Damn the heavens

Many thousands of years before the Modern Era was a time where the different races flourished and lived together without major conflict. This time was known as the Ancient Era and it became nothing but a legend as the divine techniques wielded by the powerhouses of different clans and races were lost in the endless, merciless sands of time.

However, a fraction of these inheritances remain around the universe, awaiting the day they will shock the world in the hands of those who have sufficient luck, talent and destiny.

One boy who didn't have such qualities was Aurelius Maximus, an orphan of the Maximus clan, who deteriorated from a top tier power that governed a planet to a weak clan that only ruled over a tiny city.

Aurelius was 11 years old and unlike most others, who unwashed their potential for cultivation at the age of 9, still had no signs of spiritual power. Hence, he was frequently bullied by his clan members to the point where we was unable to move after each "training session".

After two years of cultivation, most of them had advanced to the initial realm of cultivation: the body tempering realm. Each realm had 9 stages and stages 1-3 were early, 4-6 middle stage and 7-9 late stage of each realm. The Maximus clan only had knowledge regarding the first 3 stages and their strongest martial practitioner was the clan leader, who was in the 7the stage of the third realm. After the body tempering realm came the essence gathering realm and then the Qi forming realm, where you were considered to be a true practitioner and could slice a tree in twain with your bare hands.

Aurelius had just turned 11 and was up in the forest near his home. Every day, without fail he would run to the forest, despite his inferior physical abilities and train himself yet he still hadn't reached the body tempering realm. He was a cripple. A nothing in this world with no strength- a nothing in this world who would only be ordered around and treated as a mere slave.

He couldn't accept this and a huge feeling of unwillingness washed over him. Past his training area was the inner forest where demon beasts reside. They were fierce animals who were born with Qi and would kill anything that entered their sight. Aurelius had always been afraid of entering the inner forest . His closest confidant, a maid of the family, constantly warned him of the danger.

For a second, he contemplated entering but he didn't have the courage. Looking up scornfully, he screamed in his heart. He screamed at the heavens for the injustice of the world, at his weakness, uselessness and fear. He shouted aloud, "DAMN THE HEAVENS!". But there was no reply, he wasn't a talented young master like he'd read about in novels. Life wasn't fair. He wasn't a lucky person. He was nothing.
