"Ow!" screamed Dan.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't see you. It was an accident. I'm really sorry," said Sarah. That was when Dan saw her profile so closely for the first time. Her ombre hair was tied in a fishtail braid. Her aqua eyes had a strong look of apology in them. Her nose and ears had become totally red and she was sweating. She was as fit as an athlete. Sarah applied water on the injured part of Dan's face. When Dan convinced her that it was okay and she did not need to do anything more, Sarah finally left him and went back to her seat. However she still looked at him and few times to make sure he was really all right.
The next day it was time for their seat change. The desks were numbered and there was a box in which chits which had the numbers written on them were kept. Dan got number 23 and sat on his seat which was in the last row just beside the one next to the window. Suddenly he saw Sarah approaching him with her bag. He thought she might be coming to ask about his injury but he was in for a surprise. She sat on seat number 24 just next to him. After adjusting herself and her things she turned around to face Dan with a smile.
"So... we are desk mates now!", she exclaimed."I think this is the first time I am sitting with you."
"Yeah, that's right," replied Dan."Looking forward to sitting with you," he continued, his face still red with the impact of the sudden shock. What would it be like to sit with the girl who was nicknamed 'Hot headed Red Girl', the class topper, the most popular girl among the boys and most of all the girl who caught his attention the most?- Dan kept on wondering about all this.
