287 AC, Gates of Volantis…
The reign of R'hllor began like all the other gods. She was a small child when she gained her powers by praying to the God everyone worshipped. She was given powers beyond a normal human, controlling fire. However, the price of this power was enormous as she was condemned to the body of a child that never aged.
She was a peaceful girl that saw the good in everyone but people begin to worship her because of her powers. They offered her small sacrifices like food and small wooden figures in return of protection. And R'hllor realized that these sacrifices were giving her more so she wanted them to burn their dead in her name.
It was all going good for a while as her powers grew with each burning of the dead but it went down with a particular burning and offering of a soul. A man that touched a strange black stone was burned in her name and her soul was offered to the R'hllor.
When R'hllor ate the soul ball with the blackness in it, she was shocked as her powers grew sharply so she questioned those who brought her that soul and learned the truth of the matter.
She should have punished those who burned someone alive in her name but the temptation of that delicious soul and the rise of her power was too much so she ordered her followers to burn heathens in her name and offer their souls to her.
Thus, began her reign of terror and her reign strengthened with the destruction of Valyria as she spread the word it was because of her punishment for those who spread blasphemy.
R'hllor's thirst for the likes of that black soul grew with each human burnt alive in her name. However, she couldn't find any soul like that one no matter how many she ate. In the end, she summoned those who burnt the first human and questioned them the life of the soul they first burnt.
When she learnt that the man in possession of a strange soul that was now stored in the temple's vault, she immediately summoned her high priest and ordered him to bring her the black stone they found on the first human that was burnt in her name.
As soon as she touched the black stone that was offered to her, her mind cracked a little without her knowing as she was feeling excited because of the rise of her powers.
Through the black stone, she gave powers to her most devout followers to punish those who advocated heresy. Thus, her reign was solidified and the number of her worshippers were increased.
And today, for the first time, she was showing her black stone to someone who does not worship her.
…
"Gerold, you must kill her!! This bitch is going to kill us all!" shouted Trios while looking at Gerold.
Gerold didn't get what was happening but he was sure that black stone was the most precious thing of R'hllor. However, he couldn't grant Trios's wish as he did not know how to do it.
"I can't kill her, you know it. Though I can banish her from this realm." Gerold caressed his non-existent beard and said.
"Banish? Who is going to do that, you? Don't make me laugh!!" R'hllor bellowed out at Gerold's remark, "Pray to tell me, how are you planning to do that? You don't have anything I would want from you."
Gerold went into deep thought and decided to lie through his teeth, "Well, you look like someone who values those little black stones. Guess what, I also have one of those though it is not with me."
"What? That is impossible!! Only I have this stone!" yelled R'hllor with a shocked face.
Gerold snorted and said, "It is up to you to decide whether to believe it or not. I hid it somewhere safe so you won't find it even if you want."
"If it is Lys then you can say goodbye to your black stone. My followers should be besieging your little city by now. AHAHAHA!!!" R'hllor laughed while holding her big belly.
Gerold knitted his brows and asked, "What do you mean?"
"Did you think, I was going to do nothing when you come and invade my lands, my temple?! My followers in Pentos and Myr were preparing men to invade your little city and you created a great opportunity for me when you set sail from Lys with most of your men. Even if you kill all my followers, the same thing will happen to your god!"
"That's impossible! If something like that happened then the news of it would have reached me by now." Gerold talked with a thoughtful expression.
"A big surprise to you then, I am not stupid enough to not stop your messengers. My men set a blockade to the whole sea and land so no bird or men can pass through." R'hllor smirked and said.
In return, Gerold too smirked and said, "A big surprise to you too then, I am not stupid enough to hide it in the most likely place. Now, are you going to play with me or should I just try to kill every one of your slaves and continue to use the stone just like you?"
R'hllor gritted her teeth as the temptation of the black stone was too much. However, her thirst for this new black stone was heavier than his logic, "Okay, you win! Let me think of a game suitable for you…"
R'hllor needed a game easy for herself and hard for the man in front of her. And she had the right game in her mind. R'hllor looked at the black stone in her hands and wondered whether the information he found from her followers in Yi Ti was true or not. According to the information, each black stone was affecting that person differently and that was the reason she wanted the stone in Gerold's hands.
"I have decided. If you can hold this stone for just one minute then you will win but if you pass out before that time then I shall win!" R'hllor stood up and went down the stairs and stood before Gerold.
Gerold did not know the use of the black stone so he was curious about it. However, Trios was wary of the game R'hllor proposed as he was one of the gods who witnessed the terror it brought upon the world.
"Gerold, don't play the game. We can just kill every one of her followers!" said Trios.
Gerold shook his head and said, "I already gave my word, we shall play the game."
R'hllor extended her hand which was holding the stone and smirked towards Gerold. As a god, her will was stronger than a mortal so she was sure to win this little game.
As soon as Gerold took the stone to his hands, her eyes turned black and his body went stiff.
