Chereads / Another Kind of Evil / Chapter 16 - ...In My Absence 1

Chapter 16 - ...In My Absence 1

The sun rose from the east.

Miguel who had been sleeping against a bank, near a rough flowing river, opened his eyes. He was feeling a little emotional.

Life in the village was simple, growing up here was nice. Adulthood, however, came by and changed everything. Miguel wanted more out of life and staying in the village felt like a cage holding him down.

At the time Miguel was just too enthusiastic, feelings of not belonging here filled his heart. The villagers thought he was just experiencing a phase but surprisingly, Miguel did indeed leave. It wasn't that Miguel was the sole person who wanted to leave, rather, leaving was rare.

Everything was provided at the village, food, shelter... eventually getting married. What more could anyone want? Leaving the village was indeed rare.

Miguel who slept on the dirt blinked his eyes again, he felt weight on his chest. He lowered his gaze to see the situation and there he found the silly elven girl cuddled up against him.

Her head rested directly on his chest, one slender arm crossed over him. Lydia appeared to be holding on tightly. Miguel tried to move a little and realized the priestess had a leg stationed between both of his. Not only that, Miguel had one arm around her back, reaching quite low in comparison to her short stature.

Minerva's chosen, after contemplating whether he should feel up this girl, slid his hand over the material to meet Lydia's soft cheeks at her rear end. The only thing that separated his touch from her flesh was the cloak he gave her. Miguel firmly squeezed her jelly buns, the softness sent him thrills of pleasure.

Lydia's slept comfortably against Miguel, originally she was sleeping next to the man but somehow she brought herself to Miguel.

"Mm!" Lydia jerked her hips.

While sleeping, the kneading of her butt continued, there was no way for her to not have a reaction. Lydia wasn't the only one with a reaction, Miguel had one too. His shaft hardened under the pleasure of incredible softness, merely, he couldn't do anything at the moment. Right now, Miguel had the swamp elven girl's leg weighing over his crotch.

Suddenly, she cuddled up to him even more. The short, smooth leg between Miguel's bent up. As Lydia's leg folded over Miguel's abdomen, her foot met a bump. That bump just so happened to be the hidden length in Miguel's pants.

"Uh..."

Lydia, who seems to be half asleep and half awake, felt awkward. She started feel up the Champ's private, rubbing her foot against the bump up and down. The swamp elf made a lazy attempt to understand what that was, on the other hand, Miguel felt it to be quite nice.

"AHHH!"

The swamp chief's daughter bolted upright, somehow Lydia seemed to understand something.

Lydia started to move away from her cuddle buddy but Miguel called out casually.

"Are you okay?"

"I... I'm fine, just- just a nightmare. N-nothing to worry about," Lydia sharply replied. She almost stumbled over her words, though.

Miguel enjoyed being a little naughty with the petite elf. Now that she was fully awake, it's about time for him to get up also.

He looked at Lydia and smiled, 'She didn't notice my hand on her ass, or maybe... she's playing dumb.'

While the elf priestess was gathering herself up after awakening, Miguel approached the edge of the river. He wanted to wash his face before moving along.

Lydia noticed him and followed suit. Soon after, they both journeyed. Although they where closer to the village now, it was still quite a walk. Having a village to close to the river, to close to the Crypt forest wasn't wise. No one wants to attract danger to themselves.

The duo climbed over hills, trekked through grass fields and even seen a number of minor animals that had no relation with demonic beasts..

When other people came into view, Miguel and Lydia knew that they where very close to the village.

Miguel, just like Lydia, wore a cloak but he left his face revealed. He had no intention of hiding his identity here. Miguel also left his face open for others to see because he had no intention to disturb the peaceful minds by acting mysterious. The men in the village would've probably gathered together and attacked, at least questioned his intention.

"Lydia, you can remove the hood over your head," said Miguel. Seeing the elf wearing it, reminded him that she had been wearing the cloak the whole day since yesterday. He even sent her around to do some shopping, that is, to buy lunch and other rations.

Lydia replied, "Okay."

Her voice was sweet, Miguel appreciated it. Hearing sweetness this early in the morning made his mood elated.

The village was nearby. Both Lydia and Miguel had seen a few men head out. They were carrying weapons for hunting. That was natural, sometimes predators would have courage to stroll over to the village.

When Miguel came, just at the edge of the village, some of it's residence had eyed him with suspicion. Yet, none approached him.

Miguel came up to one elderly man. The old man wasn't someone he recognized. Then again, Miguel may very well know who the guy is, only time has changed him.

"Good morning sir."

The geezer had a garden outside of his house. There, the old man, did his business. A variety of vegetation grew, when the old man heard the greeting, he shook in surprise.

"Argh!"

The old man jumped up, naturally, he was surprised. Firstly, he didn't expect himself to meet anyone at this time and secondly, he was absorbed in his crop maintenance.

He stared at the two. Immediately he became weary. It wasn't ordinary for people to come here unless they were here to meet the village chief.

"Ai, can I help you lad," asked the old man.

Miguel answered, "We just left the Crypt forest, while on our way, we found this place. There's nothing worry about, my friend and I are just passing through."

"Is it?"

"Grandpa, grandpa, breakfast is ready."

"Oh ho, I'm coming," said the old man. From the house a young boy came over, running.

The old man turned back, it appeared that he was going to leave. He turned back to Miguel and Lydia and said, "Do you want join us for breakfast?"

"Sure, why not?" Miguel replied.

The old man turned to the kid and held the child's hand. He lead the way back to his home, Miguel followed quietly with Lydia right behind him.

This place was very new to Lydia, she stayed close to Miguel as possible. Her fingers caught hold of the coat Miguel wore.

After some time.

Four people sat at a table, Miguel and Lydia sat together and the old man was at the head. On his lap was his grandson.

They were all downing porridge.

Miguel was on his second bowl, he enjoyed it at it had been sweetened nicely. Next to him, Lydia was taking her time. She admitted to not having tasted such a thing before. It was uncommon it in the marshland's.

In the time that they were eating, Miguel got to learn some things. The old man's name was Sagren.

Miguel learned about the village situation, like how the village head changed. Tax that the entire village paid was now increased. The villagers together would pay Kryonite but now, separate tax had to be given to the head of the village. At least the mayor of Kryonite offered protection, what did this new village head offer? Nothing!

Miguel nodded his head in understanding but on the inside he felt upset. He didn't show it, Miguel knew that the current chief of the village is corrupt official. Minerva's champion decided to pay the village head a visit. It was obviously thinking about making things easier for his sister and helping out the village was a good bonus.

Suddenly, the trotting of horses could be heard.

Miguel looked at the old man. Sagren had a solemn look. Getting off his seat and placing his grandson on the chair, he left the room.

"Did something happen?" Lydia asked curiously, she also sensed the change in mood.

Miguel stated, "Seems like no one likes the ruler of this place."

Miguel continued with his eating, at the same time he spread out his sensory ability from 'Life Gutter'.

He picked up the life forces of the new comers. Miguel didn't act, it wasn't his place to do anything just yet. Almost immediately one of the life forces moved away. Just from his hearing alone, it seemed that a carriage was being pulled. Where was it heading next?

Miguel wanted to check the situation with his sister, his plan was to head there after leaving this place. Miguel would've headed there first but since he was invited for breakfast, why not enjoy the good company.

After some time, Sagren, the old man came back. He did indeed have a solemn look but when saw his guests, he smiled.

"Phew! Now I don't have to see those monkeys faces the rest of the month," said the old man.
