force field. The Enforcer guide who had shielded the Ngamés front line with his body finally fell after taking in 23 shots. Dioha knew this was a waste of lives. They all wanted to enter the Human territory but not like this. They were already exposed, the humans were on guard, and if any Ngamé made it through this point, they would have to watch their backs all the time. On the other hand, he had a mission he dare not fail. He could try slipping away in the confusion, but there was just so much ground to cover. By now the death toll of the Ngamés had hit 46.
A bullet hit Dioha in the shoulder. This annoyed him coupled with the fact that Ngamés had not even dealt any damage to the humans. Dioha decided to show the cowardly humans, who hid behind weapons and machines, the meaning of true power.
Dioha tried activating his God Shield and surprisingly, it activated. He began running towards the humans at full speed. In a little less than a minute he would reach their front line. Col. Sebastian noticed someone coming directly towards them. This one was not trying to get away from the bullets. He was taking them head on and coming for blood. And, his speed. He was much faster than anyone could travel on legs. Faster than even his compatriots. The Colonel ordered a section of his troop to focus on Dioha and put him down. The guns began blazing yet Dioha kept coming undeterred as the bullets bounced off his God Shield. Someone decided to use a grenade on him. Missed. Before the next person could hurl his grenade Dioha had gotten to him. Dioha lifted him high into the air with an uppercut and into the midst of his colleagues. The pin less grenade in his hand exploded soon as he landed, killing six officers instantly. The explosion pushed Dioha back a bit. The Colonel ordered his troops to haul more grenades on Dioha on seeing what the explosion did. Two Enforcers, on seeing Dioha take on the army, decided to help out. They had no shield like Dioha. They simply relied on their tough bodies and regenerative abilities. Since Dioha was already proving to be a thorn, the assault of the army was more focused on Dioha hence the two Enforcers were able to get to the regiment and begin a mad brawl. They punched, kicked, and headbutted anyone they came in contact with. Some soldiers managed to get some shots off but the Enforcers just kept going like it was nothing. The only indication that the bullets affected them was the blood flowing freely from every fresh wound inflicted on them. Dioha on the other hand didn't even receive a scratch. An idea popped into the Colonel's head that made him smile. Few of his soldiers who saw this, grimaced. They knew their leader was up to no good.
