Chapter 13 - 12

"I'm telling you. Thank God for your daughter but is Amaka the only one? what about Purity. You are just lucky your daughter listens to you. My own daughter is not left out, her husband has refused to pay her bride price." Mama Cletus complained bitterly whilst my mum shook her head.

"Girls no longer want to keep their Virginities for their husband's. I'm happy that no boy has deceived my daughter out of hers. She has promised to keep herself till marriage." My mum boasted.

I had to stiffen my laughter with a lot of will. They didn't know that sin was in me. Amused I took a spoon of rice and slowly ate it while I listened to their conversation.

"That's because she stays mostly at home__ "

"Yes and sees only priest. Speaking of priest this our new father is too fine to be a priest." My mum whispered. "He looks like a white."

"I'm telling you Mama Gloria. I'm glad he became one because the fight for him for kill girls." Mama Cletus added very interested now.

Jealousy clawed at my skin, a stinging scorpion. They had no right to look at him. His body was for me alone to see, as mine was for his.

I lost my appetite again and dropped my spoon. I almost choked from the intense anger that gnarled at my chest.

"Even as he is a priest there is still fight. If he didn't start openly disgracing the girls that came to seduce him do you know the temptation he would have faced and he might have fallen. They were more than 30 girls. Even married women and men sef so I heard"

"They won't let a man be holy." Mama Cletus said snapping her fingers in the way that showed her disdain." He's a great Priest, a true priest from the line of Melchizedek. The lord is in him. Thank God the bishop finally gave us a good priest after our protest. Father John sucked our church dry __!"

"He almost killed St Paul." My mum added immediately. She never liked father Paul and later I began to see why. The idiot tried touching me so many times but he was always plain right evil, there had been no deception in his demeanor.

For father Paul what you saw was what you got but Father valentine was a whole different case. For him, what you see did not exist.

"After that our protest of no longer giving offerings, Bishop's eye open oh. You know we are the second biggest parish in the diocese. He can't afford it."

"Bishop like money eh."

"E like money no be small." My mum laughed carrying her shoulder's up, attempting to mimick him. I laughed hard along with mama Cletus.

My mum's mimicking power was so good I counted it as one of her many talents.

I picked up my spoon again determined to finish my food no matter what. The last thing I wanted was for my mum to start being suspicious of me. I couldn't afford that so I had to avoid it at all cost.
