The crowd gets heavier with little circles of people from here and there talking about either business or current events worldwide. I think this event is like choosing the best ring for a lover. People are looking and smiling at each other, sizing the capacity of each one and trying to see from how they walk and talk the value of the the "ring" base on its stone. Each one is precious but who's the finest of them all... Building Connections, establishing influences, finding the wealthiest company is the game to play. Good looks is a good factor to start with. Establishing rapport is another story. But for me, dealing with people must be founded by sincerity without ifs and buts.
I saw my father from one place to another, talking from one person to another, hearing them laugh to a joke and back to business talks. I also saw him throwing glances at me, I got his message so I just smiled silently. I have to mingle to this people at my own and be familiar with most of them if not all. I started approaching a group of five people mixed male and female which I think are at least ten years older than me but looking younger than their respective ages. I smiled and said hello to them trying to catch up to what they were talking about. They were friendly and accommodating so I did not find it hard to be engrossed with the topic they were discussing. At a point, two people joined us, three came out with an excuse and went to another group. A few minutes more, I thought I also have to go and meet other groups. Then I learned the techniques of going round robin from one group to another until I came across with Owen again and from then we cross to one group to another as a twosome.
Everything run smoothly until I and Owen came to a group where Rona also came in. I got uneasy that I involuntarily tightened my hold to Owen's arm and made him look at me wondering why. I just smiled and hide my feeling of discomfort. I sensed that Rona was already tipsy and was talking too loud, she was laughing uncontrollably to a not so funny joke when Richard came and tried to drag her to a corner. But Rona was drunk and as soon as Richard got hold of her hand, she turned and slapped him in front of us. We were shocked and nobody moved for a second until Rona's loud scream was heard. A scream of hatred and disappointment. She then looked straight at me and had few steps forward towards me but Richard came and blocked her way. Some men also came to help Richard bring Rona to their car. Luckily, she did not utter my name or say something that would give people a clue that something is wrong between the two of us. I was nervous but I was ready to give her a battle incase she got near me or touched me. Owen never left my side, he thought Rona was just a random drunkard so he was trying to sooth my feeling that everything is just a coincident. When I saw Rona and Richard, I started to relax again and everything was back to normal with people talking as if nothing happened but ofcourse, if each group will just be listened to, no group failed to mention the name of the drunkard and her business affiliation, no attendees never heard Rona's story.
Few minutes later, Richard came back looking tired and haggard. He came straight to me and said his apology swiftly without Owen noticing it. I just smiled as I led Owen to a seat nearby. As I have said, heaven favors me so much that I don't need to do extra effort to do revenge against Rona. My decision to join.my father to his business endeavors is enough to kill her softly. Without her knowing, the plan of action had began...
