A week past and I was able to convince my mother to let me go over to Omari's place for the night. Of course, she pried everything that happened between Omari and me out of me, much to my chagrin.
I hear my phone buzz and pick it up to see who texted me. It was Omari. My heart jumped out of my chest. I opened the message to see what he said.
I just got to your train stop! I hope I don't get lost getting to your house…
Crap, he was already at the train station. Which means it won't be long before he meets my mother...
I got up out of bed and hurried to gather my overnight bag and electronics. I dashed down the stairs and into the living room where my mother was drinking a cup of tea.
"Okaa-san, he's almost here. You promise to say nothing super embarrassing?" I winced, knowing she was bound to say something embarrassing to him before I leave for my overnight trip to his university.
The doorbell rings and I freeze.
"Yes, coming!" my mother shouts and that brings me back to reality. I hear the door opening and I run out to the front.
"Omari-kun, I've heard quite a bit about you. It's nice to meet you." my mother greeted him with a sly smile. I sighed and grabbed my bag.
"It's very nice to meet you too, Mrs. Ali. I hope you don't mind me taking away your daughter for a night." Omari replied back politely. My mother looked back at me with a sneaky smile.
"Oh, not a problem. Just don't return her pregnant. I'm not ready to be an Obaa-san just yet." my mother giggled, pushing me out of the door.
"Okaa-sannn…" I groaned while Omari chuckled quietly.
"I'll see you tomorrow Kimiko. Have fun, but not too much fun." my mother said pushing us out of the doorway.
"Let's go. We got a long way back to my campus." Omari said taking my bag in one hand and my hand in the other and we headed off to the train station.
After a couple of train trips, we finally arrived at his campus. Everything looked huge to me.
"Welcome to Meiji University, your possible home next year," Omari exclaimed proudly. I laughed, covering my eyes from the sun.
He walks me through the whole campus, giving me a tour of his favorite places for various things.
"And this is the snack shop I practically live in. It's got everything from onigiri to ramen. Whatever you may need, they got it." Omari said pointing to a small shop on the corner.
I looked over at the shop, seeing all sorts of people coming in and out of it. A couple of girls came out with some sandwiches that looked delicious. They spotted Omari and started giggling amongst themselves before walking to a picnic table a few feet away.
"Do you want to grab something from there real quick before we continue the tour?" Omari asked stepping in front of my view of the giggling girls. I snapped out of my focus and looked at him.
"Yeah, sure. I do feel a bit hungry after all this walking." I said, taking his hand. I looked over at the table of girls and gave them a smug look as Omari and I walked toward the snack shop.
They gasped and started whispering to each other when Omari opened the door for me. It was petty but I needed them to know Omari was mine now.
"Natsuki-san! Two chicken katsu onigiri sandwiches and two green teas please." Omari ordered before he led me to a table in the corner.
"Onigiri sandwiches? What is that?" I asked giggling at how absurd it sounded. Omari pulls out a menu from the side of the table.
"It's like regular onigiri but made to be a sandwich. So the rice is the bread and then chicken katsu in between. The nori holds it together," Omari explained right before our order arrived.
"Thanks Natsuki-san!" exclaimed Omari and then we said our thanks for the meal.
"Wow, this is amazing!" I said between chews. Omari chuckled and picked off a piece of rice from my face. How embarrassing….
"These are my favorite to buy. Cheap but filling. Great for a college student budget," he chuckled before taking a swig of the green tea.
The college student budget. I remember my mother telling me about the kind of diet she had through college. It was these microwave mac n cheese cups, cup noodles, and cheese sandwiches when she couldn't find somebody to sneak her into the dining hall.
That's how she met my father. She was sneaking into the dining hall with a friend when my father was leaving. She caught his eye and was relentless in his pursuit. My mother, however, was so focused on her books that it took a year before she realized he was pursuing her.
The rest is history, they're still together after 22 years and three kids. Though that third child doesn't call home or come home very often. My older brother was always busy with his various "jobs", if you could even call them that, so I don't have much of a relationship with him.
Omari and I finished our little meal and got back to the tour of the school.
"And over here are some of the apartments where a good portion of the students live. Which brings us to…."Omari announced walking ahead of me to a large apartment complex.
"This is my apartment complex and our final stop of my tour. Thank you for coming along for the ride and please be sure to tip your guide with a kiss," Omari exclaimed. He stepped in front of me and towered over me waiting.
I glanced around us and gave him a kiss on the cheek. I still was not comfortable enough to initiate a kiss on the lips myself.
Apparently, the kiss on the cheek was not sufficient enough for Omari. He put his hands onto my cheeks and leaned down to kiss my lips. He pulled away and kissed my forehead.
"How about we go get comfortable up in my room?"
