Chapter 28 - EMERGENCY MEETING (5)

"Anyway going back with the hospital's situation, I understand your frustration Jaden but by the end of the day the hospital is still a business and we need to make some profit to keep it running." The old Rhodes stated.

"I know that but isn't it too much? I'm still getting the hang of how healthcare works in this country and it could be frustrating how bad it could get especially for the lower income citizens."

Jin looked at how conflicted Jaden is, while it could be said that this country is one of the top leading countries in the world economically speaking, but when it comes to healthcare, it's entirely something else. Having the advanced technology as well as lead specialists in their fields sure comes with a great price leading to exclusiveness where high earning income individuals are the only ones who could actually afford the services.

"Grandpa you're one of the highest shareholders, could you like, do something?" Jaden asked his grandfather.

"Well while I'm one of the largest shareholders, there's only so much that I could do. I know for a fact that the previous owner has been trying to work with the government to do some revisions about the government insurance policy to make it more affordable for the low income families as well as to broaden the scope of it but things were put to a standstill after the new owner took over." Their grandfather explains.

"We're also trying to reach out with some charities, both government and private sectors, to work with us but they were skeptical. It seems that they don't trust the hospital's internal operation, and with that being said a lot of them don't want to associate with the hospital. This is the main reason why we ask you to continue your residency here and have a look at how things are inside." Dr. Isaic continued.

With this Jaden started to mention the problems that he observed as well as learned from his coworkers. Starting with the one that present the most problem.

Hospital politics isn't far from government politics and this is actually one of the most toxic one that Jaden have seen so far. It also doesn't help the fact that the government itself is trying to assert dominance with some connections inside despite the hospital being a private one.

Nepotism isn't uncommon even in the medical field but the hospital's situation is worse to the point where it affects its credibility. High esteemed individuals and people with actual potential are being let go in favor for some doctors who came from a well off family or from a well known medical heritage.

Understaffing in some sections caused by uneven distribution of resources and budgets being provided is also a huge problem. The overpricing of some procedures and the list goes on.

"Things change after the new owner took over and it doesn't help that a certain shareholder is trying to exert some dominance. Right now he has almost half of the rest of the shareholders at his side. With some being neutral during the last annual meeting we lost the voting with a large margin thus the changes in the hospital policy." The old Rhodes explain.

"Father you've said "he", you know him." Selene catches the certainty in her old man's voice.

"Hanamiya Jun, he owes an investment company in country ***** and after conducting some investigation it seems like he has the backing of a yakuza group."

"I'm having a headache…" Hanna has to rub her head, it's bad enough that they are dealing with whoever attacked them eight years ago now they have to deal with the Yakuza as well.

"So we can't touch them then?" Jazz wondered, they've dealt with yakuza's before so what's the difference this time around.

"Technically we can but then again, this region is under Ellison's territory. The ones we've dealt with were within our clan's territory thus it's fine for us to deal with them. We can't take any action just like that now, they may interpret this as an invasion or declaration of war, worst we could be mistaken as the organizations mole. The yakuza's in country ***** is their responsibility and if we touch one of them without their permission this will be a direct violation of the 5th decree."

"Then let's not touch them." Julian spoke after a momentary silence.

"You have something in mind." It's not a question but a statement. Selene might not have been around her nephews and nieces the last few years but the look she saw from Julian is a look she's seen multiple times from her father and late younger brother when they have a plan, one that one could not be trifle with.

"We'll just have to take over the hospital." Julian simply said.

"How? I mean we can't just buy the shares of the other investors, can we?" Jazz looked at his cousin trying to comprehend what he came up with. What she and Jin did was easy as the shareholder is already planning to let go of the share due to retirement but this is an entirely different situation, especially here in the Capital where every business opportunity is a mine of diamond.

The old Rhodes just studied his grandchild, wondering just when he became a power to be reckoned with. Even he is scared at how fast he seems to mature being the next family head.

Julian only shrugged and eyed his younger sister and cousins. "I'm going to need your help though, I could have executed my plan on my own but I have my hands full right now dealing with Johnson's situation."

"You don't need ours?" Nathe asked his son.

"I know you're all busy. You, with the law firm, uncle Isaic being the hospital's director, mom and aunt Hanna with the main company, aunt Sel with Emperium and of course grandpa with his duty within the high monarch."

The elders could not dispute him about this, for it is true they are all busy dealing with their own responsibilities.

"So what's your grand plan then?" Jin asked her brother after studying him for some time.

Julian smirk and man, the rest wish Jin didn't ask the damn question.
