Chapter 18 - Never go back

"Hey!"

Ania footsteps stopped when she heard a familiar voice.

"This voice is..."

She scan the surrounding until her sight spotted a figure not far from her.

"Big white?"

Ania was surprised to see one of the three rabbit that brought her here. Ever since she came here, the three of them was never separated from each other. So why is he here?

"You've been shouting here for long now. Your voice can be heard even inside the room."

Heh? Inside?

Ania's sight immediately looked towards the window that's now opened and a figure of a man looking down at her direction. She bit her lips.

Sh*t!

The person she was cursing all this time had long heard her voice! She wanted to dig a pit and bury herself in it. But wait, why would she?

She returned the gaze of that demon back but the moment she looked back, the image of the man vanished and the window was once again closed.

" I thought someone killed you because of the shout."

"Bah! More than that! Do you know what he has done to me? I've been nice to him, cooked him food, sang him and even woke up early just to wake him up and what? Getting splashed by water and thrown a flour? Hah! And the worse part is? He can even easily wake himself up early just to set all those trap for me and make fun of me then laughed!"

You can see clearly the red face of Ania as she was fuming just remembering what happened to her earlier. The cold water and the sticky feeling...

"He laughed..."

Big white smiled slightly as he said those words.

"Yeah, his laugh is the result of him embarrassing and making fun of me! You know the hardships I suffered from? I will never go back there!"

"No, please keep on serving him..."

"Serving that crazy demon? Big white, do you want me to die? My answer is no. Never!"

"Please, it doesn't matter what, as long as he can laugh."

Ania felt betrayed. It looks like her opinion doesn't even exist now. What more does she needs to except, after all, she was here serving that annoying demon because of those three rabbits planned and calculated all this before.

"Hey, do you know why we are offering you a lot more than you deserve for this job?"

Big white took a deep breath.

"Apart from you, the demons around here all decided to follow him without receiving anything in return. I may not look like it but I am the oldest one that followed him."

He looked at Ania for a bit second to see her reaction. Ania cannot believe it. Who wouldn't? This rabbit is the most carefree of all and doesn't look mature.

"Hey, I am still young! What I mean is that I met him when I was still small." Thick and bulging veins are visible in his head even with a lot of furry fur. But this lighten up the mood even for a little bit.

"I saw it all. War, blood and bodies. Bodies of demons and human. Dead bodies, corpse or whatever you called that, lying mixed together. The huge amount of blood dyed the ground, the color of the blood cannot even discern between the humans' red-colored blood and the demons' green colored one. A child like me was unable to protect myself and decided to play dead and pretend."

"Then, amidst that infighting, I saw him crying while hugging a dead woman. I was taught that crying is a show of weakness, but after master cried that time and laid the body of a woman in the ground I didn't saw his weakness . The eyes of his turned dark red and with a swift motion, the whole army of demons were eradicated."

Big white closed his eyes as the memories flashed back.

If only he was as strong a him, then maybe, just maybe, he will be able to protect those that was dear to him.

It was that time when he also decided to follow him. How long has it been now? 10? 20? He cannot even remember. But in all this years that he was serving him he never saw him laughed nor smile , even once...

"Master never let others come near him, that's why your job is very hard. All the other servants were thrown if not killed. I was surprised that you survived that very first day."

"Not only that, you made him laughed. Something that he never done or maybe never after she died..."

"She? You mean Rachella?"

"Rachella... so that is the name of the person who made him the way he is now. But also the woman whose not here anymore to guide and accompany him...

Now he is just a lonely and wondering soul."

His gaze locked in her face trying to read the emotions in her eyes.

"Please think about your decision deeply before doing an action."

Big white then walked away from her. "I hope that she can decipher it."

Ania looked back at the already closed window.

Should I continue this?

She remembered the tears that he shed that night. Sleeping is the time where you can relax your mind and soul, letting it rest. The time where everyone is waiting for. But to him it was a torture. There was no sleeping in a soft comfy clouds, instead a ground full of blood. Not a bolster to hug at night, but a dead body of his lover. If every time you sleep, the dream of the terrible past keeps haunting you, would you still look forward to it?

That night, Ania went back to his room.

"You look so gentle when you sleep. Hehe, only when you sleep..."

The man's face again wrinkled.

"Dreaming of it again?"

Maybe forgetting something is much better than this.

She softly caress his hair as she sang her unfinished lullaby once again.

"I'll give it a try again..."
