20.
They said that people born in the darkest hour of the night are somehow cursed. I have no idea if it was day or night, the day I was born. Something I knew for sure, I killed Mom. I was a bad omen to this family, I tore Jacob from his own clan. Created a ripple so vast that it can't be mended. I knew I was cursed—unwanted, whatever Mom may say. This knowledge was branded in my own flesh.
I twitched all through the third movie and couldn't focus at all. Mom and Aunt Alice ignored my restlessness. They were good actors. I know I was the one who wanted this. I played around in the bowl of popcorn sitting on my lap as I munched on a few. I sighed as the credit rolled and yawned pretending to be tired.
"Guys I'm beat," I placed the popcorn on the low coffee table. Mom rose an eyebrow at me.
"It's not even seven," she pursed her lips.
"Mom, we watched 3 movies in a row. Are you trying to kill me with an overdose of rom-com?" Aunt Alice giggled beside her. Such a musical sound, something only Aunt Alice could produce.
"She's getting a mouth of her own. I wonder where she got that from?" she stared at Mom who averted her eyes.
"Hey, I was never sassy," she got to her feet. Yeah, I confirm. Mom was everything but a smart mouth. When I made my way to the stairs Mom followed me. "What about dinner?"
"I've already got too much to eat. Do you want to get me fat?" I paused on the first step. I really didn't want Mom to follow me to my room, I wouldn't be able to get rid of her. And I needed to speak to Jacob before Dad come back and change his mind and decide to take my new phone away.
"You're sure? 'Cause eating sugary stuff is not healthy," she frowned.
"Said the one on a blood diet," I just couldn't help shut up my mouth. She sighed.
"If you're hungry, the fridge is full. You can get up and make yourself a sandwich, ok," I nodded with a smile. She turned around and I listened as she and Aunt Alice went to the porch. The door closed behind them as they whispered. I lost no time and hurried to my room. I locked my door behind me.
"Jacob?" I whispered.
