Chapter 73 - A Secret Club

Heron had promised the queen of Lumna knights. But he wasn't quite sure who exactly to send. He didn't want to send the older knights he grew up knowing – most of them were too old now to be traipsing through the wild lands. But honestly, other than Asrar he didn't know any of the younger knights and what they were capable of.

Well, those two a little. At least he knew their names. Those two who had come to his and Elswyth's aid. Their names had been Aklane and Kion right? He had needed to talk to them anyway.

Their conversation had been interrupted after all. And he did kinda want to know why they said the younger knights were all okay with magic.

He hoped that was actually true. It would provide him with a good base to start from. If he could get all the knights on his side…

Well, who would enforce the laws against magic?

Heron couldn't help the thrill of excitement.

He drummed his fingers against his father's desk as he thought about it and finally called for the two knights.

It took a few minutes but he soon had the two seated before him. He stared at the two brothers for a moment over his father's desk and once again noted how similar they looked. Practically identical. Though Aklane struck him as a bit more serious in attitude.

Finally Heron broke the silence, "So. About the other day when you two saw my perform magic…"

Kion clasped his hands, "It was marvelous. Don't worry we haven't been spreading it."

"You said that the other knights your age were all okay with magic? May I ask if that is true?"

Again they shared a look, then Aklane spoke slowly, "It is. We love our kingdom and all but the laws on magic rub us the wrong way. There are exceptions to those of us who are in the little magic loving club."

"Is that an actual club or…?"

"Well, we have a club but we don't call it that. Anyway. Almost all the knights our age or younger have decided magic isn't a bad thing."

Heron nodded, he found himself trusting these two as telling the truth. There was really no faking the sparkles in Kion's eyes.

"Alright. Then." Heron smiled, "How would you two like to help me organize this club of yours to help me lay the foundation for changing our nation? I plan on making magic legal. Would that suit your club?"

"Yes." They both said in unison. "Very much so."

They seemed relieved in some way. Heron also asked them to make him a chart of the strongest knights in the kingdom before waving them away.

As they stood up to leave he had them pause and asked out of curiosity, "So what is this club called?"

They were silent for a moment, then Aklane said with an almost embarrassed smile, "K. F. C. P. A. We meet once a month usually." He did not explain what the acronym meant.

The two left quickly and Heron went back to work. He did wonder if maybe he should attend one of their meetings. He figured he would be working closely with them after this. So maybe he should get to know what they actually did at their meetings.

Also how long had this club been around? He'd never heard of it before…

Well. He was sure he'd find out more soon enough. Right now he needed to focus on filling his father's shoes.

It wasn't very exciting doing paperwork but it needed done. And he was the only one to do it right now. Thus, there was no point dragging feet or complaining. Get it done, keep the kingdom running as smoothly as possible during a crisis.

Besides, if he could show himself responsible he would earn a good reputation – necessary for his plans to succeed.
