Honestly, Elswyth lowkey hoped they never figured out how to remove this. The fact that he literally could not go a certain distance from her was highly satisfying. Made her job of taking care of him easier if he was incapable of running off.
Plus it would give her a huge reasonable excuse for following him back to Amriel, which she already totally planned on doing. But this would give her an excuse without being too pushy. She did not find this inconvenient at all!
Afterall, she would gladly follow him around for the rest of her life. She'd already made up her mind that she didn't care he was a prince, she wanted to be his wife someday. She would have already even told him that except for one thing…his age. He was too young no matter how she looked at it. Especially with their age difference. It would have probably creeped him out if she tried right now to start a relationship with him. She needed to wait a few years and let him grow up so the difference in their ages wasn't as noticeable.
She did not say any of this. At all. Though she would not be surprised if Kur at least had suspicions of what she was thinking. She did not miss the way the wizard's eyes sparkled as if enjoying this situation in some way. She was not entirely sure why Kur seemed interested in their relationship but he was on her side so she didn't care.
She found Kur better than others who could claim nobility so he didn't irk her. In fact she was somewhat happy he approved of a match between her and Heron. Especially since Heron valued Kur so that made her more likely to be able to get Heron if his other friends liked the match. Not that that was all that was needed, it was most important to get Heron's approval.
She was glad that this stupid testing thing was over. Now they couldn't tell her to leave his side like that again. It wasn't that he couldn't protect himself, he could – better every day. It was just…she wanted to stick by his side. Both because she just wanted to be by him. And because she wanted to help keep him safe. After all, no matter how capable he was slowly becoming, there were still instances were he would need that extra guardian. Every one sometimes needed someone else to have their back. Just another person who could stop a stray blow.
She kept these thoughts to herself as Heron and Kur talked together. She just sat beside her wizard and watched his face out of the corner of her eye. The two wizards were still discussing what to look for in their research. These two…seriously the both of them were rather engrossed with books.
At least her Heron wasn't quite as bad. And there was a certain enjoyment she got from watching how happy he looked just poring over books. She didn't quite understand the appeal, but she understood that he liked it. And she liked seeing him do something he enjoyed.
It wasn't that she was illiterate. Well, reading and writing wasn't her strong suit but she did know her letters. It was a bit rusty and hardly used and her vocabulary wasn't as good but for her birth status just the fact she knew her letters was already pretty good.
And she'd gotten better due to reading to ty to help Heron out. She hoped he didn't notice how much she struggled with these large tomes. Most of her prior reading practice had been bounties and whatnot. Nothing like all these technical tomes on magic. These books got complicated, and her vocabulary wasn't that good.
Ah, but Heron wouldn't judge her on that. His heart was too kind, and he would be understanding that she just wasn't a bookish sort of girl.
She grinned happily to herself, not paying any attention to the conversation. She was in her own little world, daydreaming about her hopes for the future.
