Chereads / Save Me, Angel / Chapter 8 - 8

Chapter 8 - 8

"So that's what happened?" Liz says, sitting on the bed.

"Yep," I say cheerfully, "I can't believe I did it still. I feel so relieved!"

"Well, besides that," Liz says matter of factly, "I think you like him."

My head snaps to look at her, "No way, we're friends."

"So what about all that cheek caressing?" she teases, pointing an accusing finger at me.

"That was for educational purposes," I say, "Nothing romantic."

"You guys could've held hands," Liz argues, "That's intimate enough."

"Well, what about you?" I say, flipping the situation.

"What about me?" Liz says, stretching her arms, "I have nothing to hide."

"You like Malcolm," I state. Liz's eyes widen and she looks at me, shocked.

"I do not," she says, "He's just really nice, but he's like that to everyone."

"Uh huh, you're just in denial," I accuse her, throwing a pillow at her.

"Fine," she admits, "just like you."

We both stare each other down, trying to break the other but we just end laughing together.

"But seriously, if you like him, you should tell him," Liz says, "before someone else snatches him up."

I shake my head, "It's not like that."

"If you say so," she says before closing the lights, "Night."

"Night."

The next day was the anticipated combat battles between the different species, and it was safe to say that I was terrified. Utterly and completely.

"I really hope I don't get challenged," I whisper to Liz, trying to use her as a human shield from other people's views.

"You heard what everyone's saying, freshmen rarely get chosen," Liz reassures, "We're mostly here to watch."

The Headmaster makes some short announcement about safety and making sure that everyone understands that the rule to make the opponent take to the floor, and not aim to kill. Once that was done, he disappeared once again, probably into his office.

"Okay, so clean fighting everyone," Erik says, "Who wants to go first?"

A male student raises his hand and my jaw slacks at how huge he was. And I'm talking in height and muscles, this guy looked like he took steroids daily. "Do you see him?" Liz whispers in my ear, "He's hot."

I elbow her, "He might hear you."

"Mr. Jacob, who would you like to challenge?" Erik asks the student, putting a hand on his broad shoulders.

"Chase, werewolf," Jacob says, sending a wink at the group of girls to his left.

Another male student, with an equally large frame stands up and walks to the center of the little circle all the students made. "I accept," Chase says, stretching his arms. Whistles and shouts were heard from the crowd, especially the girls.

"Malcolm," Erik says, and Malcolm nods before closing his eyes.

His person started to glow a light blue before spreading to the rest of us, and a large glowing barrier was created to enclose the two opponents inside. "This dome will allow them to fight, and will protect the students from any teeth or blood that goes flying," Malcolm explains, and elegantly takes a seat again.

"Well, begin," Ronan, the leader of werewolves urged. Chase and Jacob faced each other, both smiles wiped from their faces. They were getting serious.

"Watching two hot men fight is honestly a dream come true," Liz says next to me, her mouth slightly drooling.

I hand her a napkin, "Drool."

She wipes it but her focus is on the fight before her. Jacob starts first and plows into him, but Chase doesn't lose his footing like expected. Instead, he retaliates with a punch to the gut which Jacob dodges. He went on the defense as Chase attacked him with more punch, that seemed to fast for the typical human eye. I wince, as I saw Jacob's mouth was bleeding from all the attacks. Finally done with being a punching bag, Jacob kicks Chase and Chases back hits the surface of the dome.

"Ow," I comment.

Chase growls in anger, and I see a distinct change in his body. Like his teeth elongated, slight claws on the tip of his nails, and his height seemed to increase by at least a foot. He charges at Jacob, who dodges and hits him on the back of his head. Immediately, Chase falls to the ground, knocked unconscious.

"Winner is Jacob," Ronan calls the match, and a medic team takes away Chase for healing.

The students cheered for Jacob and even gave him high fives as he sat. "Next match," Erik calls out, and a girl stands up. "Celeste, vampire," the girl says, and Celeste stands up with a smile.

"Hey Jeanette, are you sure you can take me?" Celeste says, "And I accept." The dome circles around them before enclosing them inside.

Celeste charges first, and Jeanette dodges smoothly. Using her fingers to swipe some incantation in the air, large vines shoot up from the ground to imprison Celeste. Celeste lets out a cry of rage as she struggles against the unforgiving vines. It seems like Jeanette had won but as she lowered her arm, Celeste swiftly cut through the vines with her sharpened nails.

She charges at Jeanette who puts up a protection barrier at the last minute and reflects Celeste, who hits the barrier wall.

"Damn," I say, watching Celeste get up, her face bleeding in most places, "This is brutal."

"She's so amazing," Liz says, "I wanna be like Jeanette."

Celeste, enraged and consumed by her anger, charges Jeanette in a final attempt but Jeanette simply uses her vines to pull Celeste to the ground and ultimately incapacitating her. "Winner is Jeanette," Malcolm finalizes, as Celeste is taken by the medics to heal her bloody injuries.

"Jesus, how is this legal," I mutter, in shock.

"Well, we should heal faster than humans so there's that," Liz says, though I could tell she was a bit grossed out.

"Next challenge," Erik says, unfazed by the amount of bloodshed that occurred within the last hour, "We have time for one more."

Another girl stood up sharply, though she looked a little familiar. Her perfect body and matching pretty face was probably something to remember. She smirks, looking through the crowd for her opponent until her green doe eyes land on me, "That girl, freshman."
