Chapter 1 - The girl in purple

Valentines day.

At a certain highschool.

---------

Damien nervously clutched the bouquet of flowers as he rushed up the stairs towards the top of the school building where he was supposed to meet a girl. They've been together for a year and he was pretty excited to present to her the bouquet he personally made.

"Calm down, it's not a big deal" he kept telling himself as he was feeling anxious in his heart as if something would go wrong.

This foreboding premonition could be explained as a sixth sense at times because it rarely went wrong in Damien's case.

He finally reached the door to the top of the building where the whole city could be seen clearly. He stopped at the door and wiped his forehead before straightening up his collar and confidently swinging the door open.

His girlfriend was dressed in purple with dark hair trailing along her back. being embraced by another man, who looked at her with visible lust and greed. Damien felt the whole world around him spin as he felt that everything he knew was a lie. Anger, sorrow and confusion filled the depths of his mind as he stared at the duo. He trembled before sighing and dropping the bouquet, scattering flower petals across the cold floor.

He did not have the courage or will to pursue this matter as he knew that the outcome would be the same. The way she let him embrace her was too special, so he knew he couldn't fight against anything if she had made a decision to cheat on him.

Damien silently made his way downstairs back to class unnoticed by the duo. A look of blankness stuck to his face with a aura of sorrow. He stopped at a balcony and took off the wooden pendant that always hung around his neck and threw it violently. The pendant hit the concrete street before ricocheting onto the school ground.

The 16 year old who walked back to class with a look of desolation was ready to give everything away. He felt like he had lost all will to live, a feeling that nobody deserved to feel. He gave up all his time, energy and effort for that girl. But now he realised that it was all wasted. He smiled bitterly as he didn't want to break down at school and become embarrassed for it. He sat down at class which had not started yet with his head leaning against the wall and stared blankly at the clock, just wanting time to speed up.

A few minutes later, a girl dressed in purple barged into class with a bouquet of scattered flowers. "Damien I know you saw me with James, but he told me the type of person you were, so this is what you deserve" She blurted before throwing the bouquet at his face, covering him with the flowers he picked himself.

Damien nonchalantly turned his face towards her and shot her a look of contempt and sorrow before saying; "It's over, leave me alone".

He knew that James might have lied to her about him, creating the bad impression of the girl to Damien. But he didn't want to fix things between them because if she would simply believe someone's lie soo easily, then she wasn't worth it. It was a decision that caused him great sorrow, but he made it for his own good. However, deep down inside, he knew that he still harboured pure feelings for her.

Seeing Damien's behaviour, the girl was unsatisfied as she wanted ser some drama from him, but she decided against doing anything further and scampered out of the class with a Hmph.

After she left, Damien sighed with soo much sorrow that the others in the class could feel all the complex emotions running through his head. Nobody walked up to talked to him about it because nobody was particularly close with him and they just wouldn't want to involve themselves in his affairs.

Damien felt blank during the rest of the day and school and just worked like he was devoid of emotion. But in reality he was suppressing all the raging feelings in his mind. He was suppressing the urge to throw things around and let out his frustration. But society looked down upon such behaviour, especially when it came to men and their feelings.

The was a noticeable change in the atmosphere of the classes Damien went to because of his mood, it seemed like his bad mood affected the people around him too.

He walked home thinking about everything that just happened. A girl he knew for three years and trusted, someone who he spent soo much time and feelings into had threw everything away heartlessly. He couldn't understand how such a change would occur in his relationship in this way. This was very unexpected to Damien.

As he made his way around the street, he saw a car skid across the street, screeching towards a girl dressed in purple. The car crashed onto her, flinging her a few metres before she hit a wall with a thud.

The familiar figure being hit sent chills down his spine as he further confirmed his negative premonition.

"NO!! It can't be her. It can't....."

Damien rushed towards the girl covered in blood, her dark hair had a red hue due to the blood she was covered in. She was breathing heavily as if she was breathing her last.

Shockwaves spread across his mind as he let out a silent scream. "Stay with me!....Breathe!!" He kept repeating to her frenziedly as he clutched her face.

"D...Damien....." She breathed in difficulty, "I'm.....sorry... " She said before stroking the edge of his face like she loved to do.

"Don't talk! Just breathe, I'm calling an ambulance" Damien said in panic.

The wooden pendant that the girl clutched onto was finally let out of her tight grasp at she felt her body weaken and lose control of.

"NO!!!" Cried Damien with his long hair scattered all over his face, giving him a slightly dishevelled appearance. "Please..... " he pleaded helplessly, knowing very well that it was all over.

"It's over" The words he said a few hours earlier echoed across his mind, reverberating like chiming bells. The coincidence was too shocking.

The girl in purple breathed her last as she stared at Damien's panicked face. A feeling of warmth spread across her body as she saw how much he still loved her. She understood that she had been lied to by James, but it was too late to regret. With a final satisfied smile, she closed her eyes as her pain had been finally relieved.

A few hours later

----------

A 16 year old youth covered in blood, with bloodshot eyes and a haggard look unlocked his home and entered it to find nobody at home. His parents were at work so he had the whole place to himself. After locking the door, he started shivering uncontrollably at he slid down along the door onto the floor. Tears escaped his eyes as he finally let out all the feelings he suppressed.

He reached his hand towards a glass ornament and madly threw it at the wall, sending sparkling shards flying beautifully around the house cutting Damien in the process as some shards sliced his skin.

He was in a state of agony, a world of pain and suffering as he tasted loss of the highest level. He knew that his mental state had been affected and this would probably harm him in the long term.

Pain, Pain, Pain. That was the only feeling that invaded his soul. That was the only thing he seems to know at this moment. He had the urge to kill himself.

He felt himself losing his mind.

In madness he fought himself to remain sane.He could feel himself losing his mind, but a small part of him urged him to keep fighting and pushing forward. He felt a small amount of comfort as he found some success at remaining sane.

"Nobody should go through this pain" He thought frenziedly. "I will help everyone that I love to rid themselves of these negative feelings" He thought with conviction and determination.

Just at that moment, as if the heavens smiled at him, the sky turned pitch black with dark clouds as lightning raged across the city. The heavens answered his call as they granted him an ability that would allow him to help people and himself.

He was bestowed upon with the ability of the giver.
