As I thought more and more about what Scarlett had said, the more I wanted to go to the carnival. If we had a little sister, and we went to the carnival, we might be able to find her. I finished packing my bag and headed into Scarlett's room. "Do you wanna come?" I ask. She looks up from the book she's reading and smiles. "I thought you'd never ask." She replies as she practically throws her book across the room. But then she paused and thought about something. "Do you think we'll make it on our own?" She asks with fear in her eyes. "Scarlett, I'm 17. You're 19. I think we'll be just fine." I say with a slight giggle in my voice. After we had both packed our bags, we started walking to the front door. "Where do you two brats think you're going with those backpacks?" Shoot. I forgot about mom. "Nothing." I say as I slowly turn around. Scarlett does the same. "Tell me the truth!" Mom yells. And with that, she grabs me by the hair and holds me still. "Scarlett. Tell me where you two were going and I won't harm your sister. But lie to me one more time and your sister will know real pain." Mom said with anger in her voice. Scarlett froze. She was never that good at lying, so I was prepared to get a beating. her hands were curled tightly around my head and with every passing second, she tightened them even more. "We were." Scarlett hesitates. "I was taking her to a friends house. She had two backpacks and I offered to carry one." I was impressed. But the real question was what would mom think? "Ok. But if I catch either one of you lying to me one more time." She didn't finish her sentence. And with that, we were on our journey.
