Chapter 577 - I Am Mane Harbinger: XXIII

Crystal sped towards the Origin King with her cold gaze fixed on him. She waved her hands before her in circles and ordered Chaos to do her dirty work. And it did oblige.

*Twirp*

A large tree root sprouted from the ground and threatened to wind itself around the Origin King, prompting the latter to hastily call upon the winds of change and blast his way out of the encampment.

"Hah!"

With a strong bellow Ancestor Origin summoned several wind blades, each as large as a truck, and tore his way out of the tree root. Although the tree was sturdy, it couldn't withstand this damage and collapsed.

Ancestor Origin's eyes were filled with dread, but even greater than that dread was a fury that was birthed from his helplessness. He was stronger than the woman who besieged him, but he could only retreat under her pressure. And this infuriated him. However, even in his fury he could still see clearly. His opponent was making it difficult for him to escape. He hadn't even found an opening to make his exit yet. His chances of escaping were very slim so he had to fight back. He had to be smart about this otherwise he would lose. He couldn't constantly retreat. He had to attack. And that he did.

Taking a deep breath, Ancestor Origin summoned what little wind elements he could under the suppression of the Chaos Witch. And with a resolute stamp, he pushed them into a tumultuous state.

*Bang*

Several wind blades battered the ground and softened the earth beneath it, and the winds carried sand and stone into the air. In next to no time a powerful tornado covered the entire battlefield, with stone and sand obscuring the vision of the Chaos Witch.

The Chaos Witch frowned at the sudden distraction. At her level, resisting the pull from a tornado was nothing difficult. Even under normal circumstances she would have been able to do that fairly easily. But obviously the Origin King knew this. And that was why she knew that this was only a distraction. She had to admit that this was a brilliant way to deal with her. Unlike Ancestor Origin, her eyesight was nothing to boast of and a situation like this was very unfavorable for her. But that was only under normal circumstances. These were abnormal times and they had been made so because of the forbidden power she had tapped into. She didn't need to see Ancestor Origin to be a menace to the Origin King. No, she only needed to cause large scale destruction.

"Break"

With a soft whisper, the storm that Ancestor origin had summoned was gone. It just stopped. Without any hesitation it ceased its bickering and dissipated. And without sand and stone blocking her vision, she was able to see – clearly. Her eyes caught sight of Ancestor Origin pretty easily, for he was not intending to be hidden. His presence came as a bit of surprise to Crystal who had assumed that he would use this chance to make an attempt to escape – or conceal himself for a decisive blow. The Origin King did neither. And though his presence did surprise her, it was what he was cooking up that stunned her more.

"So that's what you were planning," Crystal frowned.

For only a few hundred meters away from her was her target. Ancestor Origin had his hands outstretched, his power concentrated in the air above him. And it was there that Crystal's surprise was born from. Above the first known King of the True Universe were several large winds blades, each as long and as wide as a small city. Crystal could smell the strength of each wind blade from where she stood, and she was painfully reminded that even a wounded tiger was still a tiger. Clearly, Ancestor Origin had realised that since he was slower than her now, direct physical confrontation will yield no positive results. For a swift enemy could easily ignore every attack. So he opted for a wide area attack that could do much damage. While she didn't know how much of his energy this move had chewed up, she was willing to bet that it would be more than half of his full power! That was how much the Origin King was willing to do for her head.

"Say hi to the Reaper for me," Ancestor Origin smiled and let go of the wind blades.

*Huuu*

With a loud groan the wind blades flew towards Crystal, their speed similar to a falcon in full throttle. For though they were large and vast, they were made of wind. And in less than a second after Ancestor Origin's permission was given for their reckless charge, they were upon Crystal.

*Boom*

*Boom*

*Boom*

Ancestor Origin collapsed onto the ground in a heap shortly after using such a wide scale attack. Even for him, such power came at a cost. He was dizzy for a few seconds and had a small headache to contend with. But he was soon capable enough to stand. His eyes sharply analysed the damage he had caused. Although obscured by dust, the damaged battlefield couldn't escape Ancestor Origin's eyes.

The wind blades had created a canyon several thousands of meters deep and a hundred meters wide. Cracks dominated the area and pits that were large enough to fit a small house littered the place. But the damage wasn't what Ancestor Origin was looking for. He sought any remnants of Crystal. But there was nothing.

"It seems I went overboard," Ancestor Origin smirked as he dragged his tired legs across the land. Mane's body was somewhere out there. Ancestor Origin just had to find it. His battle with Crystal had taken him away from the boy so it would be a bit tricky – but not impossible. Ancestor Origin deduced that Mane may be a kilometer or so away from this place – to the West. So he moved in that direction. And for the first time since his elevation to the status of Ancestor, a thousand meters sounded like an impossible task.

But the Origin King hadn't walked even a meter when a powerful aura sprang up from behind him, and his expression changed. A bitter smile replaced his tired smirk. For he recognised the aura that besieged him. He turned his weary body to face his current adversary as he summoned the little bit of strength he had to fight back.

"That was close," Crystal secretly wiped the sweat from her forehead, her countenance still a bit grim from how close she had come to failing her Lord. Ancestor Origin's attack was a disastrous one. But luckily for Crystal, she had a defense Lease that bailed her out. And she had been able to escape her certain death. However now that she had, she was eager to repay the favor.

Crystal had attacked in a variety of ways since the battle started. But none of those attacks was meant to be the main attraction here. You see, no show started with the main event. There were other, minor displays that took centre stage and elevated the curiosity of the mind – making it eager to see what was to come – before the main event would occur. The tree roots were not the main events. They were like the opening exhibit. Now it was time for the main thing.

Crystal's figure flashed continuously as she approached the Origin King. Although her destination could easily be predicted for she sought the head of the former King of Artefacts, her path was trickery and difficult to discern. She had turned the predictable into an unpredictable. And though the eyes of the Origin King roamed the battlefield in search of her, not even the Eyes of Destruction could correctly divine her path. Crystal kept moving. She kept dancing around the Origin King without really making any moves, and each time she retreated, the anxiety of the Origin King grew. He didn't know how much longer the Eternal could maintain this level of stubbornness, but he wasn't willing to find out. Unfortunately, with his strength held in the hands of the Selfish Titan King he was like a captive. And his will didn't matter. After a few more seconds of approaching and retreating, Crystal finally did something.

"Gather in the wind, and shatter!"

Crystal gestured towards Ancestor Origin with a cold glow in her eyes as Chaos threatened to flatten the vicinity and if not contained, the entire planet. With a howl that was just as potent as that of the World Destroying Wolf, a bright spear of light appeared before Crystal.

"That is…" Ancestor Origin's eyes widened in fear when he saw the spear. He seemed to recognise what that weapon was, but he didn't have the opportunity to mention its name. For no sooner had it appeared than it was sent towards him. Like with a flickering candle, the spear easily exceeded the speed of light and bore a large hole through his chest, shattering his heart and lungs. As he fell to the ground, with his vitality escaping his fragile body, he could hear the cold words of the one who had decided his fate.

"You asked me to send my regards to the Grim Reaper for you. Well, now you can send them yourself."
