Chapter 1 - A Dire Situation

How can a large city become such a small world? Many people don't realize how small the world really is. Well I do because I have seen it first hand. I lived a normal life. I worked at a cafe shop just down the road from where I lived. I tried doing anything I can to help my family since we were a family of very little. I would go to work and come back home to tend to the house and my parents. I didn't mind it at all. I never found myself in boredom because I always had something to do. Although no matter how hard I tried things with my family got tighter. Especially when my father grew sick with lunge cancer. I couldn't pay for his medical bills. I even tried taking on another job, but it still wasn't enough. Not by a long shot. I would go to the hospital where my father was staying. I could see many people coming to visit him. My father was someone who loves to give things and doesn't expect anything in return. One of his friends was in need of help and in return he would pay for my fathers medical bills. Whatever this man was asking my father didn't like it. I could hear them arguing so I listened close to the door. I hear an old rustic voice explaining to my father, "we are both going through hard times. An arrangement would be the perfect solution. You know I come from a well off company. My son is about to inherit the company you see. He is a good boy, but rumors go around him defacing him. Having a women by his side would benefit both of us together. You do this for me and I will make sure that your medical expenses are paid and I will help your living situation as well. I can't bare to see you like this. Your my dear friend and colligue. " I listen as my father responds to him with such a powerful tone, "it is true that we have been through many troubles in our past and I don't doubt that your son is a good boy. However, I can't just simply sell off my daughter. I would never force that upon my daughter. Not for all the money in the world would I do that to her. " Tears swell from my eyes. My father would choose me over himself, but if he doesn't get any treatment he will die. I don't think I can handle that. I want to help in any way I can no matter what the cost is. I am here because of my father. If it wasn't for his efforts I would have been dead by now. Without waiting for a response from the man asking my father for an arrangement I barge in the room with confidence. "Father you don't have to worry about anything. I will agree to the arrangement if it will help you get better along with our situation. " My father raises in fury, "ABSOLUTELY NOT! " I stand up to him without fear. "Think about it if you don't get medical help... I'll lose you. And what do you think that would do to mother and I. You know mom has a weak heart. If you die what will happen to her health next. I am a grown women now. I have no relationships and I am doing this out of my own free will. Your not forcing me to do this. So, please it's ok." I see my father feels uneasy so I give him a hug in reassurance. He looks at me sincerely, "you know if you do this you will be married to someone who you do not know. I want you to be happy and I don't want you to end up regretting. " I look at my father with a smile, "I'll be fine trust me. If I know that you and mom are ok I could never regret anything. " I turn to the boss like man, "is it still ok to set the arrangement. " The man nodded his head yes. "We can discuss the details later if you want." I give another hug to my father. "You should get some rest now. I'll go and handle everything. " He is so weak and tired he just nods his head and falls to sleep. The man and I walk out of the room and we go to a good coffee shot to discuss the matter.
