Chapter 1 - The beginning

In the cold asphalt, twenty seven year old Kyle Carson could be seen breathing his last. Kyle couldn't understand what had happened as he felt his body slowly getting colder. He could no longer feel anything as nothing remained but his thoughts.

All that was there was darkness never-ending darkness. Kyle's thoughts were in a state of chaos, as he couldn't comprehend what was happening to him. He couldn't feel anything and he was sure that he died, but why did his thoughts remain.

'What's going to happen to me? Is there really no heaven or hell? Is it only this darkness, nothing more? Now that I think about it, maybe this is hell...'

While Kyle's thoughts were getting messier and messier he suddenly remembered his girlfriend for some reason. The two of them had a very bad breakup beforehand, but for some reason Kyle couldn't remember what they were fighting about. As his thoughts started to flow into that direction Kyle saw a light in the distance.

There was actual light within this dark grounds. Now that he thought about how could he see anything at all? Kyle wanted to approach the light but had no idea how he should do it. He no longer had a body and was only left with his own thoughts. As Kyle started to think of how to get to the light, he suddenly could no longer breathe as he felt like he was drowning.

Now he was truly confused, didn't he have nothing left except his thoughts, so how could he feel breathless? Was he going to die again, was it even possible to die after dying once? While Kyle was getting even more confused the light from the distance seem to be getting closer and closer to him, until finally it was right in front of Kyle.

The light blinded Kyle, and he was then able to open his eyes. The moment he opened his eyes he felt a heavy pressure escape him as he gasped for air. Kyle could once more feel his hands, legs, and the beating of his heart. After the initial shock, Kyle started to look around his surroundings in a dazed state. He quickly noticed that he was in his room.

"Did I just have a nightmare?" Kyle mumbled to himself. Knowing that he was still alive and well, Kyle couldn't help but sigh in relief. He started moving his hands, opening and closing them.

'Still that was a really realistic nightmare... Actually how did I die in that nightmare again? I can't really remember what happened. Hmm... Well I guess that's how it goes with dreams. Too bad if I was able to remember the contents of the dream, I could have written a pretty good story.'

While Kyle was trying to calm himself with jokes, he got out of bed and headed to the kitchen. Kyle was living alone in a one bedroom apartment. His girlfriend used to come to his apartment often, that was six months ago, unfortunately they broke up leaving him all alone in his apartment.

Well Kyle was used to being alone, since he was an orphan. Since the beginning he really was alone. He had worked hard and was able to finish college which led him to his current job as an investigative journalist.

...

Kyle got himself a bottle of water to calm his nerves. He looked at the time and saw that it was already five in the morning. He needed to get ready for work. Kyle headed to his bathroom so that he could take a shower.

After a quick shower, Kyle got dressed up and started cooking his meal. He wasn't really a good cook, but at least he knew how to cook an egg and some bacon, which he matched up with rice. Once he was done with his meal he went to brush his teeth. When he got back to his bathroom to brush his teeth, he finally noticed something was off.

Kyle saw Sarah's towel as well as her toothbrush still in his bathroom.

'Didn't she take all of these stuff already, or am I having a memory lapse? Whatever, I'll just send them to her later. I know she won't want to see me, but hey at least I'm trying...' Kyle shook his head as he proceeded to brush his teeth.

After he was done brushing his teeth, Kyle was about to head out, but then he remembered he didn't have his cellphone on him.

He went back into his room and found his cellphone. He checked if he got any new messages, that's when Kyle noticed something weird. He saw that the date shown in his cellphone was 11/05/2018. This shocked Kyle at first, since he knew that today was suppose to be 01/05/2019.
