Chapter 85 - Chapter 85

Smiling to these little children Tony says, "Master Ip Man, let's hurry back now."

Now that the children are freed the red dots all over Ma's body quickly dissapeared.

Ma was filled with hatred seeing the back figure of Ip Man and Tony leaving, due to the humiliation he has caused for him in front of his gang.

Reaching under his red style suit jacket from the back he feels from his fingers the gripping of a pistol handle that is strapped under his belt.

As Tony was leaving he heard Ma pulling out something from behind, pushing the children away, "Go!"

In an instinctual habit Tony ducks down on the ground avoiding the bullet as it graces the while brick wall.

Boom

The sound of the bullet as it breaks through the wall producing a forceful afternoise.

Even before Ma pulled out the pistol Tony was aware through observation that he was hiding a pistol behind his back.

"Great isn't it," says Ma holding the gun in his right hand while laughing maniacally. "I will bring you with me!"

As he was about to pull the trigger again a bullet shot through his skull killing him.

In that second of death his eyes were still in disbelief as he looked upon his prey who was on the floor.

The other gangsters who were on the floor in hiding look over seeing Tony holding a gun in his hand pointing to the direction where Ma went down.

Tony's face was calm and steady as he stood up from the floor, slowly putting the gun away.

"Hui are you okay," Ip Man asks, rushing over to him.

"No problem. Let's go Master Ip Man," Tony told him with a calm smile.

The gangsters didn't have the courage to stand up to block the two men taking away the kidnapped children.

Despite being cold blooded gangsters killing a man was an extreme only a few have done with their own hands.

Seeing Tony walking over the men stepped back in fear as though he was a virus that would bring death upon them.

At home Mrs. Wing Sing in a purple open sweater was sitting at the dinner table with her hands at her head with a face filled with grief and anxiousness clutching at her.

Seeing that there were some sounds at the door she looks in the direction with hope that everything will be fine.

She looks to the door and sees her son coming towards her, "Mama Mama!"

She had a face of joyous smile as she saw her dear child, "Ah Ching!"

All the anxieties like a snowy mountain before now melts away with the warming embrace of her child.

They were both in tears as they embraced each other, that is a mixture of happiness and fear.

Ip Man walks slowly into the room breathing out a deep sigh of relief while unbuttoning the collar of his black changshan.

Sitting down as he sees the tearful face of his wife, "There was trouble at the school. They abducted Ah Ching. I'm so sorry, Wing Sing."

Ip Man had his head down as he said so to her truthfully, her wife stood up from the embrace and slapped Ip Man in the face loudly.

In a calm manner Ip Man says to her, "It's my fault."

Grabbing hold of her hand into his, "I was wrong. It's my fault. It won't happen again, okay?"

She pulls away her hand as she walks to the bed in sob as tears fall down her cheeks.

Ip Man walks over to the bed and gently cradles her head with his hand, then sitting next to her and putting her into his embrace.

She leans into Ip Man as he says, "It's all my fault. Don't cry."

In her sobs she told her husband vulnerably, "Darling, I'm so afraid."

"It's all right now," he reassures her.

"But I might not be," she saids in a weak tone.

Looking at her with seriousness he asks, "What do you mean?"

Looking her husband in the eyes with sadness she struggles to bring out the words, "The doctor said...I probably...have cancer."

Her eyes were filled with tears as she looked into his, with so much sadness from the bitter resignation to the truth that will befallen her in due time.

The next day Ip Man and his wife sit at the doctor's office looking at a black and white x-ray picture on the wall from his wife's lower abdomen.

In that picture of her lower abdomen there were black dotted spots that are like blotted ink on paper.

The female doctor saids, "The black spots indicate cancer cells. These are tumors. The cancer has spread too widefly for us to be able to operate."

Hearing the diagnosis there was this somberness that spread in the room as Ip Man and Mrs. Wing Sing takes in the truth.

Holding his wife's hand warmly he asks calmly containing the sadness in his voice, "Is it curable?"

"Normally, we'd prescribe medicines but at this stage," the doctor answers, "it will take a miracle to save her."

There was this depressing silence as Mrs. Wing Sing asks fraily, "Doctor, how much time do I have?"

"Less than half a year," the doctor replies.

At the dinner table that night the family sits in bitter silence as the two parents hold their heads down in comprehension of the sad reality.

Ip Man was eating the rice but his eyes were in a daze, while Mrs. Wing Sing felt she didn't have much appetite any longer from the rice.

With a warm smile she saids to Ip Man, "I'll get you more rice."

He had a calm expression as he felt the warmness of that smile reaching into his worried heart.

Through the night Ip Man didn't sleep a wink as his mind was occupied by the acceptance of the diagnosis.

The next morning as Mrs. Wing Sing was pouring some rice porridge into Ip Man's bowl and she heard a loud knock on the door.

Ip Man looked at her then said, "I'll get it."

After Ip Man opened the door she saw Tony who's dressed in a grey changshan coming in, "Good morning Mrs. Wing Sing! Good morning Ah Ching, look what Uncle Hui got for you."

"Uncle Hui!" Ching runs up to Tony with excitement.

Since he was saved yesterday he starts believing that Tony is some kind of hidden superhero.

Tony took out from behind his back a brand new colored comics book, "Here you go!"

"Thank you Uncle Hui!"

Grabbing his wife's hand in reassurance, Ip Man told her, "I called Hui early in the morning. We have to give it a try Wing Sing."

She nods as she looks into those eyes which speaks with so much confidence and faith.

Sitting at the table Ip Man told him with seriousness, "Hui, the doctor said Wing Sing has cancer."

During these 50 years since he arrived in this world Tony was finally able to create a pill that isolates different compounds in a way that works effectively for curing cancer.

From the briefcase that Tony is carrying with him he takes out a white porcelain pill bottle that he places on the table.

Introducing the small round pill from the bottle, "Mrs. Wing Sing this is a pill that I specifically created to cure cancer."

Placing the small round pill into the palm of her hand carefully, as she swallows it with water.

In half an hour she said surprisingly to Ip Man, "Darling I feel a warm sensation coursing to my lower abdomen...the pain has lessened."

Ip Man smiled with elation, "That's good! Hui, thank you so much!" Taking hold of Tony's hand in gratitude.

"Master Ip Man you should spend these days taking care of Mrs. Wing Sing," Tony said to him, "during this healing period her body will be very weak."
