Chapter 8

Author's PoV

At Yuvika's building.

Anna walked through the moderately luxurious lobby of her best friend, Yuvika's building and walked into one of the two elevators side to side. She pressed a button and waited until a ding was heard as she looked up to view the digital floor indicater, reading 18th floor. She got out of the floor and turned towards her left to the 3 flats on the floor. She stood in front of the middle door and ringed the doorbell and waited.

The door opened to reveal a beautiful figure looking at Anna.

"Hey!" The figure said

"Hi Yuvika." Anna replied and hugged her best friend. When she pulled away, she held back a tear that threatened to form.

"Are you okay?" Asked Yuvika.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just too much on my plate, you know." I reply to her. She pulled me back into her embrace and said "I'm here for you."

"I know you are." I replied.

But you really shouldn't be. I want to be alone and lonely again in order to not feel vulnerable and breakable. Anna thought. Control your thoughts Anna. You don't want to lose this friend as well. She thought to herself.

"Wait. Come inside, I got something for you." Yuvika said to Anna.

"What? I don't need anything. In fact, I don't want anything right now." Anna replied, stressing on the word want.

"You may not want it but you need it." Yuvika said.

There's nothing I need more than money right now. Anna thought.

She went inside anyways. As they went inside the house, Anna folles Yuvika into one of the three bedrooms. Yuvika leads her to sit on the chair of her study table. She took a seat there and waited as Yuvika went to her cupboard and took out a brown envelope. She came to where Anna was sitting and handed the packet to her. Anna thought for a while and hesitated to take the envelope from her hand but finally took it. She took a look at the contentS filling the envelope. She was shocked to see a bunch of notes. 500 rupees notes.

She looked at Yuvika with a bewildered look in her eyes. She could just not accept the fact that luck had decided to help her a bit. Still, she couldn't accept all the money. She just couldn't. She didn't the need to feel broken again.

"I'm really sorry Yuvi but I can't accept this money." Anna said.

"Yes you can Anna. It's not even a huge sum. It's just 10,000 rupees. And I'm not giving it to you. Just lending it."

"Whatever it may be Yuvi, but I still can't accept it. You know I can't."

"If you don't accept it, you have to tell me right away your plan to earn the money, since you can't exactly access to your account right now."

"Well, I'll just look up some part-time job for an unqualified person." Anna said but later completed the statement in her mind. Which was near to impossible.

"Okay fine. But if you need money and don't get a job, please don't hesitate to ask me for money."

"You talk as if you are rich."

"I may not be rich but am wealthier than you and have parents whom I can ask for money." Yuvika replied.

The mention of a certain word triggered a particular expression on Anna's face. Her eyes looked down to the floor and her brow flinched as it had when she had just heard about her mother's tragic news of being in coma. She went into a deep thought about her mother, her beauty, her laugh, her smile, her voice which she so craved.

Anna blinks as Yuvika snaps a finger in front of her face, bringing her out of her flashback and into the reality.

"Huh? What were you saying? I'm sorry. I was just..."

Yuvika huffs before speaking,"I'm really sorry Sia, I didn't mean that at all. I mean, my parents are your parents too, right. You can always borrow some money from them. They love you, just like me. What's wrong in borrowing some money from your parents. Please just..."

Anna cut through her saying,"I know Yuvi, but I really can't accept this money. I already told you my plan right. Rest assured. I'll be fine." Anna says, assuring Yuvika that she'll be fine.

...More like reassuring herself.
