Her hands were cold. That's all Biv could think about. She remembers how at any point in time where she was upset. When she was lost, she would hold her sister's hand. It wouldn't be cold. It would be warm.
Tears fell down Biv's face she couldn't think about anything. She didn't want to believe her sister just died. That the part of her died. Biv's cries became sobs. She couldn't speak she couldn't move. Her knees buckled under her. She let her go. She let her sister go, but it was for her Biv reminded herself.
Four years. Those long years. Evva sat in this very hospital bed, waiting. No one was helping her as much as they could. This irritated her. She didn't know what to feel, but at that very moment, it felt to her she was experiencing it all. Every drop of blood in her veins boiled. Tears fell down her face, only to cool her off.
Biv could taste as some of her tears fell into her mouth. She was left alone. She didn't have anyone that would give her the time of the day like her sister. Biv's body slumped to the floor. She could see the teardrops on the tiles.
Biv looked towards the box that sat on the chair, the one her sister spoke of. She stood up slowly in her state, made her way toward the box. She noticed a note taped to the box that had her name on it.
She carefully took the note off the box. She held it in her hand. She noticed the familiar handwriting and all she wanted to do was shake her sister awake to tell her she was looking through her stuff. Just to make her annoyed.
"Dear Biv,
Please don't be sad. I needed this. I'm sorry I had to break our promised but I knew it was only a matter of time before I left you. I love you so much. You were the only one by my side through this all. I don't want you to follow me yet, which is why I made that promise. I've been fighting for four years, I couldn't fight anymore. Just know I love you and will always protect you even if you do not know. You have been the one I've been protecting this whole time, but now it's time for you to take a step out. Figure out who you are even if I'm not there. Remember anything you do. I am always proud of you and remember if you ever get a boyfriend have him treat you right. Which brings me to this, just to make you laugh in a way... if you get married and have a child. Or maybe children you could have twins. Who knows we are twins so it might go to you. Name one after me. I'm joking you do not have to. I love you forever and always. From birth until whenever I see you again. Also, remember this box here has been added letters to it ever hour basically for you for when I am not there. Protect yourself. Protect your heart and remember I am always here for you. Not physically but always here.
Love your twin,
Evva"
Tears slip from Biv's eyes but she felt like she could or should be crying now. Biv turned her head to her sister who laid still in the hospital bed. Not breathing or saying a word.
"I love you" Biv whispered kissing Evva's forehead. Biv grabbed her backpack from the corner of the room and headed to the receptionist.
"Excuse me, please send my sister Evva River's body to this place on the card," Biv said and the nurse nodded.
Biv walked out of the hospital with tears running down her face. She came to her car as her sobs got worse. She wishes she could feel anything but that was the only thing holding herself from not recking the car she sat in.
"Fight for happiness" she repeated something her sister told her. Evva... Biv thought in her head.
