Chereads / Pity Me / Chapter 52 - CHAPTER 50

Chapter 52 - CHAPTER 50

Business?

Seeing that she wasn't planning on sitting down any time soon, Francis crossed his legs comfortably and began to speak with his eyes trained forward, "You did good by going to Korea."

Her face hardened, "I didn't exactly have a choice, where were you when I got out?" It was more of an accusation than a question.

"Did you meet Grandma Brienne?"

Exasperated at his conduct she bellowed, "I didnt murder that man! I was saving Ella."

"I don't care about that! Now, answer the question!"

"You don't care?! I was in prison for five bloody years!"

"Yet you're still number one." He sneered, "Still the golden girl."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"I spent all my time getting René out of the way while I was fucking creating my rival myself!"

Her brows furrowed further, "What do you mean, getting René out of the way?"

"Had I not noticed your genius brain, no one would've! I created you! And what did you do? Stain the family name! Erected as a muderer in the Pièrce lineage! Do you have any idea how hard it was to clean up after you?"

"And y-" Her eyes were large and filled with aspiring rage, "You regret that?"

"I wouldn't have, had you not stabbed me in the back like that."

"What are you talking about?!" She cried, "What do you mean you got René out of the way?"

He didn't answer and shook in jailed disgust.

"Francis."

She held her head with both hands and helplessly looked around, she couldn't understand a thing, what was wrong, what wrong had she done? Besides her being falsely accused.

If he didn't care for that, then what was the problem?

"Francis!"

"You'll get the bloody company!" His voice echoed off the walls and fell on Luna's ears like powdered snow.

"You're the heir! Not dad, not me, not aunt Martha, not Jones! Grandpa signed it a year after you went to juvie."

"That can't be right." She uttered breathlessly.

He walked towards her and gripped her shoulders, "You don't think so either, do you?" He stared at her intensely, "Then you'll refuse Grandpa. Wont you?"

She looked at him with disgust, "Is that what this is about?"

"Of course, what else? And Luna, you don't want the company do you?"

He was right, she didn't, she never did. She would've never pursued something that poisoned her family and left them as heartless carcasses.

But,

She couldn't let Francis hurt her like this and then get what he wanted. She wanted to hurt him back, she wanted to make him suffer as she had all along.

"I do want it." She whispered manically.

He let go of her shoulders and stepped back in disbelief, "What?"

"I do want the company, who wouldn't rig-"

He slapped her across her face, harshly.

Luna gritted her teeth and turned her face back to him, to glare at him, "I will lead that company better than any of you motherfuckers."

He was about to hit her again, but she caught his wrist tightly and brought her face close to his,

"Careful." She uttered, "Iv killed a man once, I wont hesitate in doing it again."

As Francis's delay in coming to see her prolonged, she broke a little on the inside everyday. And that was all the hurt she could allow herself. So, she miraculously used her tragic false acquittal to her advantage, though it pained her even to say it something so ridiculous. She killed that man to save her friend, thats not murder..

He freed his arm roughly and gave her one last last glare before storming out.

Everything was spinning and her legs almost gave out,

Alone in a chapel, before God, she felt like praying to be put to sleep forever, to have her misery ended.

She sat down on the pew and stared at her hands, her eyes were dry, yet she believed she could cry a river.

Mark walked in and silently sat next to her. She had insulted him just minutes earlier and now life had insulted her back.

"Laugh." Said Luna, "Laugh at me, at my misery."

"How about you laugh." He inhaled, "Laugh with me, at the irony of your brother who was once our idol, turning out to be just like our parents."

"Mark, right now, I believe I truly don't know how to laugh."

He pulled her head to his shoulder and let her lean on him, "Sure you do. If Carrie Bradshaw could laugh after her marriage with Mr. Big broke off, then so could you."

Luna broke out in a chortle, "Well, thats because Charlotte poughkeepsied her pants! And how do you you even know that film?"

"Don't you remember? We watched it together, with Dianne and René."

She rubbed her eyes, "I don't, honestly. I don't remember much of life before."

"That's okay. What's important is that you focus on the future. It's what matters."

"Really?" She asked in a small voice.

He nodded and put a hand to her head, smoothing her hair, "Life moves onward, no matter who dies, or what's lost. Focus on who lives, and what you can achieve."

Luna closed her eyes, "Thank you. I needed that."

He smiled, "And Im sorry for what I did. I abandoned you like everyone else whereas I always thought Id be your pillar forever."

"Its okay." She told him sleepily.

"No, its not. And I didn't even have a party that night. I just couldn't bear to send you off."

"Im sorry I stole your dog."

"He was yours first so apology not needed."

Luna drifted off into a dreamless sleep and Mark stayed there for her all night, her pillar.
