On the out side of the door to Lord Koga's office, Kita stood nervously, her heart rapidly fluttering in her chest. What could this Lord want with her? She had only just arrived and he already wished to speak with her?
Her mind raced at all the possible outcomes she could face, and she could feel her blood began to chill from within her own skin.
She lifted her delicate little hand and gently knocked on the large wooden door in front of her.
-Pat- pat- pat-
"You may enter." a deep mellow voice she didn't recognize rang out through the door. Even though they were just three words, there was an extremely powerful force about it. It was loud and clear, as if it came from right next to ears.
Come on Kita, you already came this far. Only cowards fear the unknown, and she was no coward!
She took a deep breath in, and entered the room with her shoulders back, and head held high. No matter what happens she would survive.
The room was slightly dimmed, and the walls were lined with several bookcases filled to the brim with books of all sizes, shape, and colors.
There was a faint smell of ink circulating in the air, giving the room a sophisticated atmosphere.
In the middle of the room, Kim Chou stood next to an empty large red chair, and across from it was a large oak wood desk covered with unkempt loose papers and opened books.
As soon as she crossed the doors threshold and entered the room, her line of sight was quickly drawn to the lone figure sitting behind the large oak desk.
He had long silver hair pulled back into a loose braid that gently hung down his right shoulder and ending at his hip. His face was almost inhumanely perfect. His deep piercing golden eyes seemed to be able to see threw anything, and had high cheekbones that highlighted his strong chiseled jaw.
The aura that surrounded him was other worldly, an overwhelming power excreted from his broad shoulders, making him extremely intimidating to her.
"Have a seat, Miss Kita. I have a few questions to ask of you." His voice boomed through the room, and quicky crawled down her spine, making her stomach flip in anticipation.
She silently nodded her head, and made quick work of finding her way to the large red chair infront of him. Her eyes briefly met Kim Chou's just long enough for him to give her one of his famous 'Its going to be okay' smiles, his face full of warmth and reassurance.
Her slinder body quietly sat down, and she elegantly crossed her ankles and simultaneously placed her hands in her lap. From the way she held herself she came across as a sophisticated young woman filled to the brim with beauty and elegance.
"What would Lord Koga like to know from this humble miss?" Her big almond eyes looked up at him calmly, hiding the turmoil she felt in side her heart.
His intense golden eyes bore into her soul, like he could see threw her completely. Her heart fluttered and sweat began to build on her forehead.
"Sir Kim, vacate the room at once." he waved his hand dismissively toward Kim Chou, making him panic.
"But, Lord Koga!" His face lit up with disapproval as he worried about his little young miss. Lord Koga could be terrifying even to him, let alone what it could be like for a young girl!
His protest was abruptly interrupted before he could say anything else by Lord Koga's booming voice,
"Now, Sir Kim."
Kim Chou's face went white, and he clenched his teeth tight. Without a word he balled his right hand into a first and hit his own chest in salute.
He gave Kita one last fleeting look and retreated from the room with long strides, Slamming the door behind him as his last show of protest.
Koga suddenly rummaged through one of the drawers and pulled out a white smudge stick. With a snap of his fingers, a small blue flame formed at the tip of his fingers. It lit the incense effortlessly, filling the room with a thick herbal scent.
Thick white smoke rolled off the smudge stick, and floated up to the ceiling. An acute sense of magic hung in the room.
"This is a silence stick. With this, no prying ears out side the room will be able to hear our conversation. Now.. tell me what you're really doing in my estate? " His eyes glossed over with a cold glint.
What does he mean by that? Sir Kim Chou brought her here. What other motivation could she possibly have to be here? She didn't intend to end up here at all. It was pure coincidence!
Her delicate face creased up in genuine confusion, her voice light but tinged with doubt.
"Sir Knight Kim found me and brought me here, I have no other motivation then to seek heaven. I have no interest in making trouble for my savior."
"Its pointless to lie, I could smell the stench of death on you the second you entered the estate. How many humans did you have to kill to get such a such a strong scent of blood to cling to you?" he leaned his elbow onto his desk, and cupped his chin with his hand, his face frosted over. His golden eyes showing no hints of what brewed in his mind.
How could he smell death on her from when she first entered the estate? She hadn't even been In the same room as him before this minute! The smell he spoke of must of been from the rampage her subconscious let loose on those humans back at the church. But how could he know?
Her skin turned as white as paper, and her blood ran cold.
What could she possibly say to appease him? No matter what she chose to say, she would undoubtedly be at fault. She could always spin a lie and try to deceive him, but what if he called her bluff?
She could simply tell him the truth, but that would be her confessing to mass murder. What Duke in his right mind would forgive the killing of his countrys people? Either way would most likely bring her to her own downfall.
He didn't seem the kind of man to be fooled by any kind of lie she could tell, no matter how skillfully she could tell it. She had no doubt those fierce golden eyes of his would see straight though her.
No man with intelligence would accuse someone without some kind of evidence to back up their claim. He had to of know something he wasn't saying, and wanted to catch her in a lie.
If she told the truth.. how could that possibly end well for her? Even if he didn't decide to kill her on the spot, there was no way she would get away from punishment. She killed dozens of men, not leaving a single soul alive.
She hated herself for what she had done to those men. She only wanted to escape, not become a murderer! She felt tricked by the voice in her head. Yes, it saved her life, but at what cost? Was her life really worth the life of dozens others? But what was done, was done. She could not go back into the past and change her wrong doings now.
Though it was forced upon them, they still gave her their lives in order for her to live, and if she died now then it would of been a waste of their sacrifices.
Her face took on a grimace, and her heart wavered from her inner conflict. She slowly released the breath that she had been subconsciously holding in her chest and found her resolve.
When it really came down to it, she already knew what she had to do. She met his intense stare with her own, resolve clearly seen on her face. Her sudden confidence in herself made her eyes radiant a faint purple glow.
No mater what was to come her way, she would survive.
"I killed a group of men that attempted to take my life. It was either kill or be killed, and I decided to kill."
"I see... if that's truly the case then I will no longer press the issue. I know all to well how violent humans can be when they are approached by the unknown."
It was such a subtle change, but his face seemed to lighten up. An almost unnoticeable smile hung at the end of his lips, and his eyes became alittle less intimidating.
He.. wasn't angry?
She had prepared herself for the worst possible outcome, and this was the extent of his wrath?
She was completely dumb struck! All that fear for nothing!
She parted her perfect pair of red lips, and her eyes became wide from being caught so off guard.
"You're.. not going to have me killed? I butchered those men!" her cute oval face slightly cocked to the side, and the disbelief exploded from from within her. Her voice shakey but loud.
Koga let out a light chuckle, finding her flustered expression quite entertaining.
"Why would I kill you? If I put every person to death for merely protecting themselves, then even I would of had to comit suicide a long time ago. I am no different from you in more ways then one."
What did he mean by that? He's no different from me in what ways?
She couldn't help but feel he had a hidden meaning behind his words.. it was almost like he knew something about her that even she didn't know.
"There's one thing I'd still like to know. Since when did the lower realm send their kind to the middle realm? You don't look like a soldier. " his strong brow lifted slightly, and his stare intensified.
Kita's heart began to race, and her expression noticeably improved. He knew about the lower realm where the demons supposedly live!
"Please tell me all you know about the lower realm and the demon race!"
He looked at her questionably.
"You don't even know about your own kind?"
She shook her ferociously back and forth, light filled her face from the idea of gaining some insight into her self and the lower realm.
"I woke up with no memories of who I am, or where I came from. I found myself in the middle realm, but I have no idea how I got here! Please, tell me everything you know!"
"Demonology isn't my expertise, but I can share what little I have gathered over the years.
Demons are a race of magical beings that dwell in what is called the lower realm. Their known for their extraordinary dark magic. Recently, a war between the realms have been raging against eachother. The Demon King has currently invaded the three of the ten kingdoms in our nation, leaving only seven kingdoms to fight against him." his words came out clearly and full of knowledge, almost like the war had nothing to do with him at all.
No wonder those humans tried to kill her on sight, there was a war going on.
"What caused the war?" her mind was running at full speed, eagerly absorbing all and any information he was willing to throw her way.
"The Demon king arranged a marriage between his daughter and this Kingdom's OverLord in order to have true peace between the realms, but they say the OverLord killed her before they said their vows."
"He killed his own fiance? I understand why he would seek revenge against the OverLord if that's the case, but why all of the ten kingdoms too? The human's didn't take her life, they should be spared!"
Rage built in her stomach. How could someone slaughter millions of people that had nothing to do with it? This Demon King must of been insane!
"I'm glad you feel that way, as my fiance it's only fitting we share the same ideals." his golden eyes light up playfully and a smirk spread across his lips.
Woah there. What did that beautiful man just say to me? His fiance? I was looking for a history lesson, not a husband!
Her delicate brows rose up, and her jaw dropped into her lap.
"Excuse me? I'm sorry, I must of miss heard you."
"What part did you miss hear?" his smirk seemed to darken. He was truly enjoying the faces this young miss made. It was like she couldn't hide her thoughts from her face. She was too honest for her own good.
She lightly coughed, as if to clear something out of her throat. Her face slightly pink, making her bashful expression almost too adorable for him to look at.
"You called me.. your fiance?"
Her face burned even redder from embarrassment of her own words. How could he make her say such a thing out loud! If he was teasing her, she didn't appreciate it in the slightest!
"How else should I refer to the woman promised to me?" His laugh echoed pleasantly through the room.
He thought he would have to go out and look for her, but instead she actually strolled up to his door all on her own. The red strings of fate must have their futures bound tightly together. How amusing!
Kita was utterly confused by this point. When was promised to him? Like hell she was, she just met the man! Hes just trying to take advantage of her lost memories!
"Lord Koga, though it is true I have no memories of my past, that doesnt give you permission to tease me like this." She gave him the sternest look her cute little oval face could produce. She wanted him to know she meant business, and wouldn't tolerate being made fun of.
Koga's smile only widened at her words. He looked at her in a whole new light.
So she's not a push over? How cute!
His eyes gazed tenderly into hers, and his voice came out riddled with subduction.
"You dont have to worry about your memory, it'll come back to you in time. Until it does, you have my word that I will restrain myself from touching you."
Touch me? How shameless could this man possibly be?! First he suprises her with a nonsense engagement, and now hes allready thinking about touching her body? This man must be insane!
Her allready crimson face turned an even brighter shade, and her almond eyes glossed over from the heat she felt. She parted her lips as if to say something, but then clasped them back shut as his roguish voice interrupted her train of thought.
"I shall announce your new status to the staff here shortly. Kim should still be waiting outside the door. He will show you to your room."
His smoldering stare left her eyes and refocused themselves to a few loose pieces of papers laying on his desk.
That was it? That's all this psycho had to say to her? He throws and unwanted engagement on her then kicks her out within the same breath? Truly shameless!
She could take a hint. Fine! She wasn't going to waste another breath on this crazy man!
Like a flash of pink lightning, Kita jumped to her feet and made a V-line for the door. She didn't even waste a single fleeting glance his way.
With a slam of the door behind her, she was gone. Leaving Koga alone with his thoughts.
His plans have steadily increased its speed after his adorable fiance showed up before schedule. He would have to make slight adjustments to his plan to make everything to go smoothly.
Another deep chuckle escaped from him as he thought back at how easy it was to tease his little Miss. He was going to enjoy his time with her undoubtedly.
