The Doctor came and sat on the chair next to the couch and started to explain the procedure.
"Through hypnosis I will gradually make you relaxed and still the conscious mind. So that the sub conscious mind can be accessed."
"This first stage of hypnosis is called induction. It encourages the patient, in this case you, to go into a light trance. It is basically a relaxation technique and it works on both the mind and the body."
"Thereafter, we will proceed towards the relaxation of all your muscles. This physical relaxation technique helps the patient, that is you, to get rid of the stress and tension and anxiety gets released."
"Once this is achieved, I will get you to slowly control your breath. This control of breath will encourage further relaxation and will distracts the conscious mind."
"This stage is characterized by fluttering eye movements."
"Then we will proceed to the deeper trance stage. This is the second stage. This stage will prepare your unconscious mind to be more receptive to suggestions. The technique a continuation of the first stage method with more emphasis on deepening body relaxation. Sometimes visualisation techniques are adopted."
"This level is characterized by side to side eye movements."
"Thereafter I need to ensure that you have entered a 'deep' state of altered consciousness. Once I am confirmed about this then I move on to the 'hypnotic suggestion' phase."
"This stage is the deepest 'trance state' characterized by rolling upwards of the eyes."
"The suggestions that you will receive will be on an unconscious level and you may not have any memory of hearing them."
"Let me clarify that that the deeper the trance state, the better the results. Because of this process it is only you who can assess the depth of the trance state."
"We, psychiatrists, face the additional problem of the memory being impaired in the hypnotic process and this creates difficulties in assessing levels of trance.
"The ending of the session involves a gradual return to full consciousness which can be done by a number of methods like counting backwards from 10, with you becoming fully aware and conscious on the count of number 1 with a gradual 'lightening' of the mental state along the way."
"Now, I have explained everything. We will commence our session. Before that if you want to visit the washroom or drink water, you may go quickly. Thereafter you will not be able to get up for 2-3 hours."
Tania got up had a glass of water, went to the washroom and thereafter, took her position on the couch.
The doctor proceeded to put her into the first stage of trance by suggestions that she was relaxing her body and mind. He started the relaxation slowly, from her toes to her heels and ankles then the lower limbs then the torso, the upper limbs, the neck and the head as well as the various organs of the body.
He kept checking the movement of her eyes. As soon as there was fluttering of the eyes, he realized that the first stage had been completed.
He then continued the same relaxation technique with more emphasis on the organs and the mind and brain, and realized that Tania had entered the deepest trance state when he observed that her eyes were moving side to side.
Within a few minutes, as the doctor kept speaking, Tania entered the deepest trance state characterized by rolling upwards of her eyes. This was when he could do the suggestions.
"What is your name?" he asked.
"Tania Gagarin Sharma," she replied.
"How old are you?" the doctor asked.
"24 years old," she answered.
"Are you working or studying?"
"Studying."
"Where are you studying?"
"At the University."
"What is your subject of study?"
"Ancient Indian History."
"Anything specific of that era?"
"Indus Valley Civilization."
"Do you have any problems with any teacher or professor or colleague?"
"No, never."
"Anyone tried to hurt you in your university?"
"No, Never."
"So, now let us move to your college time. The three four years of your college days."
"How old were you when you entered college and when you left college?"
"17 years and 19 years of age."
"Did anyone hurt you or trouble you in college?"
"No, not at all."
"Did you have any problems at home?"
"No, no problems at home."
"Did your father and mother love you?"
"They loved me and pampered me."
"So, now will proceed to your school time. The entire primary, middle and secondary school days."
"Do you recall any incident that might have hurt you in school."
"No, none. I was a liked student by my teachers and friends."
"Let us now check about when you were 5 years of age."
"Any problem at home?"
"No. none," responded Tania in a baby like voice.
"OK, Great, now we will check the time when you were a toddler about 2 years old."
"Any problem, anyone was angry with you or beat you?"
"No, no no. I want my mummy, replied Tania again in that Baby voice."
"OK, nothing there so let us go to the time you were in your mom's tummy waiting to be born. Do you remember anything?"
Tania was very quiet. She did not reply. The Doctor repeated the question after rephrasing it.
"You were in your mummy's tummy and something scared you. What was it?"
"Mummy was at home. Mummy's brother came, his name was Igor. He shouted at Mummy about her marrying outside and that she was going to give birth to a hybrid, I knew he meant me. I could not see him but from my mother's feelings, I realized she disliked what he was saying."
"He did not like my father and he hated all three of us. He said he would teach us a lesson."
Tania's Dada ji was listening to all this with a shocked expression on his face. The Doctor gestured to him not to speak.
"Did your mother tell your father about your uncle's visit?"
"No, Mom did not want to tell my Dad anything. She thought it would hurt him."
"She cut off from her family after I was born."
"Let us go back a bit more," the Doctor said.
"Where are you now? Still in your mummy's tummy?"
"I am studying in a Medical College in Rajasthan." Tania replied with an Indian accent.
"What???"
"What is your name and how old are you?"
"My name is Saroj and I am 25 years old and about to become a doctor."
"Do you fear anyone?"
"Yes, one of my professors. He, Mihr Mishra, is not a nice man."
"Has he misbehaved with you?"
"No, he is not young about 50 plus. But he dislikes me because I seem to be more intelligent and get better marks than his daughter who is called Komal Mishra."
"Does he remind you of someone?"
"Yes, of my mother's brother of this life. His eyes are the same. Mean, cunning, calculating."
"Now Tania, I want you to come back to the present where you have come to the clinic for treatment."
"I will count backwards from 10. When I reach 1 you will be wide awake. ok."
Soon Tania woke up.
