Chereads / Save Me, Angel / Chapter 9 - 9

Chapter 9 - 9

I look behind me to see if she was pointing to someone behind me, but nobody was sitting behind me. Crap, it is me.

"Mila, I think she just challenged you," Liz whispers to me.

"Hmm, challenging a freshman," Erik muses, "Is that allowed, Malcolm?"

"It doesn't forbid it in the rules," Malcolm answers, concerned while the girl grinned.

"Do you accept?" interjects Cerix, "You can refuse."

The girl sighs, drawing the attention back to her. "Don't tell me you're not letting them choose what they want to do?"

"Macy," Ronan warns, "Don't egg them on."

"Come on," Macy taunts, "I'll beat her quickly, no blood or anything."

Liz looks at me in concern, "It's your call but I really don't like the glint in her eyes."

I look at Macy, and she gives me a taunting smile, "I mean, I expect you to reject since you after a freshman and therefore, weaker."

Clenching my teeth, I glare at her. Please tell me all upperclassmen were this stuck up?!

"I re-" I begin to say but she cuts me off with another jab.

"I mean, no one, not even the Headmaster knows what the hell she is? Maybe something wrong with her parentage?" she taunts, "Oh wait, I heard from a little birdie, her parents abandoned her. Poor little girl."

I stand up abrupted, with clenched fists, "I accept." Whispers began around the students as many of them looked at me in worry. Realizing what I just did, Macy only grinned in victory.

"Please come forward," Erik says, though he looked more than happy to tell me to sit down.

"Erik, she's a freshman," Cerix tried to argue but Erik shook his head.

"She accepted. Rules are rules, it was her choice," Erik says, "We have the best medic on staff, and it's more than likely she's not human, so she'll heal."

I stepped forward, trying hard to not look at Liz's worried face and the concerned faces of the other students. I was going to die.

Macy smiled and her face lit up as stood in front of me, excited to beat me up. "Barrier going up," Malcolm says from the side, and the barrier was formed and as a result, I was trapped with this female killer.

"So your name is Mila?" she says, stretching her arms above her head. I nod, a bit terrified to speak.

"Try to speak a little lower next time, my werewolf senses pick up everything," she says, "So shall we get to ass-kicking?"

I step back as she approaches with a predator intent, "You know, I don't know how you do it but you somehow got Cerix under your spell."

I look at her confusion, "What do you mean?"

She scoffs, slapping me viciously and the pain slowly made my eyes tear. Shit, that hurt!

"Don't play around. I bet you are a witch," she growls out, "They're the lowest of the low."

I glare at her, despite the pain in my face, "They are not!"

Macy laughs, raising a leg and leisurely kicking me in the stomach. Coughing, I was forced to my knees and I gripped my stomach which was throbbing in absolute pain. "Tell me, how'd you do it? Love potion or some crap?" she hisses, gripping my hair and lifting my head to her gaze.

"No," I say quietly, "Just t-talk to him."

Macy looks at me carefully and starts laughing before tossing me to the side like a ragdoll. My body bounces off the barrier wall and I slid down in pain, as I try to shelter my side which took much of the impact. Huffing in pain, I try my best to sit up but to no avail, I'm thrown against the barrier again. Coughing, blood spills out and I find it extremely hard to breathe. I could hear some commotion outside the barrier wall but that might be the buzzing that I have started to hear.

"Well, look at you now. I bet Cerix would find you absolutely repulsive," Macy mocks, "I'll warn you now that he's mine, so stay away from him."

Perhaps it was the pain or the fact that everybody outside the barrier looked absolutely still, but I started to laugh. It hurt my lungs but I didn't give a shit, "You think you're the one for him?! Have you heard yourself, you sound so desperate!"

I didn't have the time to breathe as Macy gripped my throat in her clawed hands and lifted me into the air, my back sliding up the barrier wall. "Watch your mouth, bitch," she growled, "Didn't your dead parents teach you anything? Or were they too disgusted by you, that death was a better option?"

I stopped struggling as she gave me a victorious smirk, "Finally submitted huh?"

Something warm swarmed inside me, and I felt it trying to escape the cage that it was in. My body felt like it wanted to explode. How dare this stranger talk about my parents so familiarly as if she knew them? She knew nothing!

"Let her go," Erik suddenly interjects, "You've won." Despite his interjection, Macy held on tight as something crazy filed her eyes.

I lifted a hand and placed it on her arm, and she suddenly pulled away suddenly and I dropped to the ground. "What did you do?" she screamed as she held her arm.

I looked up and saw a blood-red spot forming on her arm, as she was screaming at me. I felt myself get stronger as the warm light filled my entire body from head to toe as if it was healing me. "You b*tch!" she screamed wildly, "Your parents-"

"Quiet," I stated, and I even surprised myself at how dark and deadly calm my voice sounded, "Don't talk about them so familiarly."

Without my consent, I lifted my hand and made a move to push her and she went flying through the barrier to the nearest tree behind her. However, that wasn't enough, and I put more effort in my hand movement which resulted in her breaking that tree she was on and flying back towards a line of trees.

Surprised students stood up as they looked at the broken trees and the werewolf girl at the end of the line, no doubt unconscious at this point. "Who won?" A student wondered out loud.

Erik looked at me, a small smile forming, "Mila, freshman, takes the win."

A few students clapped, mostly from the freshman group but nonetheless, I felt powerful. I looked at my hands in wonder, not a scratch in place, and wondered just what the hell I was. Someone grabbed my elbow and pulled me to my seat, Liz looked at me curiously. "You had me seriously worried at one point, I really thought you would come out with an unrecognizable face and all," she says, inspecting my face, "But nope, here you are, completely healed and even whipped Macy's ass."

"And she totally deserved it," another student beside Liz added. A bunch of students nodded.

"Well, that was exciting," Erik comments, "A freshman won against upperclassmen."

"It was a fair win," Ronan says, stepping forth, "and I apologize for her behavior. She should've stopped when Erik called out her win. So, what Mila did was in self-defense. And more than justified."

My heart swelled at the fact that people were actually taking me seriously and were actually backing me up. "I agree, that was a justifiable act," Cerix says.

The medic team finally were able to put Macy on a gurney before healing her on sight. "Well, since that was quite intense and the environment took a hit, let's call it a day," Erik suggests, and the students started to disperse.

"Malcolm, please fix the trees," Erik says, "The Headmaster would have a fit if he saw his trees damaged this way."

Malcolm merely sighs before using his magic to lift the trees back in place as if I never threw Macy through them. Oh, the wonders of wizardry.

"You really have no injuries," Liz says finally after a good amount of time inspecting me, "She gave you really bad wounds though."

I shrug, not knowing what to say in response, "Um, it might be part of my lineage."

"That's so cool," Liz says with shining eyes, "But seriously, I'm glad you're okay because I really wanted to intervene. I just learned how to put a frog curse on someone recently, after all. It'd be great to have a test subject."

I laugh, "Be my guest."

"Mila!" a voice calls me and I look up to find a serious-looking Cerix, "Come with me, we have lessons."

"But we have the rest of the day off," I say, "And I wanted to spend some time with Liz."

Liz muffles a laugh and pushed me toward Cerix, "Have fun kids. Do all the things I would."

Cerix grabs my wrist and pulls me a long while I glare at Liz, "Where are we going?"

"As I said, we have lessons," he muttered, pulling me to where the library was.

I pulled my arm back which stops him in his tracks, "Seriously, what are we doing?"

Cerix sighs, "To find out what you are. And the best place to do that is the library."

"But," I say, "I thought nobody knew what I was?"

"That's true because it's always been those four classes of witches/ wizards, werewolves, vampires and fairies," he explains, "But like me, there are other rarer species of the supernatural."

I finally concede and follow him to the library, to the same spot we went before. "Okay, so I already know of some books that could help," he says, and grabs a couple of ancient-looking books off some random shelf, "Here is the book to all and every type of supernatural and this one as the mythical supernatural creatures and their signs."

He slides them toward me and I flip them open with curiosity, "Woah, 1699. That's really far back."

"The Elder Library does have records that date back to centuries ago in the cliche restricted section," Cerix says, flipping through his own pile of resources.

I scan the page I was looking at when I came upon something about quick healing. Healing abilities are usually associated with female witches but also it was related to divine beings. Divine beings could be as strong as gods or goddesses to demi-humans. Demi-humans were simply half-god and half-human, sort of like what Cerix is except the other half of him belongs to a demonic ancestry. There was also another category for angels, seemingly known as messengers of the gods and goddesses but higher than demi-humans. They held an immense amount of power in order to defend but also to attack those who would harm their gods or goddesses.

Scrunching my face, I read on and was surprised to find many of the signs to fit the experiences I went through. Full-blooded angels were usually born in the sky, in another world where humans cannot see and they already have their wings with them. However, half-angels usually are born on Earth and have a human body vessel. In addition, the half-angel usually has no memory of their childhood and often go through life without parents. They have extremely quick healing abilities and have the ability to move things with their mind or if they imagine it. Other powers include the manipulation of the light, flying when their wings finally return to them (as in the person can finally reveal his or her wings), and having a craving for sweet food. They may also have a special marking that distinguishes them from normal humans.

Furthermore, half angels were extremely rare but what was even rarer was the second type of angel: the blood angel. The blood angel had all the attributes of the half-angel but its human side is the one that had merged too well with its angel side that it creates a new power of its own which is blood magic. In other words, the manipulation of blood. The blood angels are few in number, about 3 to date and can hold an immense amount of power that can be devastating against an opponent or enemy.

Releasing the breath I wasn't aware that I was holding, I looked up to see Cerix still seriously looking through the pages of his book. His eyes flickered upward, catching my own, "Find anything?"

"I might have, here read over here," I tell him, averting my eyes back to my book and sliding it over so he could see.

"Half angel huh?" Cerix says, "Wouldn't be surprised, and my nickname for you would be an absolute bonus because it turns out you might be one."

"This is no time to be joking," I say fuming, pinching his wrist.

He winces, "Ow, and it's not a joke if that is the truth."

"The hints and signs match like the healing, being able to throw a werewolf through trees, and the tattoo you had this morning," Cerix says, "How about the background like the parents and such?"

Sliding further in my seat, I crossed my arms, "Didn't you hear Macy declare where my parents are to the whole world?"

"Hey," Cerix says gently, making me look up, "I don't give a shit what she had to say because they weren't her parents, they were yours. So, on that note, I'll believe what you tell me."

Slightly taken back, I scrunch my eyebrows before replying, "My parents died, but I never really got to know them. And I don't remember my childhood, so it's true."

Cerix nods in understanding, "I'm sorry."

"Don't be, it was a long time ago. And plus I don't remember much of it," I say.

"Hey, I'll be right back," Cerix suddenly gets up, and leaves the library.

"Hey, where are you going?"I say, but he was gone. I sigh and lay my head on the table. Was I really a half-angel?

Closing my eyes, it was easy to fall asleep. The darkness welcomed me as usual and soon I was passed out.
