After Anise finished explaining The Biotonic Rings, she urged them towards the Registration Office.
"I can't keep you guys company any longer, but I'm sure we'll meet later on. Good luck!." And with that, she was gone.
Daniel and Adora glanced at each other before heading to the registration office. The walk was only a few minutes, but the two boys took their time as they took in the sights of their new home.
'I feel like it might be my imagination, but the colors here are so vibrant compared to Earth's, it's almost as if I had previously observed the world through a grey filter.' Daniel continued his walk as he observed the three different terrains in front of him.
"Daniel, can I ask you a question?" Adora spoke up after moments of contemplation. He had finally worked up the courage to ask.
"What's up?" Daniel tore his eyes from the horizon and gazed at Adora calmly.
Daniel has always had a habit of holding eye contact, thus Adora looked straight back at him. And within those eyes, Adora could almost feel a gravitational pull, as if he would be consumed by the sheer curiosity within those eyes.
"Why were you so gloomy in the middle of Anise's explanation?"
"Ah, that. I was feeling extremely homesick." Daniel looked down at the black cobblestone road as they continued to walk.
"Home sick? But you looked so lonely. Did you lose them?" Adora asked in concern and sympathy. For he too had lost his family and home to the beast tides.
"Yes and no, it's a little complicated but to put it simply, I have no way of knowing my way back to them. At least not now." Daniel felt a pang of strong emotions in his chest.
Adora stayed silent, as a highly empathic individual he could almost see the piercing emotion that stabbed into Daniel's heart.
"But.. I thought you had amnesia?" Adora raised an eyebrow as he inquired.
"It's a lie, I simply don't want to tell every Dick, Tom, or Harry about my life." Daniel frowned and looked at Adora with a serious gaze.
"Oh, I understand. I apologize if I've offended you, Mr. Daniel." Adora bowed.
They both stopped walking as Daniel looked at Adora.
"Listen, dude. I don't want to have a formal barrier between us, it feels weird. Just be yourself around me and everything will be just fine. If we have a disagreement, it ain't the end of the world." Daniel smiled as he grabbed Adora's shoulders in order to raise him up.
Adora felt a warmth spread from his heart. 'I've finally found a friend!' Adora smiled and hugged Daniel.
Daniel simply stood there and waited for Adora to pull back. After a few moments passed, Adora was still clinging on to him.
"Alright, Alright! Get off me punk, let's go" Daniel managed to tear off the over estactic accessory before continuing his small walk towards registration office.
Once they arrived, they were greeted warmly by the receptionist. A young boy with green eyes and brown hair.
"HI! Are you here to register?" The boy offered a sincere but toothless grin.
"Yes, I'm Daniel and this here is Adora. What's your name little dude?" Daniel smiled back at the kid as he witnessed his adorable seriousness.
"My name is Morrie, nice to meet you. Let me get my teacher and he'll complete the process!" After the boy spoke, he jumped down from his little stool and walked towards a door located just behind him. When he opened it, the room was pitch black. Daniel only got a quick glimpse because the door closed just as quickly.
'Hmm..' Daniel walked around the little stall and noticed that it couldn't have possibly had the space for a separate room.
'What the heck.' Daniel started walking back but was slightly startled as a deep monotone voice spoke up.
"Being overly curious isn't necessarily a good thing, young one."
Daniel turned to look back at an old man with grey hairs and wrinkles. Yet, the aging of time couldn't hide his good looks. With silver eyes, he looked at the young boy who attempted to snoop.
"Tch, don't act all righteous when you have simply lost the fire of curiosity within you." Daniel smiled as he spoke politely.
The old man smirked. "Boy, have you ever heard of the saying 'Curiosity killed the cat'?"
"Since when are we cats, old man?" Daniel retorted.
"Why be so unyielding, boy? You aren't a noble, yet you have an arrogance that wouldn't lose out to them." The Old man chuckled as his interest towards the boy was peaked.
"Thanks for the compliment, I simply have my philosophies to follow; principles that govern my morales, and values that give this tragic life meaning. I won't simply let some strange crusty-musty old man tell me my values are of fatal consequence." Daniel stared at the man honestly and seriously.
The Old Man and the young boy held their mouths agape.
