"How is my son doing, secretary Shen?" A man sitting in a comfy office chair that can roll and spin, as all should, facing away from the desk toward the window so the man in the suit he was taking to couldn't see him.
"His injuries are fine, and his nerves have been confirmed to be able to be reconnected with the finest surgical cultivator techniques, allowing him to use his limbs again." The secretary reported on one knee, as a proper vassal should, according to his boss, who liked to act like a big boss.
"What of his cultivation, can it be recovered?" The gruff voice was deeply concerned, as cultivation having a high cultivation was rather important for status. If he remained crippled and weak, he would no longer be able to inherit the company.
"Unfortunately sir, the channels are too heavily damaged. The slightest careless touch could turn them into dust, and his core is only an empty shell. This is not like being sealed or having a damaged dantian or core. He has been completely drained of his cultivation. We can't just get it back. Fortunately his meridians aren't damaged, so he can still reciprocate from scratch." He explained regretfully.
"What of his brain, is he still sane? Is there a parasite or something in there? Why did he act like that?" He recalled the strange behavior that tarnished the reputation of the entire Wen group in a shameful confession of his heir.
"Our experts discovered the problem to be in his soul. It appears to be shackled by some foreign soul energy." He explained carefully.
"What does that mean." He did not really understand such matters.
"It means his soul is held hostage to do someone's bidding. Simply put, he's in a soul contract sir. He's a contract beast!" While still on his knee, he said something shocking.
"What?! That's impossible! There's no such thing! That's a technique only humans can use on stupid beasts! Are you telling me my son is no different than a beast?!" He said in apparent rage as arms waved from the chair. His expression still couldn't be seen as the chair still faces the window.
"But it's the truth sir. His soul is shackled like any other contract beast." Reported the secretary with an unchanging voice.
"What of Xhufeng? Any clues on the culprit?" Based on Zhuhai's rant, they determined that the one he offended should've been a student he tried to take advantage of. So he sent his brother to investigate in the school.
"We are inspecting and questioning students who were rumored to have been targeted or caught by Master Zhuhai, but the sensitivity of the manner makes it difficult to investigate, and there are just too many, so it may take awhile."
"Damn fool! I knew I shouldn't have let him be a teacher at some university just so he could mess with some college girls! Maybe he was better off like this, I would've bet he would have moved on to high schoolers in a while!" The only change in the room were two arms waving in anger from behind the turned chair as the boss ranted and cursed his foolish son.
"Let my brother in." He finally said after grumbling for awhile.
"Yes sir." And the secretary finally got up, stretched his legs, as he had been in that situation for quite a long time. Then left.
After some time passed, an eagle nosed, tall, thin man walked in with his arms behind his back.
At the same time, the chair finally swiveled around, revealing a stout, tough looking man. He had defined features showing he was rather gallant in his youth, but the ring of meat on his waist suggested he hadn't worked out in awhile.
Standing together, they did not look much like brothers, with only their faces having slight resemblances here and there.
They both stared at each other before spreading their arms for a tight embrace.
"Big bro!" Said Wen Zhufeng.
"Little bro!" Said the big boss, Wen Zhulong, Wen Zhuhai's father
They did a little jig before bumping fists as their secret handshake, before they laughed and hugged again.
These brothers were only a few years apart, and were close since youth. Even now, they got along very well.
"Is Xiao Hai doing okay?" He asked in concern, he dotes on his nephew quite a bit, and personally agreed to aid the investigation.
"He'll be alright, but his cultivation is as good as gone. He might have to cultivate from scratch again. But apparently he's been put into a soul contract!" He confided in his close brother.
"What?! Is that even possible? Can they do something about it?" He asked in worry.
"Who knows. The evidence is in Zhuhai. I believe our experts are still working on it. What about you Zhufeng, any news from the university?" He then asked about the progress of his brother's personal investigation.
"I took over the classes that Zhuhai had, and I didn't want to ask directly about any involvement in case they sue us, so I checked the belongings of some of the students rumored to have been targeted by him. Some had knives and I spoke a little to them, but none of their knives matched the blade that stabbed Zhuhai." He summarized his first day of investigation quickly.
"Anything else?" He inquired.
"Yes." He got more serious.
"Oh?" He narrowed his eyes.
"There was a cat." Wen Zhufeng spoke, dead serious.
"...and?"
"And it was really cute!" His eyes brightened as his face, tough before students, was finally allowed to soften.
"Do you have picture?!" Asked Wen Zhulong excitedly.
Don't think they weren't serious about the incident. Joking like this was one of the ways they coped with the crisis of their stained company and Wen Zhuhai's tragedy.
Then Secretary Shen abruptly came in, out of breath.
"Master Zhuhai! He was in pain! The contract on his soul activated! He was writing in pain and his fingers were bending the wrong way!" He said, panicked.
"What?! What happened?" Both their faces darkened as Wen Zhulong asked angrily.
"It didn't last long! But he gave a message!"
"Don't waste time! Tell us!"
"He said, "Please stop investigating! Or he'll kill me!""
Both their faces were pale.
"We can't let this go."
"It seems we have to investigate more carefully..."
