Chapter 109 - Mom's (108)

Josh got home and was reading up on Dementia.

○ What is dementia?

If someone you love gets diagnosed with dementia, it means he has a progressive and sometimes chronic brain condition that causes problems with his thinking, behavior, and memory.

Dementia itself is not a disease, but a syndrome. Its symptoms are common to several brain diseases.

It will get worse over time. But medications might slow that decline and help with symptoms, such as behavior changes.

There are many different types of dementia. Your loved one's treatments will depend on the type he has.

○ What's the link between dementia and Alzheimer's disease?

Experts think between 60% and 80% of people with dementia have this disease. More than 5 million Americans have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It's what most people think of when they hear dementia. If someone you know has Alzheimer's, you'll notice symptoms such as memory loss and trouble planning and doing familiar tasks.

○ What are the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease?

The symptoms are mild at first but get worse over a number of years. Your friend or relative might:

Be confused about where he is or what day or year it is

Have problems speaking or writing

Lose things and be unable to backtrack to find them

Show poor judgment

Have mood and personality changes

○ What are the symptoms of vascular dementia?

This type of dementia usually follows a major stroke, or one or more silent strokes, which can happen without you realizing it. The symptoms depend on which part of the brain the stroke affected.

While Alzheimer's usually begins with memory problems, vascular dementia more often starts with poor judgment or trouble planning, organizing, and making decisions. Other symptoms may include:

Memory problems that disrupt your loved one's daily life

Trouble speaking or understanding speech

Problems recognizing sights and sounds that used to be familiar

Being confused or agitated

Changes in personality and mood

Problems walking and having frequent falls

He read a long time page after page. This was part of the reason his father hated him so what could he do to correct this.

Ben was cooking dinner when George and Junior came back.

George sat down and looked at the info Josh had and tired to answer the question he had.

"Tomorrow I'll call Dad's specialist and let him explain better then I am." George said. "Reading all this is just going to drive you crazy.

Josh shut down the computer just as Ben called everyone in for dinner.

Babs walked out of the hospital. The check up on the baby was good but she was a little sad she was by herself.

As she waited for the next bus the black car that Mrs. West drove pulled up. Babs took out her phone and called Bert to come get her as she walked back into the hospital to wait with gaurds.

Mrs. West followed Babs in. "Stop right there. I want to know how the check up went."

"That is none of your business." Babs said. "Sir can I wait here for my ride this lady is harassing me and I'm afraid she will hurt me."

The gaurd asked Mrs. West to leave. However because Babs would not give a answer to her question she went up to the obgyn's office to get a copy of the report.

"Miss Beauté, I have a Mrs. West here asking for a copy of your records and since she is not on the approved list I need you permission to give it out." A nurse said.

"No, she can not have access to my records. I also promise that if she gets a copy I will sue the hospital." Babs said.

"I assure you we take the HIPAA law very serious that is why we called. I will mark this attempt in your chart so she can not try this again."

"Thank you." As Babs hung up David pulled up.

"Bert sent me. He said my mother is bothering you. Get in I'll take you home." David said opening the door.

"She was trying to get my records. They just called." Babs said.

"I'm sorry, how was the visit?" He asked.

"Not telling you either." Babs stared out the window.

"Babs, I'm not the bad guy here. I really do care."

"I know it's just stressful to deal with all this."

"Can I take you to dinner tonight?"

"I could go for Italian." She said.

"How about Italy Garden then?" He smiled.

"Sounds good." On the way she got a call from Neil.

"Hello?"

"Hi, My mom called to yell at me about the baby. She said you went to the hospital are you all right?" He asked.

"It was just a monthly checkup. Why do you care?"

"Babs we were friends once and even though I don't want to be this child's father it does not mean I wish it harm. Stay away from my mother she will only hurt you."

"I'm trying. She is the one causing problems."

They pulled up to the restaurant and went in.
